THE VOYAGE
The island itself is located somewhat far from the current location of the leviathans, though given how often they move around distance is relative. What makes it a prime location, however, is the fog that obscures it, along with the choppy waters. Not impossible to sail, but enough to make most turn away without knowing what's beyond. Not to mention, it's not on any known route, making it all the more less likely to have much travel. Even with the aid of certain Dominants to help clear away the fog, there's nothing to help soothe those rough seas, so those who are a bit sensitive to sailing may want to stay below deck with a bucket and some medicine, because it's going to be some rough sailing as Cid helps navigate through.
But once they break through the worst of it, the waters calm, the fog fades, and sunlight pours in to reveal a large, rocky island ahead with high peaks. It is a giant ring of large cliffs, making it seem as if it would be impossible to sail into. However, Cid will navigate the ship towards a certain cliff wall where a large waterfall cascades over the side, emptying into the ocean. He'll direct the ship straight towards it, and with the sails lowered, Benedikta will step up like a peacock showing off its plumes, her sisters in tow. The two wind egis take to the air while she remains at front of the deck, and with a single twirl of her wrist, a violent, churning gale forms where she stands along with two more above. It's enough to part the water as they pass through, swirling it within the winds. Everyone had best shield themselves lest they want to get splashed on the way! It won't take long, just less than a minute for the whole length of the ship to cross through, until they are now inside a giant, expansive cavern big enough to house several large ships and even smaller ones with hints of coves that could perhaps hold more.
Those who can conjure flames or light, including Cid with his lightning, will cast their magic outward to help illuminate it all, and Cid will point out what look like ancient stone lanterns lining the walls. Directing the lights towards them will help provide a more stable light source, and now they can more fully see the full expanse of the cavern. Eventually they reach a large shore that has what looks to be the remnants of an old pier and more torches and lanterns to be lit. Only after setting anchor and securing the ship will everyone be able to disembark with Cid's cheerful words to guide them.
"Going to need a bit of fixing and clearing out, but I think this place will do nicely. Just be careful and keep your phones on. We'll need to map this place out so mark everywhere you go and try not to get lost." A grin. "Unless you wish to become a more permanent fixture of the place."
As for those who may ask how the hell he even learned of the island and its location, he'll just shrug and say he "found some interesting records" and thought it would be fun for them to try and explore. Now go on, get to exploring!

I. CAVERNS
If it hadn't already, it will be made immediately clear that people once inhabited the area, the developed dock and leftover remains of items showing signs of frequent use in the past. However, it's not much of a "recent" past. While not much is left behind, the cool atmosphere in the area has managed to preserve the crates that house lanterns, ropes, and other objects that will look as if they are from a time where things were not so technologically advanced, but not primitive, either. There are tools, ropes, replacement lanterns, and other common items that would have been used around ships, but the area is otherwise cleaned out. Whoever used to live here has not been around for some time.
Further exploration will reveal several tunnels that lead to this particularly large "docking cave," but only a select few have old sconces where torches or lanterns used to hang while the rest do not. Following the marked tunnels will lead to various places. Some are short and end in large caves that were once used for storage. But one particular tunnel will lead deep into the cliffs and reveal an expansive cavern that has remains of a small underground city. Sunlight will pour through various large openings in the high cavern ceilings, providing some light to help venture through, though torches and lanterns are still recommended. Perhaps housing a hundred people or so, there are rough stone buildings but most are carved into the stone walls. Investigation will reveal that some have caved in or faced some other kind of destruction, though it's unclear if that was what prompted the original inhabitants' departure or if it happened long after their disappearance. There are no remains and very little personal goods left, but there are some items hidden or buried somewhere in the ruins. Perhaps they could provide some insight.
One particular find will be signs of worship towards the gryphons that inhabit the island. There are many relics in their image and small shrines within the houses, and there is at least one temple dedicated to the beast. Not to mention countless feather motifs found within the stone carvings.
There are numerous other tunnels and caves that surround this particular area, and tunnels that will circle all the way around the entire island, though that may take days if not longer to explore. With plenty of caves, grottos, more secret coves, and exits to the inner island to find, everything is open to any interesting discoveries. Just beware that some may lead to dead ends, natural traps, and hostile creatures that have made their homes there. The original people who used to live here would have also placed traps, so for those who want an old ruin cave adventure, that's possible.

