two 🔧 it's a pirate's (birthday) life for me
Who: Everyone who knows Cid!
Status: Open
Where: The Enterprise II on Eltrut, long before Cid becomes The Most Wanted Man
What: YO DAD, IT'S YA BIRTHDAY
Warnings: Probably? If people get drunk, or make out... but probably pretty general here.
Under the pretext of "I need some supplies" and Benedikta keeping Cid busy for any and all party business, and the help of Kaveh for some money to get said supplies, the Enterprise II is ready for a party! Another shellphone alert will have gone out to everyone but Cid with a time and place and a note that if you know Cid? Show up! Even if it's been a very brief meeting, it's likely Cid would remember you anyway; he's just Like That. Come for singing happy birthday, stay for some cake and dinner!

THE FOOD
Styled like what you'd find in one of the many taverns dotting Eltrut in a large buffet-styled table is plenty of tavern food and some casks filled (and marked appropriately) with alcohol and non-alcoholic mead, wines, and punches, straight from the Minstrel and Cask. Larger casks are found around the main area as well holding the same.
The cake itself is styled like a night in Waloed, long before any issues arose, almost as if taken straight from memories. Inside is a chocolate cake with some light lavender flavouring, and for those who want some lighter fare, some of the same cake has been made into cupcakes with mini lightning bolt-shaped cookies with some differing decor.
OUTSIDE
Outside has plenty of seating on the deck, tables, and places to watch the hustle and bustle of Eltrut, with some balloons hanging from some high-up strings above everyone's head. At night, the balloons will be lit up to look like stars, and the boat will pull out from harbor to at least circle the main island slowly. There aren't really any places for people to sneak off to (and if Mid catches you trying to break into crew quarters... so help her she'll tell her dad) but people can enjoy the sea breeze and some drinks under the stars.
As sort of a centerpiece is a small potted tree with many branches, and slips of parchment with ribbon ties, and quills for writing to act as a guestbook but also a memory tree. Even if you haven't known Cid for too long, you can still write something nice!
Overall this is very much a mingle post! Drink, eat, be merry, and wish Cid Telamon a happy birthday!

So he's over there, looking it over with that amused shine in his eyes and just chuckles at Jill when she approaches.]
I was wondering why you were asking. So you were also part of this, were you?
no subject
Guilty as charged. [And if the grin playing at her lips say anything, she's not one bit repentant about it either. He can get revenge on her own nameday, not that anybody but the Rosfield boys know what it is.] You wondered, but thankfully didn't push too much. If I had let anything slip, I'm confident Mid would have introduced me to the bad end of her hammer.
Though I did feel like I gave up to easily at the end there, only because I felt like I asked anything else, you'd sniff it out. And that is how you ended up with that.
[On her last word, she points towards the tower of cheese, still unmarred by any daggers wielded by the intoxicated, but probably not for much longer.]
no subject
Honestly I think it came out for the better. Is this really all cheese?
no subject
Except for the flowers and fruit, of course. It's quite a bit, but unlike regular sweets, it'll only get better with age. Quite like a certain young man I know.
[The grin remains on her fact as she tips her head towards Cid, indicating that so-called young man is right in front of her.]
no subject
You flatter me, my dear.
[Though her words only remind him of a thought that's been wriggling around in the back of his mind, but he just smiles and looks back to the tower of cheese and meats.]
But it'll be a waste if it's just there as decoration. What's the best way to cut into this—just take the knife to it? I almost feel bad ruining it.
no subject
I assume like one would with any other wheel of cheese.
[Shrugging, Jill looks the tower up and down and then tilts her hear back towards Cid.]
Or have you lost your skill with a blade in recent days?
[Has Benedikta softened him?! Doubtful. The idea is too absurd to even think about.]
no subject
I'll have you know my skills are as sharp as ever. However, I doubt we'd want me to take my sword to it.
[He finds the knife and rubs his chin as he considers where he should cut.]
Are they all the same or different types?
no subject
[Though she hopes he doesn't just whack at the thing like an unseasoned page in the bailey. At that rate, Cid might as well tear a hunk off with his bare hands and shove it into his mouth.]
Different types. [Though if he asks her which one is which, Jill couldn't tell him. She just asked the cheesemonger for whatever would count as special enough for the occasion and big enough to stack.] I could have went with matching wheels, but I decided I could at least go the extra mile for your nameday.
[And for a man who gave her the idea that a second chance at life was possible.]
no subject
Even better. In that case... Suppose I should just take a slice of everything, eh?
[And he'll start with the larger wheel at the bottom first, though it's a harder cheese since it was used as the base. Takes a bit of oompf, requiring another hand to force the knife down that otherwise cuts cleanly through.]
This must be a hard cheddar with how tough it is.
no subject
Is that a complaint I hear? One summer older and already complaining about your lack of strength?
[That is some sass coming from the usually polite lady. Cid's presence seems to bring it out of her.]
no subject
Wow.
He just turns to her with an incredulous look before he scoffs.]
And is that really how you treat your elders? A few months as a corsair and already showing lack of respect.
no subject
[She gives him a playfully dismissive wave of her hand. Go ahead, continue cutting the cheese, Cid. Pun intended.]
no subject
And isn't Clive in charge of that? I'll have to give him a stern talking to.
[And one more hmph! and that cheese slice is finally cut. Clearly they just need a better knife—]
no subject
[If she was a fellow man, she'd give Cid a hearty clap on his shoulder to celebrate his success. Instead, she gives him a mischievous smile that twinkles in her grey eyes.]
Ah, there we go. Now was that so hard?
[Says the woman who can't even help Cid with her bum arm.]
no subject
[And he's also going to give her a little look before slicing it up into smaller pieces to put on a plate for her.]
I should send you to the brig for such an attitude.
[Except he won't. He finds it honestly amusing from Jill.]
no subject
[The smile remains on her face, but just grows a little bigger.]
You wouldn't dare. Clive would stage a mutiny on the ship.
no subject
[Loopholes, loopholes everywhere.
And a snort.]
Well if he wants all the responsibility, then by all means he can have it. I can just sail off somewhere else and try that "retirement" thing.
[Annnd smirk. What now, Jill.]
no subject
Oh, now you're accepting of your elder years enough to considering retirement? You can't have it both ways, Cid. Either you're still spry or you're about to give Harpocrates a run for his gil.
[Can't have your cheese cake and eat it too.]
no subject
Ever heard of "early retirement"? But I suppose an extended vacation could work just as well.
Either way, Clive will have to take charge. I do hope you'll continue to support him.
