[ as much as kit would love to and insist upon being at surge's side at all times, the fact of the matter is, some of the things he needs to do? kind of boring for her, and he can't expect her to sit on her hands and wait for him. hydropack repairs was one of those things. another one, however, is something that he's not quite sure she'd appreciate, meaning when he finds his place to sit on a bench outside of a busy square, it's by himself.

at first, he doesn't seem to be doing anything suspicious. just watching as the people walk by... and that one over there happens to trip. kit's eyes remain on them the entirety of their fall, and even as they pull themselves up, look around, on the ground for what their foot could have snagged on—but there's nothing there.

and this happens... a few times. not once or twice, but wihout fail, every three minutes or so, somebody will fall flat on their face in the middle of this square. and again. and again.

whether the next person to fall is you, or somebody you happen to be observing at the moment, noticing that blue fox with the steady stare as they fall, is the question. ]

NOTE: This prompt is based on the idea of bloodbending being under the water class of magic. Because he did something similar to move a slime in the TDM, so he's trying to see if he can do it with people too. He can't do anything crazy because blood is made of more than just water; this is the most he can do, but I don't want to pull this on anybody without permission, so if you're not comfortable with this prompt but still want to hit him up, feel free to throw me a PM!

[ god forbid an animal be broke around these parts. between tattoos, hydropack repairs, and daily necessities? kit and surge's combined wallets have moths coming out of them.

that doesn't mean they won't treat themselves anyway, because surge deserves a treat, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any consequences for those treats. no... because when surge and kit aren't able to pay, those maid dresses they'd been offered upon entry are no longer voluntary.

that's why a green tenrec and a blue fennec fox will approach your table as you sit down to order, both dressed to the nines in their maidly fits. one is wearing a wide shark-toothed grin, while the other seems much more timid, pulling at the frills on his apron. it's the tenrec, who holds a feather duster in one hand and a menu in the other, who speaks: ]

Okay, let's see. We got... [ she's looking at the menu in her hand before turning it upside down, right side up, upside down. then she'll place it in front of the buyer. ] Yeah, so this is what we got, what'cha wanna order? No less than ten items, head chef in the back said so.

[ the chef ain't say that but they need as much cash as they can get around here. ]

[ when surge heard food, of course her floppy ears twitch and she's going to take herself right to eltrut's shores to see where it's at. shrimp is what they said, and here she thought that someone was selling, but no, it's more so lots of baby shrimp are hopping and swimming around in the water. her eyes widen at the sight, slowly rubbing her chin in thought as she looks left then right until she's placing her attention back on the snacks wiggling about. how many days would this keep her and kit fed? for a long time maybe.

it's hard being broke and having no way to keep a meal on the table, so what does surge go and do? she leaves the area to find six to eight buckets so that she can begin filling them up one by one. her hands scoop up a decent amount and dump them in. sure, she's helping them alright in her own way. ]

Hey, hey you. Hand me that really fat, juicy shrimp next to ya.

[ surge points over at it, trying to help them spot it before it gets away. ]

I bet he's super tasty on the grill.

[ So, once Della became a mom, she pretty much put all thoughts of romantic love (and lust) on the backburner. There was definitely a spark with Penny, but Della had wanted to take things slow, since the Lieutenant was still adjusting to earth. But here she is, yanked onto another world, with no clue when or how to get home.

She's still not planning on hooking up with anyone, but, well... can anyone blame her for a little observation? She'll just stay for an hour or two to ogle, grab a bite to eat, and then head back.

She'd been so busy eyeing the taller ladies she doesn't register who the extra company is at first, though the voice is familiar. She then blinks rapidly as the menu is popped in front of her - hey, quit blocking the view! ]

Huh? Oh, sure, I'll grab a small mug of mead, and do you guys know if you can put extra cheese on the -

[ That's when she gets an actual look at her servers.

Oh, hey, it's that tricky girl she hates! ]

AAAAAAAAAAH!

[ Oh, hey, it's that little boy she'd been smothering! ]

AAAAAAAAAAH!!

WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE?!

[ Oh, god, Surge is going to empty her wallet again! Oh, god, Kitsunami is going to think she's a pervert!!! THIS IS HELL!!!! ]

[ kit meanwhile is totally fine with serving della, who was nice enough to him on the corsair ship—he's busy jotting down her order as she says it, scribbling in the little notebook he'd been offered as a part of the waitstaff when—

AAAAAAAAAAH!

kit jumps so bad he actually drops his notebook and his pen. then she does it again! big eyes, alarmed, he's looking at della like she just. well. screamed her lungs out in the middle of this fine establishment. not asking if she's okay though, she should be asking if he's okay.

let him crouch down to pick up his notebook. surge will handle this. ]

Aaaaa, what a sight it is!

[ the tenrec laughs, unshaken by the girl's shock compared to kit who's reaching for his things that fell on the floor. this chick is a sight to see, someone who leads a single-mother-adventuring-shockless-life has come to a place like this? who knew she was so... single mothers really have all the time! ]

Makin' a coin at your expense. Like what ya see?

