A - Library

[You might be at the archive, for whatever reason, or perhaps at a library, or even a bookstore. Regardless, you'll probably come across Roxas. He's at a table further back, almost out of the way and he is surrounded by books. Large piles of them, several open to various pages around him. His brow is furrowed in concentration.

Looking over his shoulder, you might see books about monsters, or books about the ocean, or possibly what is a novel. Either way, he's very focused. And it's kind of hard to tell how long he's been there.]

B - Let's Mosey

It's just a staircase, right?

[It really doesn't seem that threatening, other than the fact that it's big. But also, Roxas feels like he's seen worse? Or maybe he's just remembering the convoluted nature of the Castle that Never Was.]

We just have to climb it? Not even fight monsters or anything?

C - Ruby Seas Under Ruby Skies

[It's not a great scene. The beach is a mess, between bodies and debris, and it seems almost overwhelming to Roxas. He's not even sure where to start. Does he help someone? Does he start clearing things away? It's hard to make a choice.

He goes to consider some driftwood, and perhaps the merman resting against the driftwood as well when there is the sound of sand shifting and Roxas finds himself surrounded. A number of corsairs are also interested in this injured merman.

But at least that's the decision made, he figures as his keyblades flash into existence.]

[ Faulkner is, by this point, a bit of a regular at... most libraries and bookstores. Sometimes he's looking for information, sometimes he's just looking for whatever cheap distraction will, well, distract him from whatever he needs at the moment.

It's a bookstore today, and that makes it slightly more surprising even when he spots the kid surrounded by stacks of books. He can't help but be slightly amused and curious. ]

...You on the hunt for somethin' in particular?

Huh? Oh....not really. Just browsing.

[As much as a stack of books can be called that.]

[ He tilts his head to the side a little, still seeming amused. ]

That's a lot of books for browsin'.

[ Not that he can really judge. But most of the time when it's this many he's looking for something. ]

Haven't really found the right one, I guess.

[And, well, it's hard to make a decision on the one(s) he wants.]

Mm... what kinda thing do you usually like?

[ He might have a few suggestions, depending on the answer. ]

Uh, well...I dunno. I was kinda looking for books about monsters. But, I guess I also like adventure books.

Stuff like that.

Stories about monsters, or books about the ones that live here?

[ Because he's done a fair bit of trying to actually research the latter one, but he's come across some adventure stories that were a decent distraction. ]

But is there really a difference?

[He wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't.]

Figure one of those things might come a little more in handy. Then again... can't speak to the accuracy of the ones I've found. But I have found a few.

A few that read more like research... and a lot more that read like adventure stories that are probably takin' a few liberties, even when they're critters I know are really are here. There's always the archives, too.

Yeah, but the archives are really dense. And a lot.

Think I'd prefer the adventure stories.

[Today's outing involves Eizen making a quick pit-stop to a library to see if they have a reference book or two. He browses around for a bit through the aisles before stopping at a specific one. Ah, here we go: one on famous paintings and another about marvelous pottery masterpieces.

It's as Eizen's headed toward the front desk that a familiar face catches his eye, with said familiar face surrounded by a small fortress of books. Eizen quirks a brow. Now that's quite the pile.]

Must be quite the topic you're researching with this many books.

[It takes Roxas a moment, blinking as he looks up at Eizen.]

There's a lot of monsters in this place.

[verboaten]

[Yup, that's the face of a kid who's hard focusing --maybe too hard-- on something. It actually reminds Eizen of another bookworm blond kid back home.]

Then that's what you're reading about? The monsters here?

[Definitely too hard.]

Yeah. I, uh. I want to know more, so I can be better prepared and stuff.

[verboaten]

[Eizen gives a nod as he leans against a nearby bookcase.]

Not a bad idea to prepare.

[But preparing and going overboard with it are two different things. Since Roxas seems to be leaning more toward the latter, a small distraction may be in order. Nothing too big, just a short chat to give the kid a break from those books.]

Is there anything especially useful that you've learned so far?

[Overboard seems to be where he's at at the moment. His confidence has been rattled.]

This world's got a lot of monsters?

Like...more than I even thought, I guess.

[verboaten]

That sounds about right. Back in my world, the amount of creatures I ran into likely doesn't even come close to half of what exists, and that's been over the course of a 1000 years.

[But that's part of the excitement of traveling and exploring. ...Even if it also means unknown monsters attacking him out of nowhere, but still part of the excitement.]

And even then, a good chunk of those I did run into weren't really documented in books.

[Books only include known entities, after all.]

[Roxas's face does fall at that.]

Seriously? There's no way I can remember all of that!

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, it's good to get a rough idea of what you're gonna be going up against, but you'll study yourself into an early grave trying to memorize everything.

[Like good effort, but bad execution.]

If you want to prepare, then prepare yourself. Train your skills. Figure out your weaknesses and figure out how to cover those weaknesses. Do what you can to give yourself an edge against any enemy, known or unknown.

I already do that though!

[He sighs.]

Or try to, anyway.

Are you worried you aren't doing enough?

[That worry would explain all the books.]

[It is the second time Erichthonios has seen the boy in the flesh. And just as the first, he seems to be facing off against a substantial number of assailants.]

You would wield violence against a child!?

[The normally quiet-spoken man's voice echoes in a roar of fury. These weren't creatures of the sea given bipedal form. There was no excuse for this.]

[A few of the Corsairs look askance at one another, as if having second thoughts, but the one that seems to be the leader and a few of the others throw back some jeering challenges instead.]

If he be getting in our way!

[Roxas, for his part, kind of rolls his eyes. He's not a kid.]

Whatever! Just stay away from him!

[Indicating the merman.]
