Who: Izuku Midoriya & Friends Status: Closed Where: Where these threads take place. What: A catch-all log for closed threads with Izuku for the month of January. Warnings: tba.
[This actually marks Izuku's first official bounty hunt. Izuku hasn't had the chance to take up any of these monster-killing bounties before so he is both curious and a little nervous about it. Killing monsters is a typical task in a fantasy video game so it should be alright to do something like this for real. But itβs still a little nerve-wracking.]
It's a certain type of jellyfish that we're hunting down? I wonder how we're supposed to hunt down and capture something that can be semi-transparent like a jellyfish.
[But heβs ready to do this. Hopefully. He even has some fish netting ready. So long as they can lure it out of the water somehow...]
[Katsuki likewise hasn't tried his hand at a bounty yet. He's been keeping busy with quests to start with. But he was ready to get into bounties and... of course he'd end up out here with Izuku.
Of course.]
If we can find a way to lure it to the surface, we should be able to drag it in with your net.
[Amazing how they seem to get paired up in the most likely of places. But Izuku doesn't complain because he actually likes getting paired up with Katsuki. And now that they're all sharing a cottage together it only makes sense that they keep working together. Right? Yeah.
Izuku nods and looks contemplative.]
That sounds like a good plan to start with. But what should we use for bait? Actually... What do jellyfish eat?
[Izuku obediently does so, going to the railing of the ship with Katsuki and reaches for the net to help him with it. Together, they'll toss the netting into the water and Izuku will secure the rope to the side. Look at them! Fishing! The smell of the sea water is kind of nice too.
It's a good day... He just hopes that catching this strange rare jellyfish won't be too crazy.]
There. That should do it for now, I think? When we do find this jellyfish I wonder what it'll look like.
[Izuku goes to help yank the netting up! But it's heavy. So heavy that it might take a second for them to yank it out of the water. Something huge is caught in the netting. Something huge and... squishy...!]
[No... That's not krill or shrimp at all. And because Katsuki accidentally loses his grip the large catch uses that leverage to pull the net down hard...
And Izuku with it.]
Ahhhh?!
[He's dragged off the railing and goes tumbling into the water!!]
[Katsuki hears the yell but he's not fast enough to grab Izuku before he's vanishing over the side. Katsuki hears the splash and hurries to lean over the side, eyes scanning for signs of him.]
[The blast takes the jellyfish off guard immediately. It screeches with a high-pitched siren sound and releases Izuku who propels himself back by stringing blackwhip up onto the ship's railing. Izuku knows he has to get out of the way if Katsuki is blasting.]
Kacchan, hit it again! Stun it!
[He's using his other hand to blackwhip around the netting to keep it tangled up.]
[Katsuki can really go in on it now that Izuku is out of the way. He leaps onto the railing like the gremlin he is and starts letting off controlled blasts to try to stun the creature.]
[He's always so proud of Katsuki when he goes full gremlin mode in a fight-]
We won't let it get away!
[Izuku still hangs there from his blackwhip but he has to stay there to keep the netting in place because the jellyfish is thrashing around violently under Katsuki's barrage. And just when he thinks the jellyfish is going to knock out- it lets out another piercing shriek. So loud it hurts.]
[Katsuki grimaces at the sound too. Even for a guy used to hearing explosions all day, that hurt.
But it seems like it might be weakened so he makes a grab for the net to try to help pull it in. Only to find himself losing his footing and toppling into the water with a shout.]
[Katsuki is falling into the water?! Izuku has to burst into overdrive mode to release blackwhip from the netting to shoot it to grab Katsuki out. He won't go full crazy and jump in after him since he knows Katsuki isn't incompetent at all but he'll help!!]
[When black whip grabs him, Katsuki assumes it's a tentacle at first and he struggles, trying to escape its hold as he thrashes in the water.
He pushes wet hair out of his eyes and grabs at it, glaring, ready to blow a tentacle off if need be.
Only to see it's black whip. He doesn't fight being pulled back out after that. And once he's back on deck he scrambles to the edge to grab the net again. One hand on the net. Wet and cold both make sweating difficult. So he won't have another explosion in him. He plants his feet, swears and glances at Izuku.]
