WINDED ELTRUT

It only takes a few hours for Garuda's storms to fade, carried away when she was chased off by Ramuh, but the consequences of her madness remain for days after, on Eltrut especially. The poor turtle is recovering after keeping up its shields for as long as it did, so he will remain by the island for just a little while longer. Not to mention, the mermaids have asked for help, so best that he takes it easy for a bit. There is a lot to be done in repairing the docks, cleaning the town and the forests, and helping creatures back into their homes.

🔨 Repairs. Time to get to work! Much of the docks were destroyed from the wave, so Eltrut is asking anyone who can wield a hammer to assist in rebuilding them. Those who cannot or would rather help in other ways can go help by collecting wood, and there is certainly no shortage of that. Why not kill two birds with one stone (too soon?) by cleaning up the uprooted trees that have landed all over the Leviathan's shell by bringing the pieces back?
🪹 Rebuilding the Nests. Some of the birds who had been under Garuda's thrall have been displaced from their homes in the forests, either by their own destruction or from the winds. They cannot clean it all up by themselves, so they will need others to help calm them and guide them back into the forests, as well as clean up the trees and help restore their nests. They will no doubt appreciate them being prettier and more comfortable than before, so decorating them with feathers and the like will go a long way in repairing the relationships with them. In return, they will reward people's efforts with leftover plumes from Garuda's wings that they have found. (They are a one-time only use, with minor healing properties.)
🌪️ Wind Egis. Garuda's rage still lingers, and with it, some of the Wind Egis that attacked Eltrut remain, and they are hiding in the forests. Though they are significantly weaker now, these Egis will use powerful wind magic, as well as their claws, to protect themselves, and they are weak to piercing weapons and lightning magic. Find them and destroy them for good.
🐢 Happy Turtle. Eltrut is feeling down after what happened and could use some good vibes. Not only was everything on his back ruined, but his favourite island is, too. Help cheer up the turtle by planting new trees together around town and in the forests, and working together with the Bird Folk to make special turtle shaped buns for him to boost his spirits. He will also appreciate people cleaning his shell with giant brushes—they also work for relaxing head massages, too!

The Bird Folk of Eltrut who had been victim to Garuda's magic feel terrible for what they have done, and will be helping with all of the above as a way to help boost their—and everyone's—morale. They will mostly be volunteering with cleanup around town, and some of them have set up shop to sell what wares they have to help fund repairs for shops and homes that were damaged in the winds and flood. Anyone who has a knack for crafting is welcome to join in on making jewelry, art, food, leather, candles, etc. to sell!

ROTAGCORC REVISITED

Although Rotagcorc was able to avoid the brunt of Gardua's attack, the island still has its own problem recovering from the last attack from the turtle hunters from Krahs a few weeks ago. There are still many turtles injured and they are working to refortifying the island as they are worried about the safety of the young tortoise leviathan, Esiotrot. However, they are also happy to welcome those who once helped protect the island, giant pots of their special gumbo stews always cooking along with other tasty food. The style is similar to the Cajun and Creole cuisines, so there is some version of jambalayas, dirty rice, various seafood dishes with fish and oysters, and some traditional desserts such as beignets, puddings, pecan pies, and more.

Those who are curious about the young leviathan will have a chance to meet and interact with it, however it cannot communicate and is heavily guarded by the locals. Still, despite being as large as a small house, it will allow anyone who manages to pass the guards' approval to reach up and pet its head or touch its shell. It especially likes shell scratches! There are other ways to help gain favor from both the young tortoise and those who guard it.

🧼 Shell washing. Washing its shell, especially with a brush, will be very pleasant for the young tortoise, especially when it likes to burrow and tends to get a lot of mud and dirt that gets stuck in hard to reach places. Special soap is used and it can get really sudsy and slippery for those on the shell! (Makes for a fun water slide, though.)
🥗 Giant salad. A growing young leviathan, and a big one already, a lot of fresh greens, vegetables, and turtle peppers are needed for its diet. Usually they can provide enough in their own gardens, but the recent attacks have torn up several fields which are also in need of repair as well as reduced the number of able hands to harvest. Help gather what's available and also sail out and bring back some fresh greens and seeds to help replant.
🐢 Turtle tending. There are many turtles gathered around Esiotrot who were injured during the attack and are still recovering from the injuries. Some may never be able to return to the ocean, the damage to their shells and flippers is so severe that while they can heal, they would struggle back out in the water. Help check on bandages, administer healing tonics, apply medicinal herbs on the wounds, and provide any kind of comfort that would help improve their moods. The baby turtles will be particularly forlorn and need some extra care. Music and stories will help, and the leviathan will also enjoy hearing them.

