It was—

[The words die right in her throat as soon as she feels his lips brush over her fingers, feels the rumble of his tenor find its way through them and into her chest where it settles, heavy and deep. Almost as if he knew that something like that would kill her resistance right in its tracks. She is all pride, but he is bold. Shameless, even, when it comes to her.

And as much as she screams at herself to pull her hand away, her fingers only curl and her wrist relaxes as soon as she meets his eyes...




But there's a loud bang from the sky, and a burst of green and yellow light as the very first firework of the night goes off without any warning, and then another, and another, all in quick succession, lighting his face up in all sorts of colours as she catches herself staring...

...

It's then that she withdraws her hand, and uses the fireworks as an excuse to tear her eyes away from his to look up at the fiery lights, now turning reds and oranges, as they explode overhead with the city's cheers below.]