[With a fling, Izuku manages to whiplash them both back onto the desk. They're both sopping wet but it doesn't matter right now. They can still capture and defeat this thing together even without Katsuki's explosions.]
Gnn!
[With a heave Izuku pulls and with the two of them pulling they can aggressively yank the creature up out of the water. With such force, the jellyfish goes flying high into the air and then comes crashing down on the ship deck with a loud and wet smacking noise.]
[Katsuki scrambles across the deck and throws his body over the thrashing beast with a grunt. Trying to keep it from squirming away. His quirk is out of commission right now so...]
Finish it!
[Preferably before he gets yeeted by this thing again.]
[He doesn't have to be told twice. Izuku's electric power surges through his limbs and he winds up with a powerful drop kick from above.]
SMAASSSH!!!!
[Izuku drop kicks it so hard that the one jellyfish doesn't stand a chance. Unfortunately, that also means that it explodes in a jellyfish explosion, jelly and jellyfish guts going... everywhere...]
[Izuku lands on his feet and for a second he seems very happy that they won! Besides the goo all over the place, he almost puts his fist in the air in victory!! ... Until he hears what Katsuki says.
[He's a bit... slimy as well. So Izuku tries his best to clean himself up and it leaves Izuku shivering slightly as well. What a cold and miserably wet moment. He can't wait to be dry.
He takes the bucket with a sheepish nod.]
If we at least bring back proof that we took down the mark it should be okay. I hope...
[It's going to be kind of embarrassing to bring back a single cup of angel goo.
Anyway. Izuku does the best he can to scoop up the jelly. And he sneezes too. But once that's done it's a job done too.]
[Katsuki comes back, eying Izuku at that sneeze. He fiddles with the blanket in his hands before slinging it around Izuku's shoulders. It's an enchanted winterwarding blanket that will keep him warm.]
Gimme that. I'll stash it so it doesn't tip over on the trip back.
[He snatches the bucket and goes to do just that. Saying not a single word about the blanket.]
[And suddenly the blanket is draped over his shoulders and the cup of angel jelly is taken. Izuku is left standing there blinking for a moment. It's not that he's confused. It's just that- Katsuki is being really cool and nice.
He tugs the blanket close to his chin because the warmth is very inviting. Then he goes to follow Katsuki. They can finish the quest now.]
Kacchan, this blanket... It's so warm! Where did you get it? This is incredible.
[And off they go to hand in their one (1) cup of jelly.]
[Izuku isn't even supposed to be in Nogard right now. As a paladin, this is very much "off-limits" to someone like him. But he's been turned around accidentally and now he's trying to get back to the Nogard docks so he can hop the next ship out of here before someone can stab him.
... But there's one little problem. A treasure chest is chasing Izuku down the cobblestone street and Izuku is trying to lose it before he loses a leg.]
Ehhh?! Watch out!! Move!!
[Because here comes a teenage boy running straight towards an old man. With a mimic chasing him.]
[ Emet-Selch shouldn't be here either. By all accounts, the rogues dislike the paladins. Something to do with incompatible moral codes or something. (It probably doesn't help that there's someone being tried for some crime or other right now too.)
But if he doesn't visit all the leviathans then how will he expand the places he can teleport to? Thus he finds himself here, doing his best not to draw attention (and failing). That's when he hears the screaming.
He turns. It's almost comedic: Emet-Selch, minding his own business, and this young, green-haired boy chased by an ambulatory treasure chest.
Thud! The boy crashes into him and they all go sprawling on the street. ]
What in the seven hells--?!
[ He sees the shadow of the chest looming above them, mouth full of sharp teeth opening wide. On instinct, he thrusts out his hand and casts a bolt of darkness straight at it. ]
[Just two paladins out of their depths on a pirate island right now! What could possibly go wrong...? A lot of things, actually, as Izuku slams right into the old man.]
S-Sorry! Sorry! Ah- Are you alright?!
[Izuku is quickly clamouring to his feet and reaching out to help Emet-Selch up to his feet. All the while the fanged treasure chest is barrelling towards them.]
Ahhh?!
[The slam of dark magic explodes with a loud crackling noise and the treasure chest gets blasted to the ground a few paces away. It writhes on the ground before it rolls back to its little stubby wooden feet and growls at them.]
It attacked me out of nowhere, we better get away from it...!