Rotagcorc is roughly 75% swamp and marsh land, with wooden shacks and cabins all lined up along the bayous. Fortunately now much damage occurred in the villages, but the surrounding swamps have some work to be done, especially in resetting certain plant traps throughout the area. Just be careful while traversing through—the snapping turtles are still quite testy and may still see anyone as a threat. Just like before, feeding them turtle peppers will make them friendlier. In addition, new giant lily pad rafts are available that those daring enough to try can sit on and use long reeds to steer and float over the swampy waters. A few young crocodilians may try to bump the pad, however, so watch out! Be mindful of the mangrove trees as well…they sometimes shift and move around, making it easy to get lost.

🐍 Vine snakes. "Living" vines that are sensitive to movement and like a snake will wrap around and constrict anything that touches it. Those caught are strung up high and will need to be somehow pulled or cut down before they're slowly squeezed to death. The grisly remains of those who have met this unfortunate fate may still be found wrapped high up in the trees…
🌷 Giant Venus Fly Traps. Large enough to swallow a person whole, those that had their fill can now be harvested to be used for various things such as medicines and even food. Full Traps will not be hostile and can be safely cut down, but the new ones that need to be planted will be a bit "nippy." They are fortunately smaller, but still can bite a finger off if not careful.
🐸 Leapfrog. A lot of small frogs are hopping around, enjoying the flies that have come out to feast on the remaining corpses still around the swamps. However, they're also becoming a bit of a nuisance and there are requests to help catch some to either be brought back to be made into tasty fried frog legs or release them in other parts of the island. Just beware of the poison darts that are not hostile, but will not hesitate to not only secrete their poisons but spit them as well. Collecting their poisons for certain uses would be appreciated for those willing to take the risk.
🪷 Lotus Blooms. These special lotus flowers are so big one needs two hands to hold them. Fireflies like to gather around the stamen which also glow and thus are excellent sources of light. They are used like lanterns and placed in special planters that can be hung around to help light up trails. However, they are found in the deepest parts of the swamps, so care must be taken to harvest them.

One sobering aspect of the attack is the number of turtles and natives that were killed. While the corpses of the giants and shark pirates were already cast out at sea (or fed into the swamps), there are still funeral rites still underway. Some were waiting for relatives to return while time was also taken so that each fallen turtle or comrade was respectfully cared for. Cremation at sea is a common method, believing that everyone came from the sea and thus will now return to the sea.

They will appreciate any assistance in building the large ceremonial pyre rafts that are used to carry off the dead. Decorations and tributes to be added to the rafts are also appreciated. These are usually flower leis made of native swamp flowers, such as hibiscus, alligator lilies, marigolds, irises, azaleas; wood carvings of turtles, gators, and crocs; weapons specially forged to reflect those who were warriors; embroidered pennants, some symbolizing the life of the individual; and other trinkets that could be sent off with the deceased. Music can also sometimes be heard, some sorrowful, but others lively and upbeat as if to send them off in celebration.

For the turtles, they pay special homage as they are considered almost sacred, particularly since they have Esiotrot.

Afterwards, a round of drinks and food is shared as many will tell stories of epic feats, including the battle against Krahs's minions, and invite others to share. They are welcome to either share their own stories, or perhaps talk about their own deceased loved one or another story they know. The gator- and crocfolk are warriors at heart, so they will enjoy it. Sharing stories may also increase their favor and participating in wrestling bouts will surely increase one's reputation and perhaps even gain some allies—or rivals.

Garuda's furious wrath has unleashed several tidal surges, resulting in a colossal and peculiar whirlpool forming in the heart of the ocean. Its relentless power knows no bounds, dragging in ships of all sizes with an unyielding force. Once ensnared, victims are inexorably drawn into a spiraling descent into the abyssal depths below.

Yet, being dragged down into the depths doesn’t seem to drown a single soul. Anyone who is pulled deep down into the water through the whirlpool will find themselves being able to breathe and swim effortlessly. And that is because anyone entering the whirlpool will find themselves transforming into merfolk of all shapes and sizes. Legs will merge to become beautiful fish tails and everyone will sprout fins for ears and their hands webbed, made for cutting through the water effortlessly. Some might even grow tentacles, bioluminescent scales, sharp predator shark teeth, or other sea creature traits.

