Now I know I'm here because I have you near
Who: Hiro Hamada
Status: Open
Where: Out and about with MANTA board stuff
What: Catch-all for August for MANTA quests and things.
Warnings: Does Tadashi come with his own warning? He should. By which, I mean there's always the chance of that coming up for Hiro. So, loss/grief/guilt with that and his resulting trauma and response. Maybe mentions of previous bullying. Mostly in the prompt regarding the Phantoms.
Crystal Battery Testing:
This stuff seems similar enough to things back home. Let's see....
[Hiro checks over things, the torch, the radio set, the clock, and kitchen appliances and tools. None of it seems out of place. He doesn't mind helping to test things out, knowing how important it is to make sure an invention works. And that things he might have taken for granted back home are not always necessarily going to be so easily available here.
He's out and about near the Forge, having recently acquired these items to test them out, and instructs Baymax to go ahead more so they can test the radios. He holds it up, pushing one of the buttons to turn it on and speak. Someone nearby might wonder what he is doing or who he is supposed to be speaking to as he tests it out.]
Testing. What can you see on your end? Over.
[Cue Baymax's possibly familiar voice saying something about a butterfly or a cat nearby. Or taking a moment before explaining that he saw a kid fall over and hurt their knee, so he had helped them clean it and given them a plaster and a lollipop.]
Uh-huh. Sure, good work, bud.
[They might need to work on this a little more with Baymax being so distracted on what to focus on and report to him. But the radios themselves seem fine. At least the robot had helped someone in the process?]
Beneath the Ink:
Hm. Says these things are drawn to negativity. I guess I'll have to try that, since I'm not sure if the magitech stuff counts so much with their being drawn to magic.
[Cue the scrawny teenager in his armour wanting to help somehow. Even if he might not be entirely sure how this might work. If that was the case, maybe something like positive feelings might discourage these things? He's just guessing with that hypothesis, but he is joined by Baymax as always. Hiro flexes one hand with the gloves, taking a breath and closing his eyes briefly.]
Okay. If these things want negativity, let's see. Show me Tadashi's video.
[Baymax's stomach starts to show a video of Hiro's older brother, the tests that he ran to see if Baymax was working as he had progressed in working on the robot from scratch.]
Paladin: - The Scales We Wear:
So, if we just.....control the fire? Uh, well, it needs oxygen? Maybe if I could figure out a mask for you or something....?
[Trying to focus on helping. The task at hand. Rather than the remnants of trauma from Tadashi having run into the fire back home. He'd gotten a little better about it with having made Fred's suit. But even then, he's still understandably nervous around fire. Anyone who knows him well enough might be able to tell, even as he says that and tries to focus on helping the dragon, that he is a little apprehensive as the dragon demonstrates the problem. Hiro stepping back instinctively and raising his hands in front of him.]
Ties That Bind:
[Hiro probably looks a little ridiculous with the glasses. Would probably tease Tadashi forever if he had some and wore them in front of Hiro at all. The whole thing about glasses and nerds. Or something like that. Still, he looks rather curious and amused as he puts them on and glances around, seeing the different red strings between people.]
This is kind of neat? A little weird.
[Since he doesn't feel the threads between everyone when he reaches out. But they're evidently there somehow when he looks through the glasses.]

Battery Testing~
But hey, there's no way he's not going talk to a fellow member of his crew.]
"Yeah, pretty sure you don't need special equipment when you've already got a partner like yours."
[Whatever the giant marshmellow is. He's a little fuzzy on the details.]
no subject
[If, for example, something happened with the phones? Having another way to communicate like this would be useful. Would help. But they'd need to figure out any limits and potential issues, ideally before it would really be needed in a potential emergency sort of situation.]
Think you just turned that off again, by the way.
no subject
[A statement and nothing more, even if the ever-present lilt of sarcasm remained threaded through every breathe. Axel blinks down at the device he was holding; the portable 'torch.']
"Hn? Oh, yeah." [He clicks the button again, not really paying it much attention, far more interested in what objects might have caught Hiro's eye off in his corner.]