[ Oh. It's a mimic. Emet-Selch rolls his eyes and groans, almost wishing he could just play dead here on the street and pretend this isn't happening. He accepts the hand up but quickly brushes it aside to ready another spell. ]
[ He says this with absolute certainty but he won't know until he tries.
He waves his hand and sends a stream of fireballs towards the mimic. The smoke obscures the thing briefly and Emet-Selch pauses, on guard in case it is more sturdy than it looks. ]
[Oh, there he goes! The old man just starts blasting!! Izuku stands there in shock with one hand out as if he's not sure if he should stop this or not. Sure, it's a monster... But what if it's an endangered species or something?
Not that he has much time to ponder that because once the smoke starts to marginally clear there's suddenly a jumping mimic flying right at them with its mouth wide open and fangs sharp.]
Uwahhh!!!
[It tries to chomp right down on Emet-Selch's head- But Izuku does try and jump up and punch it square in the nose before it gets that close?!]
[ Luckily, Emet-Selch had instinctively tried to duck the chomping chest. Izuku's fist lands squarely in the middle of the thing's face and sends it flying back. ]
...Sturdy creature. But an animated treasure chest ought to be susceptible to fire.
[ He frowns at the thing as it hops about trying to right itself so it can launch another attack. ]
I- I would have thought that too. Maybe... It's not entirely made of wood?
[It's pretty alive to him. Look at it withering around on the ground like that. Izuku punched it very hard so splinters and chucks of charred wood are coming apart from its sides so what else would work...? If it's not all wood?]
Ah-! Do you have thunder magic of any sort? Something electrical?!
[ As he slowly stands up again, straightening his clothes in the process, he scoffs. ]
My boy, I would be a poor mage if I couldn't command all of the six elements.
[ The six elements of his homeworld, that is. He holds out a hand and a crackling ball of violet energy tinged with white forms over his palm. Just as the mimic looks to be finding its feet, he lazily lobs it towards the creature. Upon contact, the levin ball explodes. The air seems to pulse outwards, causing hair to stand on end. It leaves behind a smell of ozone. ]
[A perfect electical explosion. So much so that the aftermath has Izuku's hair frizzy and standing on end. And the mimic is left electrocuted and fried on the ground dead. But there seems to be something shiny that falls out of its mouth too. Something like gold...? Did it eat something gold?]
Ah... That was incredible?!
[Don't mind as Izuku marvels a little, looking at the creature and to Emet-Selch with a bit of awe sparkling in his eyes.]
You are an extremely talented mage. I'm glad I ran into you today. ... Erm- Sorry, For literally running into you.
[ Is it real gold? He peers at it with his Sight in case it turns out to have been the monster's core or something. The last thing they need is for it to suddenly turn on the boy. ]
Normally I would suggest returning it to its owner... But here we are on an island of corsairs. Anyone could claim it as their and we would be none the wiser.
[He can sincerely say that he's never reached down to pluck something out of a dead creature's body before... But the little golden brooch seems clean enough and shiny too.]
You're right, I don't think there is anything like a lost and found here.
[He frowns.]
Maybe one of us can keep it for now until we can find a way to find the real owner? It seems special.
[ Well, it does resemble a mimic from his star. Annoying creatures. He's not sure how well these ones are at discerning real gold from fake gold but someone must be missing it either way. ]
I suppose I could look after it until the owner is found. I ward my cabin against trespassers.

Isn't that how the ocean works? Bigger fish eat smaller fish? And smaller fish probably eat... seaweed?
[Ocean food chain!]
What else would there even be to eat in the ocean?

Yes- You're probably mostly right. [He tilts his head.] It's probably something like small fish or organisms like krill or shrimp.

Don't we have to turn this thing in for the bounty?
no subject
His hands drop.]
Ahh... Did I ... Go a little overboard?
[A LITTLE?]
no subject
Yeah. You overdid it so much you made it a slimy smear.
[Water bucket dumped over his head to rinse off and he shivers. It's too cold for this. But...]
Guess we could try to gather it in a bucket. Hope they didn't need it alive or intact.
[He holds out the bucket to Izuku.]
Get scooping.
[He's going to grab dry clothes for the both of them and... something else he brought along for the cold.]
