A - Cosmo Conservatory
[Nanaki’s been hard at work making the Conservatory a peaceful place, and it’s coming along quite nicely! While it’s still got a lot of open space, there’s clearly more life here than before, and those who visit or volunteer may see signs of those elusive creatures who now call the sanctuary home. Nanaki is there often, and will usually be there to help greet those who appear.]

Welcome to Cosmo Conservatory. Feel free to look around, but please be mindful of the creatures living here. If you’d like a guided tour, I’d be happy to offer one.

[He speaks with a sense of pride at his work, and despite his attempt to look mature his chest puffed and tail wags behind him. He’s obviously proud of the Conservatory! He’s happy to offer a tour, or if someone would rather venture in on their own they’re given a small map of the area and given space to explore. Though visitors are instructed to not disturb the wildlife living there, especially the Golden Bunny Spirits.]

[Of course, those who come to volunteer will get to see Nanaki’s more eager side. He’ll approach with a spring in his step, tail held high like an excitable cat.]

Oh, hey! Are you here to volunteer today? Great! The animals are all doing alright, but they could always do with some more feeding. Oh, and I think I found a new area that would work well for a new shelter area!

B - Doing it the Bard Way
[Nanaki’s not exactly a musica connoisseur himself, but he’s able to appreciate art when he sees (or hears) it. As such, when the strange bard begins singing and playing his music, Nanaki’s honestly just okay to listen and jam to the music. The bard’s actually pretty good! So into the music, Nanaki almost misses the question about adding lyrics for the bard’s newest song. Nanaki freezes, his good eye widening as his ears perk up in surprise.]

H-Huh? Oh, uh, I’m not sure… I’ve never written a song before…

[He seems a little bashful, ears flocking to the side as he glances away. Eventually, he looks up at the person closest to him.]

What about you? Do you have anything that could help?

C - Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls
[Sitting under a waterfall… was that it? Even if the water was cold, it didn’t seem TOO hard. Still, Nanaki is eying it a little warily. He has no issues with nakedness, what with him always being naked. But all that water in his fur… But he huffs.]

It shouldn’t be too hard to us. I think we can do it! We only have to stay under it a little while, right..?

D - Whale Watchers
[Why were all the whales attacking?? Nanaki isn’t sure why, but he’s happy to investigate. It’s not a pretty sight… his ears lower as he sniffs at some of the fish that have beached themselves, or even just observing some of the gulls and other animals nearby]

Something’s not right… the fish and other animals don’t smell right.

[The oddities in the wildlife prompt Nanaki to investigate further, looking into what’s been causing the whales such discomfort. Fortunately, as he continues investigating, he eventually manages to come across one of the whales, though it sounds like its in distress. Rather than try to attack it, Nanaki tries to call out to it.]

Hey, it’s okay! Calm down, we’re trying to help! We want to know what’s wrong!!

[Can he even speak whale? Can the whales even understand Nanaki, or vice versa? Only one way to find out!]

Doing it the Bard Way

[Pff. Agatha has been here sort of lost in how good the Bard is at this when Nanaki speaks up to her. She visibly flusters then.]

Uh.

[Put on the spot her mind leaps back to all the musicals Sophie made her put on about their time at the School for Good and Evil. Sophie had of course hoisted the act of writing the music onto Agatha, at least the filled pieces that Sophie didn't get to sing.]

W-well ... you have to keep in mind the topic of the song and the beat. Well-written lyrics can be good but if they don't go with the music they're kind of a dud.

Hmm...

[Nanaki ponders those words, one of his ears flicking.]

That makes it rather hard... I had no idea song writing was so difficult.

D- Whale Watchers

[Goten has been doing what he can to keep the whales from attacking ships. He hasn't looked deep into things too much or tried to find a cause of it yet. No, his approach has been way more direct by pushing the whales away from any ships when they go to attack.
Between being able to fly and his inhuman strength it seemed like an good idea and seems to work--- but Goten also can't be out here all day or stop every whale. He's going to get tired after too long. Not to mention he's pretty soaked too.

He does blink hearing Red call out to the nearby whale. It has him floating over and peering at--- is that a red lion??]

Uh...you can talk? Can you speak whale?