Once transformed, those pulled through the whirlpool will discover themselves seamlessly navigating the ocean depths, greeted by a breathtaking underwater realm. Vibrant coral reefs, intricate seaweed forests, and majestic caverns await your exploration. But most importantly, the magnificent underwater sanctuary where several merfolk tribes live and thrive. Some of the small merfolk settlements have been damaged by the severe tidal surges. Some are untouched and filled with curious merfolk ready to visit and speak with the newcomers. But not all merfolk are friendly. Some have turned cold to outsiders due to the recent deaths of their kin.

Explore the underwater haven, help the local merfolk rebuild and stay out of danger. Or don’t. It’s all about having some finny fun, after all.

⚒️ Rebuilding. As stated above, many of the smaller merfolk villages and tribes have been damaged in the recent tidal surges. Help make friends by helping them put back together their homes with whatever materials you can find. Use driftwood and seaweed paste to mend structures. Use pearls and sea glass to repair windows. And any art that can be given to spruce up the villages will be a nice bonus.
🚧Building tension. Since some of their kin have gone missing many of the merfolk are wary of the newcomers exploring around. Beware some of the more tenacious mer that will attack and fight any riftfarers out of their villages. They will be equipped with spears and harpoon guns and powerful emotion magic that could turn you angry and against your friends.
⚡ Lost magitech batteries. It wouldn’t be an underwater exploration without being able to find some lost magitech. For those who are savvy enough at searching, can uncover several buried and waterlogged magitech batteries in the grooves of the seabed or in deep dark caverns. Collect as many as possible, they may be useful on the surface. Just be careful of any curious sea life around.
🗝️ Underwater treasure. Besides lost magitech the local merfolk are happy to give others little treasure hunts to complete. Explore the dark caverns below and uncover some hidden treasure chests buried in the sand. They seem to be filled with gemstones, jewelry and gold. Find your sweetheart something shiny and pretty, won’t you mate?

🍥 Jellyfish forest. Just outside the merfolk villages is an expansive forest made out of floating jellyfish. These pretty pink creatures sway and flow with the ocean tides. And exploring the forest might prove to be a fun challenge as touching the long stringy limbs of any jellyfish will give you a little electric zap. Can you get to the other side?
🐌 Bloodthirsty leeches. Deep down below the water’s surface are several sea creatures that rely on other sea creatures to survive. There are leech-like creatures that will attach to any mer swimming by and start to drain out their blood. It’s not a painful process but leaving the leeches for too long will leave anyone feeling weak and lethargic, or worse.
🦈 Bond with dolphins. Several groups of playful dolphins are swimming all about. They are curious and smart creatures that want to play with the new merfolk around. You! They will poke and prod at you and challenge you to races. Play with them or grab onto their dorsal fins and let them take you for a ride through the ocean scene.
🦦 Playful otters. Near the surface of the ocean is a family of playful otters that are curious about the merfolk swimming down below as well. But their intentions aren’t so sweet. They will steal and grab items off of other riftfarers and try to keep anything shiny for themselves. If you find something of yours missing, you might have to chase them down to get it back.
🐙 Hugging sea urchins. The local merfolk have a strange tradition down here. They say that anyone who can successfully hug a prickly sea urchin will be given a special boon. But it’s so painful to squeeze a sea urchin, isn’t it? If you can bear the pain and give a sea urchin a little bit of comfort you will be granted a special buff that will protect you from harm for a whole day.

🧙‍♀️ Sea witch. The merfolk villages are sure to warn you about the evil sea witch that lives down below in the darkest parts of the water. They say that she’s a foul and bitter old woman who loves to see others suffer. But some of the children in the villages say that it’s not what it seems. They say that if you can give the sea witch something precious of yours that she’s nice and will grant you a wish. If you manage to find her she will do just that. In exchange for something you find precious, she will attempt to grant you a wish. Although, she doesn’t guarantee it will work.
🌿 Dead soul forest. There is something strange about the waters near the sea witch’s home. There is a dark and murky place filled with icky and browned seaweed and other thick overgrowth. Swimming through this area will leave you feeling like your energy is being sapped. Stay here long enough and you’ll find your soul being slowly sucked out of your body only for you to become a icky piece of brown seaweed yourself. Maybe ask the sea witch to restore your friends if they get stuck this way.
💌 Love potions. Oddly enough the sea witch is more than happy to sell anyone fabulous love potions for the easy cost of a handful of pretty seashells. These potions range from making the apple of your eye fall deeply in love with you to making your worst enemy your soulmate. The potions can even colour you pink! Or make your pupils change to heart shapes! If you are in need of turning the tides of your love life, she has a potion for you.
🐠 Blobfish. Peculiar little blobfish seem to thrive in these darker waters! They’re mostly harmless and look like cute squishy blobs that don’t do very much. It might be fine to toss one around like a ball or use one for a pillow. … Just beware because bullying the blobfish too much might summon a bigger, meaner fish to come after you. Fight it off!

