[ There's no part of Xenk that would object to devoting himself to this. Even if it meant fighting all his instincts and visiting the worst city in Faerûn, Xenk would still do it. It simply isn't selfish, to ask your friends to stay with you. Not when your friend is a fellow immortal, and one who has grown to love you in the short time you've known each other.
The truth is of course Xenk would want to find Astarion as well. Having a friend who understands him, who doesn't find him off-putting or strange, and who he doesn't have to pretend around, has given Xenk more joy than he's ever felt, really. It's given him a reason to grow closer to people, and a reason to allow himself the opportunity to let others in, rather than keep them at arm's length.
Xenk has no one else waiting for him. That was by design. The thought of even one person wanting his presence so dearly is one he treasures. The fact that that one person is Astarion, well. That's better than Xenk could imagine. Thoughts of selfishness or regret simply don't cross his mind. Of course he would want to be there for his friend. Of course he'd want to follow through in aiding him with whatever he decides, and whatever comes next.
Xenk closes his eyes, holding Astarion and simply feeling the comfort of his presence. He doesn't intend to fall back to sleep unless Astarion does, but he's also perfectly content to lay here until morning.
And certainly, while Xenk doesn't know it, there is a very real possibility that the two of them could become enemies. But even if that were the case, some part of Xenk would ever care for him. And if it came to seeking his end, then better a man he knows than that of a stranger. ]