"That something you do? Invent things?"
no subject
[He can probably still hear Aunt Cass's complaining and stress. Complaining about stress eating because of them. Because of their shenanigans. At least he had made it to fourteen before ending up in jail? Still, he shakes his head and presses the button to talk to Baymax again, taking a few steps back to test the range of the walkie-talkie.]
You can still hear me okay, bud?
no subject
"Sounds like quite the resume. Not that I've known many innovators."
[Not many he could he could say he particularly liked anyway. Maybe there was a time when his opinion hadn't been soured.]
"But I did pose as a researcher once."
[He chuckles offhandedly.]
"And why aren't you rolling in dubloons, exactly? By the look of things you could outtech anyone here."
no subject
[He's used to it. People underestimating him. People questioning if he should really be in those classes. Tadashi had trouble finding him when he finished at school for the day, and Tadashi came to pick him up because he was so much smaller than everyone else. Hiro's grown up with that.]
Eh. There's more important things than money. S'why I declined Krei's offer to buy my microbots. I just want to do what I can to help out. Besides, it's a bit different here with the magitech.
no subject
"Yeah. Suppose you'd want to just keep inventing things for people whether they paid you or not."
[He's known heroes and he's known academics; it's not hard to guess where lines converge.]
".. He all right?" [They never did hear Baymax give an answer from that last inquiry into the device, did they?]
no subject
[Hiro winces at that memory and how furious their Aunt had been. Still, he glances down at the walkie-talkie, checking in with Baymax, who merely says that he had seen a butterfly and gotten distracted.
Because of course he had.]
Beneath the Ink
[Leona squints at the kid and his…oversized walking doll. He raises a brow more so at the kid’s armor.
…
Yeah, the kid and the radish sprout would probably get along. Maybe.]
It’ll work on knocking these things unconscious, at least.
no subject
[Hiro shrugs, glancing over at Leona and telling Baymax to turn off the video as Tadashi says how Baymax was going to help so many people. It's maybe not necessarily something Tadashi remembered would have been recorded, but even so. It's the last video of his brother that he has. Especially here.]
What do we do then? To make them show up?
no subject
His tail flicks.]
They're drawn to magic, yeah? I can use enough to draw their attention so long as your walking marshmallow is ready to knock them out.
no subject
[Which isn't even going into his own suit he's been tinkering with. Hiro is confident that between the three of them, they should be able to manage. Probably. He just wants to help and figures even if he is better with support, making or repairing things, he can at least try. Given he had made the suits and all.]
no subject
[He blinks slowly at that. So, the kid is just...what? The controller? The fact that Leona even thought of that makes him want to scowl at himself. He does eye Baymax before holding back a sigh.]
Just make sure none of those things get close to you if they start swarming. Got it?
no subject
[Hiro isn't necessarily so much the controller, but he will sometimes tell Baymax what to do or ask him to do something. Baymax can do things on his own. Hiro has learned not to take out the healthcare chip after that incident back on the island. Still, he nods, and Baymax readies, instinctively standing in front of the teen.]
Got it.
no subject
Holding back a sigh, Leona summons his staff into his hand and raises it up, just barely above his head. With a murmur, he shoots out a small fireball from the head of the staff, high enough to be seen.
His nose twitches, ears perked when he begins to hear rustling from around them.]
Get ready.
no subject
[Hiro says with a nod, his fists clutched in front of him, before he readies a shield in front of him from his magitech gloves. Not that he might necessarily need it, given Baymax always puts his safety as a priority, being a healthcare companion and all, but still. He wants to do his part as well. Baymax readies himself in a defensive stance, waiting to see when anything might appear. They glance around at the rustling, trying to figure which direction it might be coming from.]
no subject
The creatures seem to be moving slowly towards them. Clawed hands digging into the ground as if they're trying to drag themselves but what concerns Leona isn't the sight of them. It's the heavy miasma that seems to be trailing after them.]
Let's see what the rocket fist of yours can do.
no subject
[Baymax nods, holding out his arm and preparing to launch the rocket fist. He waits until the creatures emerge from the bush before he fires it, aiming at them to see if it might have any sort of effect. The dark trail around behind them has Hiro frowning as he glances from behind the robot, narrowing his eyes.]