[Agatha gestures both of her hands like sides of a pendulum.]

It's sort of hard but not at once?

[Did that make sense? Probably not.]

I've only ever written things for musical honestly. They ... weren't that great ...

[To say the least. She quirks a brow then.]

What sort of songs does he want anyway?

(Sidestep is here for two reasons: Turo, and animals.

It's possible Red might end up being a third reason, if the little smirk as he comes running is anything to go by.)

I'll help with the shelter area.

(It seems like there will be less people wanting to do that than feed the animals.)

[This month is starting on an unsettling note. The dying fish, the undead moogle haunting the shores... isn't this sort of spooky nonsense meant to happen in the autumn, when the year is drawing down towards winter's sleep?

...No, of course not. Not on the high seas. The ocean doesn't care; it has swallowed so many souls that it can haunt any day and any time.

So all in all, Faris is inclined to trust Nanaki's sense of smell.]

Let's hope they'll listen--[Faris cautiously approaches the whale in distress. Its beady eye seems to focus on them both, looking between Nanaki and his human companion...

And then it starts thrashing towards Faris.]

Dammit! [Instinctively Faris jumps back, but then he realizes that will just make the whale beach itself--he has to flee towards the sea, somehow.] Looks like it's not a fan of me! Try to keep talking to it!

[Well, Tifa is here for a bit of both—a tour and maybe a side of volunteering. She's been kept so busy with the new bar that she hasn't had the chance to visit the Conservatory yet, but it only felt right to finally set aside some time to visit and see Red's hard work.

So when he approaches, her back to him as she looks over the landscape that stretches out before her, he does startle her a bit, and she whips around to find him there with his tail up and looking as eager as ever.]

Red!

[And she looks equally delighted to see him.]

If you need the help today, I wouldn't mind. Mostly just came to finally see it all for myself, but I've got the whole day.

[Nanaki has come to a stop on the edge of the pier, as far into the ocean as he can get without swimming. He has no idea if the whales can hear him, but he doesn't like the sound they're making. They sound so upset...]

[At the other voice, Nanaki's ears flick as he looks up, seeing the strange flying person nearby.]

I'm not sure... but I have to try! They just sound really upset..!

[And if he can help them, why wouldn't he??]

Great!

[When out and about and dealing with others, Nanaki sounds a lot more mature in his mannerisms and speech. But here at the Conservatory, he's able to let his guard down a little, and speaks more like the young teenager he really is. As such, his tail wags eagerly as he turns to head deeper into the Conservatory.]

Most of the animals here already make use of the natural habitats, but I figure having a few shelters built might be nice, too. Especially since I think the mimic is getting a little sad sleeping out in the open.

Really? That's more than I've ever written!

[He's got a grand total of 0 songs written, so she's got more experience than him!]

He didn't really say what kind... all he said was he was looking for something "important" or "passionate." He didn't really elaborate beyond that.

Woah--!

[Nanaki has to leap to the side as well, since he was standing near Faris. But the whale seemed to have responded to him, so he shoots a quick nod to Faris.]

Alright, I'll try!

[He runs out to the end of the pier, as close to the water he can get without jumping in, before calling out again.]

Heeey! Stooop!! We're trying to help!!

Hey Tifa!

[He says it with a good-natured chuckle, his tail wagging eagerly behind him and his maw split into a wide, feline grin.]

For sure! I'd love to show you around! There's a lot to go over, though, so hope you're ready to walk!

(Sidestep might not physically or mentally be a teenager but they are chronologically one, and with all the ways they've been screwed up and stunted, their emotional maturity is around that age too.

They frown thoughtfully as they follow Red deeper into the conservatory. They really hope this new shelter isn't going to be in the bog or something.)

The mimic is an animate object. Pretty sure its natural habitat is in a building surrounded by other objects.

(It's as ill suited to roughing it out in the wilds as they are.

They're surprised Red even cares about it at all: it's not a real animal.)

[Fortunately for Sidestep, Nanaki isn't heading towards the bog, but rather towards the forested woodland area to the west.]

Well, even so, it's not like we can keep it in the reception area for long; the other volunteers know to be careful while they feed it, but any guests might get attacked.

