[ first thing's first: tifa had basically adopted keyleth just after her arrival and keyleth has been trying her best to work up her courage to actually stay there and meet the rest of the crew. so early the next month, she can be found around the ship in various places.
the kitchens will see her attempting to bake something. what is it? great question. she's trying to remember how to make some of the various treats from the slayer's cake, but it's been a while since she was actually able to do any of that baking and her memory is... well, it's fine, but it's still been a while. even so, the bear's claws treats come out pretty well and she sets them out to cool.
smiling at whoever is nearby, she motions towards the treats ]
Give it a little time. They need to cool. Then you can try them!
[ if she's not in the kitchen, she's probably hanging out in a corner of the bar with her alchemy set out. this has also been a while between attempts, but she used to be pretty good at making potions for vox machina, so why not try here? she's halfway through when someone walks by, trying to imbue the liquid with the right amount of alchemy and magic. there's a soft pop and — ]
No! Shit!
[ a little bit of a scramble as she has to prevent the whole vial from exploding... that's awkward. ]
[ she'll spend a portion of every day at aerith's garden. tifa had told her they had a garden but no one who really knew how to tend one since the person who created it had left. so keyleth had promised to do what she could to keep that garden alive and encourage it to flourish. so at some point, she spends an hour in meditation, trying to revitalize the soil of the garden.
it's strange, since there's no real ground underneath, or not as much as would normally be there if they were on land, but there's enough that her spell seems to take effect. when she's not meditating, she's tending the garden itself, letting her nature-based magic heal the earth and encourage growth. anyone who approaches her will notice the way her very footsteps encourage the plants' growth and a soft breeze surrounds her constantly. if she notices anyone standing around nearby, she motions for them to join her. ]
Could you grab that watering can for me? This patch needs a little more.
a skull full of ice
[ keyleth had honestly intended to move straight over to the seventh heaven as soon as tifa had made her offer of a place to stay. but it had taken her a little time to work up the courage to do it and by then she'd actually noticed some strange earthquakes happening on nogard. some investigation later, she discovers the poor leviathan is.... freezing??? that's no good. this poor creature doesn't deserve that!
so she spends a hefty chunk of every day, sometimes into the nights, lighting bonfires with her magic. she routinely casts flaming sphere, moving the ball of fire from one pyre to another until her spell slots have been depleted. ]
Hey, can you point me at the next bonfire? I've gotten all the ones I know of but there might be more. Or if you want to light some torches to help start more, I've got about another minute left on this spell.
[ when her spell slots are gone, she does the only other thing she can think of: she turns into a giant fire elemental. careful not to burn the bones of the poor leviathan, she flits from surface to surface, lighting fires where necessary and staying away from anything flammable that doesn't need to be set on fire.
she can't speak in this form, or what words she can say come out in the language of the fire elementals, which is mostly the hissing and roaring sounds of fire. so it's the same thing here. but she does understand words spoken towards her and any directions given will be heeded as best she can. just try not to dump water on her or put out the big plume of fire, okay? she's not a threat; she promises! ]
wildcard!
[ anything else on her cr meme tickle your fancy? want some other options? did i forget something? drop me a thought or a prompt and let's get to it :) feel free to hit me up atsixflights as well for ideas if you'd like! ]

A Skull Full of Ice
[Turning slowly, he's currently hauling some supplies over to the next place that's in need of repair. So it takes him a moment to think about the bonfires. Where was the last one he...? Ah, right. He points down the road.]
Should be that way. Last I saw they were still stacking it, but they should be lighting it up soon.
no subject
Thanks!
[ she glances in the direction he indicates before turning back to her spell with a slight frown. the ball of fire writhes in midair, but is definitely starting to fade. ]
Don't have much longer on this spell. You wouldn't happen to have a torch or something I could carry back to them, would you? Kinda hate to lose this fire, but I don't want to burn my last spell slot until I know I'm near something that needs to be lit again.
no subject
[And ready to get back to it, he'll stop again. Thinking, ah... he'll set his supplies down considers.]
I think I did grab something... here we go.
[It looks like it had been a torch at some point. The metal's a bit out of sorts and it would've worked as some small frame reinforcement, but Wriothesley grabs and pulls and twists it back into something more usable. Put a little fuel in the top (too bad he didn't have any oil), and done.]
Think this'll work?
no subject
Well, there went my spell, but this will definitely help later. I can put something up top and carry fire after my next spell fades. Thanks!
[ she seems to notice what he's dragging along with him now. ]
Need some help? I was going to hurry back to the bonfires, but I can spare a minute to help get you where you were going if you need it.
no subject
[It's a crude thing, but if it can work, it works. Though, she had mentioned a 'spell slot' and he wonders what exactly means. He'll keep it in mind.]
Do you mind? It shouldn't be that much further.