II. INNER ISLAND
Within the island are numerous pockets of dense forests both large and small, some only reachable either through certain tunnels from within the cliff caverns or climbing over and down large hills and cliffs. With tall trees, many different kinds of birds have made their homes here, some that can't be found anywhere else due to the island's isolated location. Other animals include deer, wild pigs, rabbits and other small mammals, foxes, turtles, snakes, and a variety of lizards. The gryphons are the largest predatory animals, though they mostly hunt the deer and large tuna and other fish in the water. There is a variety of vegetation with a number of wild fruits, vegetables, and herbs that can be harvested from the local flora as well, and there may be some island bees to produce honey.
Fresh water is plentiful via numerous streams that flow throughout the island, connecting to the underground pools within the cliff caverns or the large lake hidden in one of the forests. There are also some waterfalls that flow into small pools that can be used for swimming. Some streams will empty directly into the caverns through large openings that create a cavern waterfall into the underground water below. Finally, on the eastern side of the island, there is a stretch of beach that has formed from where the ocean water flows through a hidden, underground opening beneath the cliff walls to form something of a private inner beach. It's shallow, clear, which makes it easier to fish and just relax.
While there are some fields within the forest, the flatter slopes and plateaus of the cliffs provide larger fields of flowers and space for potential farming. There are even some places located near the bottom of the cliffs that show signs of past farming, likely from the tribe that once inhabited the island. While there are some irrigation systems and even a water mill, all will need some repairs and improvements given how much time has passed since it was last inhabited.

III. CLIFF TOPS
High up on the high cliff peaks and plateaus are numerous rooks and aeries that are home to the gryphons, powerful, majestic creatures that have made this island their home. There are other large birds such as eagles and albatross that roost among them, along with some smaller animals and reptiles that can make their home there. Wild cats and some mountain goats can also be found making their homes along the slopes. Murals from within the cave suggest that wyverns may sometimes stop by during their travels, but the gryphons are the primary inhabitant of these high places. Although mostly barren and rocky at the top, there are unique trees and flora that scatter the peaks while the slopes are more abundant in plant growth. Perhaps there are some special herbs could be found growing that could be used for varying purposes.
The gryphons themselves won't bother those who manage to navigate their way onto the island, however it's a different matter if anyone tries to approach them. They are extremely territorial and will show hostility and aggression to those who venture too near up to their nests. However, should anyone manage to earn their trust, they can become fierce allies to help defend the island. Murals within the cave depict how the people who once lived here did once revere them, so perhaps giving tributes or helping them when they are sick or injured will help build trust. Their nests can also be threatened by snakes, large lizards, and even opportunistic birds that dare to try and hunt their eggs or young hatchlings.

IV. WILDCARD
Congratulations, everyone, the Hideaway crew now have their very own island called, "The Roost." The log lasts for the entire month, and once everything has been initially explored and scooped out "construction" can begin or whatever else people may want to do with the island. Feel free to make up whatever you want, whether it be a location, creature, plant, or whatever else might be cool so long as it fits. Characters can also claim whatever house or building or mark a new place for themselves. If a space is needed for a library or a workshop or bathhouse or whatever, boom it exists. There are NPC crew members both human and animalkin alike, mostly to help with sailing the ship, so feel free to use them as well.
Cid has plans to make this a fully operational independent base, so eventually workshops and farming fields will be made. Maybe even a chocobo ranch?? This is so should they ever need to "hide away" for whatever reason, they'll have a safe place to go and be self-sufficient for an extended period of time. Due to the location, Cid will recommend everyone to get their Ring of Returning to Level 3. So go grab yours from the Rewards page if you haven't already!!
For now this is closed to just the crew, but after this month it can be open to friends and CR! All threads in the log are worth 12 points since this is considered a "special quest" for the crew. Threads made outside of the log but are related to the island exploration/happenings will also count for the full 12 points!

Cidolfus Telamon
A) At the "docks." One of the most important things will be securing the docks so that the ship and any other boats they may bring in aren't damaged. He's also staring at the lanterns and the waterfall, musing a bit.]
Hm... Need to implement a shield of some kind for the ships... But better to figure out a more mechanical way of dealing with the waterfall.
[Just in case something happens with anyone's magic or something, or at the very least something that requires as little of it as possible.
B) Defenses. There are old traps and such already around, but they're going to need new ones, so while Cid goes through the tunnels he'll be considering what kind of extra defenses they can put in in the off chance either some creature or unwanted people come in. So don't mind him as he deliberately triggers a trap and then proceeds to study how they set it up as well as how to improve it.
C) The ruined city. Now this is a sight he's familiar with, and while he didn't necessarily choose the island because it was reminiscent of the original Hideaway, it may have played some part. After all, easier to reuse something built than having to build it all from scratch.]
Needs a bit of fixing up, but should do nicely.
[Stepping on a water puddle, he looks up at the large "skylights" in the cavern ceiling. He knows a certain bird will enjoy them, but...]
Need to figure out a decent way to cover those holes, especially if we have those gryphons around...
[Anyway, if anyone wants to just walk around and find some fun things, feel free to join him. He'll be poking his way through and organizing places for people to leave any relics or artifacts they find.
D) Wildcard. Anything else is open! Even exploring out in the forests, which Cid will also be interested in because gotta start up some fields and such.]