[He's very concerned for the little creature; it may be an animated object, but it clearly has needs like any other creature. In a way, it reminds him of a certain feline companion from back home.]

I was thinking maybe we could build a little house for it to live in? That way it might feel a little more comfortable.

[It's always good to see him so enthusiastic and energetic that Tifa can't help but match him.]

Always am! I brought my good shoes today.

[Which are just her usual shoes that she wiggles at him, but she knows the value of taking care of her feet better than most! But she will let him lead the way.]

I'm already impressed, and I haven't even gotten the grand tour yet. For only being open a little while, it's really coming together.

[Goten floats closer to Red, more impressed by him now. He's really more surprised that Red can talk more than if he can speak whale or not. If Goten wasn't such a curious boy with a strong love for animals, Red would be a little intimidating to approach.]

Yeah...they seem really upset. I was trying to keep them away from the boats but they won't stop.

[Brute force isn't going to solve this and he doesn't want to hurt the already upset whales either.]

That'd work. Maybe decorate it with some other forms of trinket storage so it can feel like it has camouflage?

(It's not something they're used to: this placing of artifical creatures on the same level as natural ones. Yeah, they might value their fellows, but they don't expect anyone else to think they're worth more than being used until they break down and thrown on the garbage heap.

They sigh.)

[As crewmates, Zack and Red see each other often enough. But Zack actually hasn't had much time to swing by the conservatory just yet so today is the day that he makes that effort. It must be a lot of work to handle what Red does. But it's for a good cause. And anyone can appreciate the naming convention too. Cosmo Canyon was always a beautiful place to visit.]

Red, yo! I'd love a tour. But if there's any work I can do for you too, load me up.

[He's here to look around and check in on Red! But also put him to work if needed!]

[Agatha says the word, her brow wrinkling some. Well she sort of knows what she would write a song about but -- no, not that. She's not about to let herself continuously think of Tedros.]

Maybe something about ... friends? That's not passionate I guess but they are important.

[Seeing Nanaki call out to something, Eustace will approach and look out, only noticing what seems to be a distressed whale.]

Something wrong?

[The whale's thrashing towards Faris slows as Nanaki shouts to it. Seems it can understand. Faris skids to a halt before he's in the water.

It's an uncomfortable realization that he was ready to jump in just to keep the whale from hurting itself on the pilings. Is this what Lenna feels like all the time?]

Relax, matey. We know something's wrong. [Faris holds his arms out to either side, trying to show that he's no threat. Damn. This would be a great moment for his Krile to be here; she could talk to the thing properly.] I don't suppose you speak cetacean, do you?

Hey, that's a great idea!

[Nanaki's tail wags a bit at the idea, which wouldn't be a huge problem, but the tip of his tail is on fire. Sidestep may need to watch out a bit.]

Honestly, I'm glad people have been so willing to help out with the sanctuary, and even bringing in creatures who need a home. Just because something's an animal, or people call something a monster... if all it needs is a good home, is that so bad? Animals, and creatures... they deserve a chance at being happy too, don't they? And to be treated with respect, not considered lesser just because they aren't human. All manner of creatures should live together equally in harmony with each other.

[Nanaki chuckles, his tail wagging behind him.]

I can give you a tour first! Then you can see what we have here. Oh! Hey, one sec...

[Nanaki runs to the reception building, and goes to a special door designed for him to push and walk through. He disappears inside for a moment before coming out, a small map in his mouth which he offers to Zack.]

Here, take this. It's a map of the area! That way you won't get lost while we go!

[Nanaki looks over to Eustace, his ear flicking.]

There's something wrong with it... and they don't smell right. I think there's something wrong with them!

[He looks really worried.]

Can you help me keep the whale close? I don't want them to get hurt, but I want to ask them what's wrong.

Great! I can't wait to show you around. [Nanaki looks about ready to leave, but then pauses.] Oh, hold on a second!

[He turns to the reception building, and goes to a special door designed for him to push and walk through. He disappears inside for a moment before coming out, a small map in his mouth. He trots over to Tifa, offering it to him with a wag of his tail.]

It's great, huh? It's still a work in progress, but I'm so glad how it's turning out so far!
