Competitions of skill were of little real interest to Ashe, so she had simply spent the time before the sendoff taking in the sights and sounds. She probably looked a little out of place in a tavern, perched all by herself on a stool with a mug of something she barely touched, but she was there. Staring and people watching counted as socializing, didn't it?
...Though, if you think that's weird, she does have an empty seat next to her.
Nogard
After arriving on the unusually rocky isle, Ashe set about learning the land as best she could. Moving through the city streets, striding with poise and purpose, she seemed at ease among the throngs of people. She stopped only when she found what she was looking for, a small food stall selling some sort of pies. She paused when she was handed two and looked around for someone to share the bounty with.
"Excuse me," she said to the nearest Riftwalker she recognized from the ship, you, and held up the food in it's paper container. "Would you like the second one?"

"Have you ever seen a creature such as this?" Ashe asked the people around her. She stood in near-awe at the edge of the water, gaze fixed firmly on the strange animals. She'd ridden before, but never a creature like this, and it was fascinating. So very different from chocobos.
"Hopefully they aren't too temperamental."
Oh, she has no idea.
