[While Joshua wouldn't call himself a particularly superstitious kind of person there is something about ghosts and spirits that picks his interest. Having spent much of his younger life with his nose buried in books he finds the tales and stories fascinating. So, seeing the ghosts real as day in front of him is almost a ... delight.
One of the roly-poly ghosts seems to have picked Joshua as a target today. Instead of sneaking up on him, Joshua has the small round ghost following him around like some sort of inflated balloon.]
Well. Hello, little one. Curious, aren't we?
[He reaches up to almost touch the ghost but he doesn’t quite do so. Something about how it peers at him so readily is a bit peculiar too.
Care to play with ghosts with him?]
[🐦 b. even woodier rarities; eltrut island]
[There's something a bit relaxing about simply planting trees. He's planted about a row of three saplings so far and he’s sure that he will be able to plant more. It somehow relaxes Joshua to do so even if he has no power over how fast or well they might grow. He might be able to warm the soil so the autumn's chill doesn't hurt them? He’s not sure.
Joshua is busy crouching down to plant another lemon tree sapling with a small wistful smile on his face.]
If it weren’t for the direction of my life, I might have enjoyed being a part-time botanist.
[He will be happy to have someone join him for tree planting. And maybe sharing the wine as a reward as well.]
[🐦 c. fowl language; elah conservatory]
[Now here is a quest that Joshua is very interested in. Ever since hearing word that the paladins have an entire conservatory full of creatures, relics, artifacts and more... He's wanted to see it. But being on the Stormbringer has made that difficult. Once he hears of the dare to sneak into the conservatory Joshua takes it upon himself to try just that. If only to see the creatures inside. And surely not tell his brother about this...
He can be found on the outskirts of the building, having snuck in with a blue cloak around his shoulders and the hood up. He tries to appear like a paladin scholar who might be travelling from far away. He just hopes his acting skills are up to par.
Joshua would be happy for any other corsairs to join him in sneaking in. Any paladins are more than welcome to catch him in the act.]
[🐦 d. wildcard]
[Feel free to toss anything else you might need with Joshua down here. He can often be found browsing shops in Nogard or reading books on docks or on the Stormbringer. I am also open to any bounties or bottle messages. Yo can find my ooc plotting post here for more or find me atmichrure!]

[Nanaki huffs, his ear flicking as he looks the man over. It's true, he doesn't seem to be a vandal... but it's still suspicious he's here.]
What kind of information are you looking for, that would make you sneak around at night to get?
no subject
Considering it is illegal for most visitors to explore the conservatory I had little choice.
[Since... most corsairs aren't allowed in. Question yourself, why is knowledge so heavily guarded?]
I'm looking for information on ... a cure of sorts.
no subject
A cure?
no subject
Yes. There's ... a sort of breathing sickness that I deal with daily. I was hoping to find any information I could to perhaps ease my symptoms.
no subject
[Hmm... that does sound rather serious. He tunes his ears to the young man, doing his best to listen to his breathing. Nanaki pauses, considering these words, before he settles into a less-defensive posture and one that's more receptive.]
I don't know many plants here by name yet, but there is a section of the conservatory that's dedicated to housing plants with medicinal properties. I could take you there to see if there's something that could help.
no subject
The medicinal gardens are an excellent place to go. He could find something to help ease his breathing when it does act up... There has to be something.]
I would greatly appreciate that. With the assurance that I won't cause any further disturbances.
no subject
Alright. Then come with me. And stay close.
[Partly so Nanaki can keep an eye on him, and partly because it's dark and he doesn't want the man to get lost.]
no subject
[Joshua will follow. Although he does spark a curious look at Red's feline-like body. A beast that is sentient enough to speak... That flickering tail of fire is just as curious.]
I would hate to assume. Are you a working paladin here?
[And more than just a creature living in the conservatory?]
no subject
You would assume right, for the first time. Most here are quick to assume in the other direction. But I am one just like you, pulled from my home to this strange place. The other Paladins have at least recognized that I'm not just some wayward pet, at least.
[He sounds a bit sour, but it's not directed at Joshua; rather, at those who see him as little more than a savage beast.]
no subject
I would not blame anyone for thinking the latter the first time they meet you. Luckily, you spoke to me as any other man would. And I would like to think that I should treat others as I would like to be treated at first glance.
[Joshua nods. He is just a polite boy and it paid off.]
no subject
[It’s a sad fact, unfortunately, but it’s also a sign of how Nanaki will respond to others. If they treat him as an equal, he does the same in kind. If not? Well, then he doesn’t mind being a bit short with them.]
Since you’re one who’s willing to listen, I’ll offer some advice; most humans only care about appearances. If you look beyond that, you can catch what others will miss. I’d say to use that to your advantage, but something tells me you’ve had some experience.
[How else would be have made it this deep into the Conservatory without being caught? Honestly Nanaki’s impressed.]
no subject
Sound advice, either way. [Joshua quirks a small smile.] I did happen to make it this far. But I thank you for also giving me a second chance. You are kind.
[He looks at his hands. He's really not made for the more sneaky part of being a corsair.]
no subject
[He says the words completely serious... yet the way his tail swishes in amusement gives away the humour of it. Though after a brief pause, he glances back at the young man.]
You seem pretty honest, for a corsair. You might not convince those who are from this world, but those from other worlds like ourselves aren't completely incapable of being reasonable. Most of the ones who make up their ranks understand honour. I'm sure you'll be able to work something out with them, too.
no subject
[Joshua stumbles over his words for a moment. Never interrupt a beast's meal- as they say??]
To be honest, at times I feel out of place with most corsairs. Mostly for that entire reason. While I believe in living in a world that's free and I want to conduct myself in a way that my father would be proud...
[He clears his throat.]
My apologies, I didn't mean to be so forthcoming.
no subject
I respect the Paladins for their honour and sense of justice. But truthfully, they have far too many rules for my liking.
[It's a small sentence, but one that, hopefully, will offer some solace to Joshua. A little comfort that he isn't alone with questioning his own armada since arriving here.]
[He soon pauses, tail swishing as he looks up at some fresh-smelling herbs that tickle his nose.]
We're here.
no subject
But they arrive so Joshua nods politely.]
Thank you. So, it is true... The paladins do have a vast collection of information and supplies.
[And ... it's no surprise why this place has corsairs trying to steal from it.]
no subject
I don't know about information, but as for supplies, the conservatory hasn't been lacking. We've been asked to guard it to keep people from looting it and misusing what's inside.
[It's the same he's seen before; one side has, while the other lacks. Conflicts were bound to arise.]
[Nanaki gives Joshua a careful look before he moves to lay down sphynx-style on the path.]
If you promise to not take more than what you need, I see no problem in you using what you can here.
no subject
Thank you. If anything... I only wish to look.
[So he starts exploring the collections of herbs and plants growing and the rows of books and other materials that might be available. Anything that might relate to healing or relieving a terrible cough that Joshua carries with him. He might look a little lost in thought as he does so. Then he mutters,]
If only I had time to read everything in the libraries back home as well ...
no subject
What is the nature of your illness? Perhaps I can offer some advice on what to look for.
🎀
It's complicated. It's a sort of illness that no home remedies can cure. It affects my breathing and my strength on the worst days.
[He sighs... He's not sure he can say more right now. For now, Joshua will browse the books and pick out a few on ancient healing practices. But for now, that's all he finds...]
If it is alright I'll take the time to read these today. And then perhaps I can come another time and discuss it with you more.