[ surge goes as far as to sit on the table, crossing her legs with a wink, and that feather duster extends to tickle at the top of della's bill. it's not like she won't make this worse, looking to kitsunami as she chuckles. ]

You're doin' good Drippy, blowin' our guests outta the water!!

[ with her other hand, she'll tap the menu to lead della's wandering, lustful eyes back to what's before her. ]

[ okay, he's got his things back together. let kit pull himself back up and then... why does she seem so panicked? kit glances to surge, as if for reassurance, before his gaze hesitantly returns to della. of course, his mind is quick to flip to the worst case scenario. ]

You... don't want to get caught speaking to us?

[ that's what it sounds like. "like it never happened?" why? kit is deflating as he speaks, looking dejected and depressed as ever—if not more. ]

S-sorry... But we really need the money, a-and...

No, you ain't gotta explain alla that. [ defensive, but she's also curious. ] Somethin' wrong with us, chick?

[ as playful as surge was at first, she's sliding off the table, fixing the skirt of her attire as she looks to the other. it's when kitsunami becomes unsure that surge's attitude flares, but she's holding back from causing a scene.

they do need money. ]

I mean, if ya tryna peek, then peek. [ at her, and praise kitsunami for being able to put it on without any issues. he was doing fine until della started screaming... ]

But I didn't think we were that much of eyesores to ya.

[ maybe della should have just focused on the menu. especially with how surge is picking it back up to look at it herself. ]

[ luckily, most of his time is still spent with surge, and he's grateful for that. unfortunately, they're still broke and pretty directionless. sonic's nowhere to be seen, and neither is tails, so there goes that idea. instead, their focus for now? survival.

kit's pack is repaired, but at a price, and the two of them walk the streets in search of a way to recoup the money they've spent on that. ]

I was thinking about getting... a job... J-just until we can afford a place to stay.

[ the boats are off the table, seeing as they've been assigned to separate ones, and the islands their crews live on are no different. they need a place here, where it's possible for them to be together, even if it's a little shabby, like that time they were staying in starline's old base...

which, speaking of it, when kit looks up? he doesn't do that often, but there's somethign that catches his eye.

kit steps back, but there's no ground underneath his feet. he's falling, and he panics as surge grows further away from him. not this!! ]

Surge—!

[ he's reaching out his paw for her. ]

Oh, sweetie, no!

[ This is towards Kitsunami, hands clasped together, taking on Loving Mom Voice. ]

There's NOTHING I would love more than to spend time with you, for real! And if you ever need any help, I would do anything I can for you, I promise!

[ Then a side-eye at Surge. ]

You, I'd sell for one corn chip. Also, what's the big idea bringing him here? What is he, ten? You should be looking out for him, not dragging him to places like this!

What do you know about Surge!?

[ the words are out of his mouth before he can even think about them. who is she to judge surge? she doesn't know what they've been through—or what surge has done for him. his voice is louder and clearer now than della has probably ever heard it, determined to stick up for his partner. ]

I wanted to come with her here! It was my choice! Surge is a good person! She even let me use her money to repair my hydropack after we were attacked!

[ his words spill out frantically, one after another, and those lightless eyes of his are glaring at her so hard now. just because she's like everybody else doesn't mean that surge is. ]

[ surge is a loudmouth, she makes herself known, but at this moment she's grown quiet. her expression from snarky to a more muted look as if she wasn't expecting that terminology either. it's because of the outburst and pretty aware of what della means by that is why surge shakes her head. ]

It's chill, Drippy. She's right, I did bring you here.

[ despite everything, she could have just made the money herself. ]

Anyway, y'know the thing about jobs that they tell ya? Customers are always right.

[ her expression becomes a little lively again, cheeky grin and her teeth visible. ]

Can't deny service for an opinion, so what'cha want, chick? What has the extra cheese?

[ a job is interesting, it's not something they've had time to do, and it's not like surge knows about child labor laws. normally their typical schtick is walking around searching for who needs help, if there's any danger happening around in certain places, but this is new territory. they'll have to learn.

she's not against the idea of it as she knows this different armada issue is in the way, and she does wonder what happened. why was she put here and drippy over there? probably a faulty ass system that can't be trusted, but when she turns at the exclamation in kitsunami's voice, the girl is surprised at the sight. ]

What the hell!?

[ quick, she drops to her hand and knees, reaches out to drab at kit's wrist, she doesn't make it, barely touching the tips of his gloves. she's not paying attention to the background, and rather than look for help, the girl slings herself inside of the odd ring to wind up falling too.

kicking her feet and arms, she tries to "swim" forward, it doesn't work as what she thought, and there's no such thing as flat surfaces to bounce off to grab him. ]

Hey! Hey!!! Grab my hand!!!

[ maybe she's heavier and will drop faster, but she's trying for him. ]

[ kit can see surge reach out her hand for him, and he reaches back too, but she's still just out of his grasp. he continues to fall, panicking—and maybe even more so when surge jumps in after him.

is that okay? is surge going to be okay? he feels much better not to be falling into... whatever he's been pulled into alone—not by himself, but there's a different kind of fear of what waits for them on the other side. does anything wait for them on the other side? surge is trying to get closer, and kit is reaching for her as desperately as he can. the tips of their fingers are almost able to tou—

thud. ]

Oof.

