[Just staying here, enjoying the peace and solitude this little sanctuary has afforded them. And so his arm around her will tighten, his head resting against hers as his eyes slowly close and his breathing relaxes. They will be able to enjoy this for some time before the very bird Benedikta had been hoping to see appears on the railing. They are able to marvel and admire it for a few moments before it suddenly lets out a loud screech, flaps its wings, and then just takes off with the rings they had plan to throw into the ocean. They're stunned into silence before laughing at the absurdity of it all. Of course the bird that's the supposed symbol of love would be loud for them, but they can still take it as a good sign for them.
But really, what a whirlwind of the past two days have been. First the fake ceremony and now an exchange of vows of sorts. Yes, he may have been proposing to her like mad for the past few weeks ever since what happened with Garuda, but it's not as if he was really expecting anything like this. Even if she had accepted it weeks ago, he hadn't imagined anything would be different in terms of progress.
She would have the ring, their relationship solidified with no more room for doubts, and they could continue to slowly grow until the day of union, however or whenever that would have been. Yet he is certain, whatever thoughts or imaginations he would have then would be nothing compared to what they will be now after they actually experienced all of this. And in some ways, it's terrifying.
Terrifying how deep and heavy these emotions are now between them. Terrifying how much he wants this and desperately doesn't want to lose it, especially when it was snuffed out once before. It had been painful when they were still just young and beginning in their love, how much worse would it be if he were to lose her again now? Strongminded and determined as he is, he's not immune to such fears. The only small blessing as he doesn't let it stop him if it can be helped. If anything, he just lets it drive him to do whatever he can to ensure those fears do not come to pass, or, if they do, can be mitigated and dealt with. And for them...their they have a number of things that could go wrong.
But as he holds her to him, feels her warmth, sees her smiles and the love reflected in her eyes, that resolve only strengthens. And whenever they do leave, continuing to spend time together with that deepened love and understanding, all he'll feel is that warmth, that joy that he will be sure to cherish and protect.
This is their second life, their second chance. In his own silent vow, he promises that he will do whatever he can to protect it. Because this is how he wishes—how he chooses to live.