The trail? Maybe if we follow that? Maybe something's affecting them....?
no subject
Let's go then. Just don't wander off, kid.
[He's not exactly here to babysit, after all.]
no subject
[Well. Not without a good reason, anyway. But even if he did, he has Baymax. So he isn't alone. Hiro pouts all the same, gesturing with a finger to his lips for Baymax to be quiet. The robot nods, following along after Leona and Hiro as they check out the trail together. It's initially fine, though at one point Baymax steps on a twig and Hiro winces at the noise. Pausing and waiting if anything else might have heard.]
no subject
Unfortunately, that does mean that some Phantoms pop out from wherever they were hiding. Looking more and more human aside from the giant "mirror" that now decorates their faces.
Leona aims his staff towards them and forces them back with a strong wind spell to send them flying.]
no subject
Their faces? Mirrors?
no subject
[He frowns, holding back a sigh.]
They smell too much like ink now. Doubt they can be saved at this point.
no subject
[Maybe others were more recently....affected? He doesn't know what to expect. Things here were so different from back home. He isn't sure if the other intends to do something here. But he does want to figure something out about this. He wants to figure this out. See if there might be some way to find out more about this situation. This ink.]
no subject
[It's a bit harsh, but Leona has to be blunt. There's no point in being optimistic if they're this far gone already.]
Or at least subdue them and ensure they can't affect any others.
no subject
[Hiro might be used to fighting. But that doesn't mean he is used to killing. Even if these creatures weren't human. That still doesn't mean that he isn't hesitant about that. Going that far. Baymax isn't programmed to actually hurt anyone. But would that still mean he could do this? If these things aren't human?]
no subject
And what else would you suggest?
[He glances at the kid.]
no subject
[He's not that naive or young, that untouched by death to be that oblivious that it happens all the time. Hiro just can't help thinking about Tadashi. Someone has to help.. Even if he isn't sure how. Yet. Maybe there's something else? Another way to deal with this? Baymax nods in agreement, though if he has done so, his scans of these creatures might not be as reliable, given they aren't anything he has come across before.]
no subject
Leona tilts his head to the side, debating. Considering as he regards Hiro. When one of those Phantoms starts making their way over to them again, he holds his staff out and starts to summon a Wind spell.]
Would you be able to do it if it's the last option available?
[Killing them, he means. Taking a life is never easy regardless of what it is, after all. Leona isn't blind to that, especially since this herbivore is still just a kid. Maybe even younger than the freshmen back at Night Raven.]
no subject
[He almost had. Once. In his rage and upset at Callaghan. Hiro still felt bad about that. He knows these things aren't human. But he still figures that Baymax's programming would prevent him from really harming these things. And he's been more focused on defense in his case with his suit. And mobility. Not so much offense. ]
My suit -- it's more....defensive.
no subject
He tilts his head, seeming to consider. Thinking.]
Even if the ones in front of you are considered monsters, he still can't hurt them?
no subject
[Luckily. While he did figure having Baymax add some fighting capabilities, Hiro has no intention of a repeat of what happened with Callaghan. He'd only done that because of how worked up and emotional he was in the moment. His upset and fury had gotten the better of him. That shouldn't be the case here.]
Maybe we can at least uh, restrain them or something? Until we figure things out?
no subject
[Leona is really all for killing these things honestly. He doesn't have much faith, but he hadn't realized there are so many good Samaritans in this world.
He exhales heavily.]
If you can find a place to put 'em in, I'll gather them up and bring 'em there.
no subject
[Somewhere out of the way, ideally, he figures. He's just not so sure how to go about getting these things there. If he and Baymax were to fly and find somewhere to keep them for the time being, at least. Still, he glances at the robot, figuring maybe his scanning might help figure something out easier.]
no subject
[Leona glances over when the Phantoms starts moving again.]
I can buy time for you and your marshmallow to find a place. Otherwise, I make no promises they'll be left standing if we keep taking too long.