Those were some of her favourite days.
And perhaps... this is her way of trying to make up for the ones that could have been.
At least they make good time on the hike, coming up to one of the higher plateaus while the sun is still above their heads. One high enough where Benedikta can feel the wind at long last, brushing through unimpeded by the trees and cliffs that surround the island.]
I am sure you could use a rest, hm, old man?
[She motions to the steeper incline that will lead them up there.
Of course, she could too. It's not every day that she does this sort of thing by foot rather than by air.]

I've hiked farther and longer than this within a day, I'm not out of breath yet.
[Since he, you know, walks. So there's just a bit of smirk as he eyes her.]
However, if you'd like a little break I won't mind oppose.

Cover them completely, or something that can open and shut?
[He is carrying a sketchbook openly and already doodling Ideas. Cid he is so excited.]

Something that can open and shut. I know Benedikta would want to be able to fly freely through them, so the less obstruction and the easier they can be opened the better.

[She's decided to take a peek at what Cid is currently doing after investigating whatever mechanical noises could be heard in the tunnels. Guy's straight up setting off traps like there's no tomorrow! The heck bro?
The presence of traps is still interesting, however. The people who lived here prior really did not want any visitors intruding, it seems! Well, that and taking any potential treasure they might have. Gotta think like a pirate, Enty!]

B but also fish pool
Today he's deigned himself to help Cid with disarming more of the traps across the multitude of tunnels that wind their way through his place. Alhaitham is pretty sure this is gonna be a perpetual work in progress given how big this place is, but he supposes they've got time...]
Have you thought about the possible locations to set these up after they've been rearmed?
[Or remade, or improved, whatever. The point is that having defenses would be good and he knows that Cid is well aware of it too, so best to cut to the chase.
Also, given that they're in the tunnels today with little to almost no ventilation, Alhaitham has opted to be down here without his cape, leaving his upper half with just his fitted, sleeveless shirt. And while that usually doesn't mean anything, he and Kaveh have been... incredibly busy with one another, and that combined with Alhaitham's complete lack of shame means that all of the hickeys that isn't covered by said shirt is right out there in the open to be seen, of which there is a lot.
If Alhaitham is in anyway bothered by this, he does not show it at all, instead just frowning down at another trap that he'd just deactivated with his sword, seemingly in thought.]

Kaveh
too many promptsA. The Long Voyage
Now, Kaveh's not particularly used to long sea journeys, but he adapts pretty well to them. Even so, for someone so insistent on helping, he's not involved in many chores outside the kitchen and the ship's garden.
Why?
It has to do with the large green lump of seasickness he's taking care of, that's why.
Even when Kaveh is doing chores, a vaguely Alhaitham-shaped puddle isn't far away, and so Kaveh has taken to either doing things on the top deck (he thought fresh air might help) or in his cabin, with the door open if anyone needs to find him...or wants to check on the critically ill.]
[B. Cavern Exploration / a font of inspiration
Of course, once they're docked in the caves, Kaveh is beside himself with excitement, practically vibrating with the desire to start exploring and mapping things. He goes from room to room to room with Mehrak, scanning the area, and at some point he's gotten hold of a sketchbook and started doodling, part recording the murals and part sketching...something? He's not paying terribly much attention to what's going on around him, so it might be useful for someone to collect the architect in hand before he stumbles into a trap.
Of course, if all goes well, he'll be approaching the crew throughout the month, with a very important question:]
What do you need to be comfortable in a home?
[C. Aboveground / this week on the discovery channel
Of course, Kaveh's not content to explore the caverns alone, so eventually makes his way up top to look around at the flora and fauna there in the sunlight. He's not hard to find up here, eventually always returning to the fields or the shade of a large tree, furiously scribbling away or, more likely, having dozed off in the sunlight.
...There's usually some kind of animal napping with him. Foxes, the rabbits, sometimes a turtle--they'll scatter at someone else's approach, but apparently, Kaveh's shaped like a Friend. In particular, three of the foxes have taken to following him around, and might start begging him and anyone near him for snacks. Has...has he been sneaking them treats?
If you don't catch him napping, you can find him near the waterfalls--once he's satisfied with the water's freshness, well, it's dusty work on the island, so he and his shorts are here to knock the dust off and feel refreshed! He won't mind the company if you don't.]
[D. Clifftop / The inevitable fate of a disney princess
This was probably a predictable outcome for Kaveh.
See, he's been very, very careful about mapping the exact boundaries of the clifftop territories (and has been taking notes on which gryphons seem to patrol where) but what Kaveh really wants--really really wants--is to get close enough to really draw the gryphons. Which is what leads us here, to Kaveh sitting at the bottom of the cliff with some grilled fish on sticks, his sketchbook, and a dream.
This is going to go hilariously poorly for someone. The real question is if it will go poorly for Kaveh, the gryphons, or whoever is trying to stop this nonsense.]
[E. Wildcard
Not feeling any of these? Make up your own or hit me up on discord or at
[NOTES: for all prompts but especially the ship and cavern prompts, you may choose to have Alhaitham also involved for a three person thread! If you want to coordinate something, just ping me and/or Taso on discord!]
let's start with C
Anyway, that's all things he can attend to later. Right now what has his attention is also his senior, except he's currently dozing underneath a tree with three all too familiar looking foxes curled up at his side. Of course, its impossible for said three foxes to actually be the same species as the ones out in Sumeru's deserts, but there's no denying the uncanny resemblance.
So even though they're just lying there doing nothing at all Alhaitham frowns and attempts to nudge them away with his foot. Shoo foxes, go away and stop accosting his senior.]