[She always had the option to back out since he knows getting those fires going is way more important at the moment. Still, sooner the repairs and reinforcements are completed, more hands would become available then.]
for @refantasma
it's one of those days when she hears someone walking nearby. turning to greet them, and maybe ask if they want some berries, she pauses when she spies nico. they haven't spoken since the wreaths and the fact that plants seem to just wither at his touch makes her nervous. but she's now very obviously spotted him. it would be rude not to say anything, right? ]
...Hi... Think some of these berries are ready to be picked. If you want a couple.
no subject
But she's trying to be polite. So, it's only proper to be polite in return.]
I like strawberries.
[Self-conscious, he moves towards the patch, takes a breath and picks one.]
no subject
[ keyleth holds her breath as he reaches for the berry patch. she'd been about to pick one for him, just in case, but there he goes, doing it himself. and for a second she thinks it might happen again, that she might witness something living crumble to dust.
but nothing happens and she lets the breath out in a relieved whoosh. ]
Okay, well, that's a start. [ she manages a small smile, still trying to be friendly and polite. ] I haven't seen any other berries in this patch, but there might be more further in. I was trying to tend them. Doesn't look like they get much attention way out here. Not that they need a lot, but a little weeding and water never hurt.
no subject
[He gives her a very teenager look as he pops the strawberry into his mouth.
But as she talks, his expression softens as he politely chews and swallows.]
I know a little. We raise strawberries at camp. Though I'm not really allowed near them unless I'm in a good mood.
seventh heaven!
Is that presumptuous of her to say so? She's only known her for a little over a month, but they have become fast friends. She'd like to think that it wasn't...
She's on her way to check on the garden for the first time this week when she suddenly stops in her tracks upon spotting Keyleth meditating in the garden.]
Oh—! Sorry!
[She nearly spins around to scurry away, but pauses.]
I didn't think anyone would be here.

when tifa approaches, she's at the end of her hour-long spell. it's not the eight-hour variant she would do if she had a whole day and a lot more space. more ground to help. so she motions once she hears the familiar voice, recognizing who it is instantly. ]
It's okay. I'm almost done.
[ there's a soft glow around her radiating down to the earth and in another two minutes, tifa will see that blue-ish glow fade as keyleth turns her head up. she's cross-legged on the ground by the plants, a smile gracing her face as she motions again for tifa to join her. ]
I was just using some of my magic to revitalize the soil. It's not what I could do if this were a patch of earth out on the mainland, but it should help anyway. I want to make sure this garden survives and thrives and part of that is making sure the ground it's rooted in is at its best. If you've got time, I was going to start tending it. Think there's some weeds that need a little care and it definitely needs water.
no subject
Was a little quiet at the bar, so that's exactly what I came up here to do.
[There are some supplies set aside for garden tending—a watering can, some shovels and rakes, some gloves—but Tifa pauses next to Keyleth.]
So what were you doing, exactly? Looked like you were meditating.
no subject
Oh that? It was a spell, just something to help the plants grow. Literally, it's called plant growth. But if I sat there for 8 hours casting it, I could do a lot more and with a larger patch of ground. I've done farmlands before. It just takes a while. This one garden is small by comparison, so I thought an hour would do it. Seems to have helped. The plants look a little greener, maybe a little happier.
[ she glances back to the garden, gently pulling aside some leaves to show off, examining the health that she can see. ]
Now it's time to do a little weeding, check the leaves to make sure nothing's nibbling them that shouldn't be. We're checking the health of the garden, essentially. And then feeding it with some water.
[ she gestures towards the one plant she's got a hand on before she starts digging her fingers into the weeds around the roots. there's not much that needs to go, but the little things she knows will just grow to cover it need to get taken out before they suffocate the ones they want to grow. ]
no subject
It's always a little hard keeping the weeds out, to be honest. I swear being docked at Eltrut all the time means we get a lot of pollen and seeds blowing down from the turtle's back on a windy day.
[She brushes the leaves of the flowers, and then carefully tugs on the roots of the small weeds.]
Any way we could stop them from growing?
a skull full of ice
Fancy that, I'm on my way as well. It's not too far from where we are, and I know a shortcut to it.
[Keyleth will be his next shortcut victim—]
no subject
Oh great. That'll help. This spell isn't going to last much longer and I don't want to cast another until I'm near something that can take the fire. Don't want to waste it.
[ but the power of her current sphere is definitely waning. it won't last much longer. ]
Lead on! I don't know my way around here yet.
[ bring it on, cid. what's the worst that can happen to them— ]
no subject
Oh is it a timed spell?
[...Hm.]
Would it still work if it was stored in something? My invention here is capable of creating fire, but it can store it as well.
Seventh Heaven
Which is where he runs into the young lady trying to. Um. Do something? Oh baking.
G'raha does take a look at them, his ears twitching. ]
Ah. How long do you think it will be?
a skull full of ice!
being something akin to an elemental himself, eizen's not overly taken aback by someone in the distance suddenly turning into pure flame. surprised by the suddenness of it, sure, but that passes quickly enough.
eizen approaches keyleth just as she finishes up with her last bonefire.]
There's a couple fires that need lighting down this way if you've the flame to spare.