[ they'll find themselves in a pile on a hard concrete floor, surge perhaps on top of kit, or maybe she managed to stick the landing. what matters now? they've reached their destination. ]

[ going splat on the floor is not what she expected to happen, she sticks the landing in a way that she bounces right off kitsunami and rolls onto her back onto the cold, hard floor. a hand comes to her head, slowly blinking in at attempt to fix her vision and try to adjust to wherever they are. ]

Ow...ow...

[ it's not that bad, but rough landing and all. especially as she sits up, a hand against her stomach, and she turns to make sure kit is fine. ]

Are you okay?

[ she shoves her little companion pretty roughly, but enough to make sure he's still kicking. they don't have bodies like humans, but she still has to make sure and check all things considered how weird this place is. ]

[ Whoa! She wasn't sure the kid could get that loud! She blinks a lot, eyes bouncing back and forth between the two.

What has Surge done to make Kitsunami so loyal? Or was he just lonely and desperate? Whatever's going on, this isn't the time or place to ask. She then takes off her pilot's cap to run a hand through her hair, sighing. ]

... All right. No matter sass towards Surge tonight, you've got my word.

[ But if she's ever alone with Surge again, the sass will be RELENTLESS. ]

Let's get back to the order. The triple-meat sandwich with extra cheese. And water.

[ She had originally ordered booze, but right now, thinks it'd be safer to be sober. ]

Ow!

[ okay, sure, she bounces off of him and onto the concrete. at the shove, kit groans, but he manages to push himself up on his hands and sit upright, shifting a little closer to surge. he looks at her first, making sure she's okay, and she looks like it? so his attention turns to the place around them. ]

I-I'm okay... Where are we?

[ the rift had shown them starline's base, but this place doesn't look like it at all. it's cold concrete, and to each side of them, what seem to be empty cells, with prison bar separating them from the inside. ]

[ her ears wiggle, bends a lil more than they should thanks to her earrings, and she glances around at what they're working with. ]

Uh...

[ looking around, the girl pulls herself to her feet, standing properly as she walks over to the bars. one hand wraps around the length of one, shaking it a bit before looking at kit to see if he's as shocked as her. ]

Wow! Wowwee! Frickin' WOW! Ring cops now!? They got us in jail!! They didn't ask us to plead the 7th of anything!!

[ can you believe that!? ]

[Hey, it's great to see Surge and Kit just doing some honest work for once! Mostly. Be a real shame if someone decided to just drop in while they're working with a customer. And that's what ends up happening. Now, it was never Shadow's intent to just drop in on someone. Not in this fashion that's for sure.

But some random rift decided to just open beneath him, and then proceed to drop him on top of Kit, startling the patron at the same time by the surprise hedgehog. For a minute, he thought he had seen glimpse of something familiar as he was going through the rift, but that is not the concern right now.]

[ kit finally gets a glance around with surge, and his fur bristles on end. jail? jail? b-but they haven't done anything? kit's mind races, even as surge comments on their surroundings, but—no. they weren't arrested or anything, they just...

fell through that rift.

kit shakes his head. ]

We weren't arrested. Maybe... they'll let us out?

[ he can hope? ]

[ he'll get as loud as surge needs him to be, if he has to! but even as della agrees not to talk down to surge, there's still a bit of a bitterness to the sulk kit wears. he shrinks back into himself, adjusting the straps of his pack before he looks back down at his notebook. what he'd written before is still on the paper, so now it reads:

mead... sandwich with cheese... water...

maybe she doesn't want a hangover or something. ]

I'll tell the cooks.

[ no stutters or uncertainty to his voice now, his lightless gaze falling on della before it shifts to surge, and he turns to make his way. ]

Let us out? You think these rinka-dink bars can keep us in?

[ and they're metal, so she could have a fun time. surge leans forward against the bars in an attempt to try and stick her head through it. when she doesn't manage to squeeze though, she clicks her tongue as she walks back over to kit. ]

Let me think... I didn't rob anyone, I ain't crash a boat... I didn't beat that one hedgehog to a pulp yet.

[ she's listing off what could get her arrested. ]

Did we do somethin' illegal?

[ man what the hell. kit doesn't know what's going on, only that something topples him down and he doesn't even get a look at what it is. something that's heavy and probably alive, based on its temperature.

the best kit can do is try to glance over his shoulder and see something black as he squirms underneath it. ]

Surge...!

[ help! help! he's squirming! he's kicking! he's trying to escape without hurting any customers(?)! ]

No more sass towards Surge, huh?

[ the tenrec waits until kit is outside of earshot, and that's until he's back there with the cooks and the door's closed. now, a good girl would probably say something like she should wait until kit's gone to talk down to her. luckily, surge takes advantage of this. ]

I like the sound of that. I ain't know you knew how to be humble, Chick.

[ now the nickname is sticking as surge pats her chest with the feather duster. she only ordered three things, that's sad, how are they goin to make bank with such low orders. ]

You gotta be easy on Drippy, if you wanna quote bully me unquote, it should be when we have alone time.