Comfortable? A place to lie your head down at night would be the first thing I would have thought of.

Hello, Kaveh. [He approaches with a small wave.] I see you've been finding projects already.
[What is he up to! Meanwhile, the restless gryphons catch Joshua's eyes and they widen in wonder.]
Those creatures... they're magnificent.

[ Dion blinks a few times at the question before he shakes his head slightly. ]
I...don't really know. I haven't given it any thought, actually.
[ He also hasn't had a proper home in a long time. ]

eizen
[setting out on an adventure to find a place to truly call their own home here feels nostalgic as hell. eizen himself searched long and hard for that till he finally found it with his crew back home. sure, they never had much of a base since they had to keep moving, but it was still home.
cid's parting comment receives a grin from eizen.]
You heard the captain. Let's get to it. Anyone who feels up for doubling their odds of death can head out with me deeper into this place.
[this whole lot makes for decent company. it's precisely why eizen fully plans on making it clear that his company tends to not be the luckiest company. he can go at things well enough alone but, hey, strength comes in numbers and keeps things more interesting.]
And watch where you step. Traps aside, there could be loot in here that won't be worth a dime if it ends up getting stepped on.
[ok listen. cave GREAT. but loot BETTER. and relics BEST.]
b. caverns - temple.
[ruined areas like this are marvels in their own right. even if they end up lacking any actual treasure, the history lurking in every corner makes it all worthwhile. most pirates may not share that view, but eizen's not exactly the standard pirate.
wandering around and studying the structures evenly leads him to the entrance to a very distinct building.]
Looks like a temple. [he comments to whoever's with him while reaching out to touch a pillar.] Probably to whatever bird deity they made all the reliefs and altars to. Could have stuff worth checking out deeper in.
[thus eizen starts walking forward toward it. anyone who steps with eizen and walks forward will have a chance to witness as the reaper's curse takes hold. as eizen walks, he kicks a pebble. said pebble then sails through the air and hits a piece of loose debris on a pillar. said piece of debris tumbles onto the floor and rolls. said debris then stops on a random tile. said random tile then dips and a clicking sound echoes through the air. seconds after said click, right where eizen and whoever's with him are standing, a hole opens up under their feet.
eizen's eyes go wide.]
Shi--
[and congrats! you're both in a pit.
luckily, there's no spikes or deadly snakes or the like. unluckily, there's sewage. lots of ancient, stinky sewage. good news it's not a trap; bad news is it's part of some sort ancient sewage drainage system.]
c. wildcard.

B - three nerds in a hole.
[Kaveh's trying to look on the bright sides here. Mehrak caught his sketchbook so it didn't get wet. He doesn't have to build sewer pipes. He...
Oh, archons, it's slimy. Alright, first order of business--]

Caverns!
[Asthma maybe? But that was blood, wasn't it? If she could see it, then that was totally blood he just wiped away! Should this guy really be here in these dusty caves? Enty doesn't know, but is rather certain the answer is probably no!]
Maybe we should get you outside and some fresh air.

Aye, knowing when to take a break is what makes the difference between a good sailor.
[although he'll take that break, eizen won't be dipping his feet in. he'll take a seat a bit aways from the edge and a short distance from joshua. him and water don't mix all that well, which is hilarious considering his choice of occupation.]

Guess the first order o' business will be to get the dust and yuck out before I tackle the waterfall curtain, eh? Can't have you in here coughin' up a storm if we're going to be in a hideout here.
