... Shigaraki. You were... facing off with Shigaraki?

[Yes, he was maybe expecting it to be something like the battle with The League. He was hoping it wasn't something like that but he's also not entirely surprised.

But Katsuki says-]

You weren't alone though, were you...?

No. I wasn't alone. We split the villains up. And we also all split up into teams.

[How much does he reveal is the question? He isn't sure.]

It's going to be tough for everyone. An all out war. I don't think anyone is walking away uninjured, Izuku. That's just how war goes.

[He plays with Izuku's hand.]

I didn't want to scare you or worry you but I guess I did that anyway but not saying anything. The thing is... telling you all of this? It won't matter when we go back. I didn't remember anything here when I went back.

[And that's honestly the thing he's most afraid to say.]

...I didn't want you to think that everything we're doing here is a waste of time or something. Even if I never remember back home... I want to have this time with you.

[There is a lot to unpack here the moment Katsuki says all of it. Izuku feels his heart sink into his stomach in more ways than one. The war- he knew that was coming and he could feel it in his very nerves and blood that it was going to be something they both have to deal with. Their whole class. Their teachers. Their families. The entire city. And more. It's part of the guilt that Izuku carries in this world every single day. That he's not there to try and finish it once and for all.

But Katsuki includes a very big piece of information that makes him speechless for a second. He looks down at their entwined hands. And he wonders if he should consider himself selfish for thinking about himself and how he feels about Katsuki.]

I ... I see. [He's not going to let himself cry today.] That's why you came back in such bad shape, isn't it? Your fight with Shigaraki...

[He clenches his teeth.]

And you didn't remember... us. I ... I guess that's something I should have expected too.

[Izuku gently shakes his head.]

I hope you know that the way I feel about you, Kacchan... It's the same at home as it is here. So... So maybe...someday you'll notice again.

[callmekacchan]

Yeah. Aizawa-sensei and the loudmouth from Class B are blocking him from using his quirk. But he's still... kicking my ass.

[He's ashamed of it. He's also sincerely worried that he's not making it off that battlefield. And that's not something he's ready to admit. Ready to face.

His eyes tick up from their hands to search Izuku's face.]

I hope I'm smart enough to get my shit together. I selfishly want you to wait for me to catch up. But now that I've figured out what a catch you are... there's no way others don't see it too. If I don't get it together, someone is gonna snatch you up for sure.

[fullgauntlet]

[He can't help how his cheeks bloom with a small blush. Katsuki calling him a catch... He would have never thought that about himself before.]

Just... focus on winning the fight first.

[Izuku looks up at Katsuki too, the clear worry in his green eyes. He doesn't know what's going to happen with this fight and from the sounds of it, Katsuki doesn't know either. But Katsuki has to survive. He has to.]

And if I know myself I know my feelings for you will always be there. Even if you take forever to catch up to yours.

[Izuku is sure that even if he does end up confessing to Katsuki at the end of high school and still gets rejected- his feelings will still feel the same.]

I'll win.

[He can't be sure but he'll still promise. He'll try to sound sure. He'll try to sound like he believes it fully.]

We'll drop back exactly where we left off. So... if you're worried about how long we're here, don't. The battle won't go on without us.

[He's relaxing as they talk this out. As he becomes assured that even if they forget it, they can keep building something here.]

...Inumaki said he had dreams about this place when he went back. So... maybe... even if I don't remember this place, maybe I'll dream about you.

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku gives a nod. He understands that Katsuki can't promise him anything because Izuku would do the same thing. He did do the same thing- when he said he would try and stop being so reckless and stop doing things alone. He said he would try- but he can't promise... Being a hero... You have to be careful with promises.]

I guess that's a relief in a sense... That whenever we go back I'll be able to be there.

[Because he wants to help Katsuki now. Help everyone. He has to do it.

Then Izuku lets go of Katsuki hand only so he can scoot in and wrap his arms around Katsuki and hug him tightly.]

T-Then let's make sure we make a lot of memories together so we can dream about it when we get back...

[callmekacchan]

[He wraps his arms around Izuku in turn. Holding him tight. It's a relief. That's what he wants. For them to be able to keep being together here. Whatever happens when they get home... he just wants to be able to live happily in the moment here and now.]

Not just any memories. Good ones. I'll make lots of good memories with you to dream about later.

[fullgauntlet]

[He tried to tell himself that he wouldn't cry today. But it's a bit overwhelming. To know that Katsuki came back so badly injured because of Shigaraki to hearing that they won't remember their time together besides faded dreams... It's a lot.

He shuts his eyes and holds onto Katsuki tightly. Desperately. And he nods.]

It's a promise.

[Izuku crying is nothing new. Katsuki rubs his back and lets him cry into his shoulder. It's a promise. Good memories.

Katsuki hopes when he goes back he lives to dream about them.]