[Getting caught in the magical whirlpool was not how Izuku had been expecting to spend a day. But he was swept up like many others, his body transforming into mer with shiny glowing scales all over his skin.

It takes Izuku quite some time to get used to using a fish tail to get around. His limbs awkward and his tail swishing back and forth wildly as he tries to get it right and swim in a straight line. But all he can manage to do is somehow swim upside down or sideways. It’s going to take him a bit longer to get it right.]

Ah- How do you... Why can’t I get my tail to move the way I want it to? This is harder than I expected it would be...

[Why does he have to be so clumsy and awkward while he tries to figure things out? It’s a mystery for the ages.

But eventually, Izuku will manage to start exploring. He’s interested in the darker caverns and sands where lost magitech batteries can be dug up. His now-clawed hands sift through the gritty sand to look for anything that could be salvaged. But he’s still sort of halfway upside down.]

[Once Izuku is better at swimming he does find his way to the darker waters while he explores. He comes across one of those strange round looking balloon fish and he thinks out loud...]

[He’ll swim over and pick up one of the blobfish and give it a gentle squish. Its large nose makes a weird wheezing noise and its eyes bulge. It’s actually so ugly and cute at the same time. just like him]

[another newly mermaid-ified person swims nearby. sporting fins and scales of a marvelous purple shade that contrasts well with his eyes, kratos finishes up taking a final practice lap with his new fishy tail. although initially startled by the changes, it took little time at all to figure out how this new form works in terms of movement.

as kratos comes to a halt, he notices izuku nearby flailing futilely about. ah, that sort of movement won't get him very far. or anywhere, really. kratos watches a moment longer before speaking up.]

You're struggling because you're trying too hard. [bluntly said.] Allow yourself to relax. Once you've stopped flailing, you'll be better able to steady yourself and right your positioning. Only when you can position yourself properly can you worry about swimming.

[Katsuki is glad no one is around to see him flounder when he first finds himself with a tail and fins.

It wasn't pretty.

But he figures it out and begins his exploration, eventually spotting a familiar head of curly green hair. One that is upside down as Izuku digs.

Katsuki swims up behind him and digs his fingers into Izuku's sides, tickling him.]

[ Oh he had been missing his own little personal swamp back at the Hotel. Alastor would say that his imitation is quite good, miles above what anyone else can do, but wouldn't deny the fact that it can never hold a candle to the real thing. It certainly takes him back! Nostalgia can be quite the powerful thing, hmmm?

Thus does he find himself navigating the bayou, typically through the use of one of those lily pad rafts. There is no sitting for him, oh no. He stands quite proudly while pushing off with a long reed like he's done this a thousand times over.

Are you lost, perhaps? Struggling with a snapping turtle? Well Alastor might be persuaded to assist. But at what cost? Or maybe you'll find yourself lucky that he is in a rather chipper mood and he'll be feeling somewhat altruistic! It's a 50/50 opportunity. ]

[ Alastor hums, looking up. The bayou is quite the dangerous place indeed. One should be alert at all times. It would seem that someone has mistaken these snakes for vines. Thus does he grin, leaning against the reed in his hand. ]

Oh my! What an unfortunate situation we've found ourselves in!

[ Otherwise, the snakes don't seem to bother him. Instead of being strung up by one of these creatures, perhaps you encounter Alastor about to be "attacked" by a snake instead? Not that it will do much good. Go ahead and try to "save" him, but his shadow is moving in a rather sinister fashion to intercept. ]

[ If anyone thought that Alastor would have a shimmering magical fish tail? Ha... Unlikely. Oh no, it is quite different. Instead what grows are tentacles, taking on a sickly greenish sheen. Spines grow from his back and well. He already has sharp teeth so that's more or less the same.

Now he has little interest in helping to rebuild. Alastor could care less about the batteries or treasure. What he is interested in is this sea witch and her power. Of course Alastor is interested in power.

A shame that there happens to be a few unhappy souls barring his exit to the village that he had been peacefully passing through.

This likely won't end well at all, hmm? ]

[It's not the fact that the vines are moving that alarm Ganondorf. Indeed, such...isn't so much normal for him, but hardly worth his concern. Nor does the maniacal grin of the red-hued fellow bother him.

It's the shadow that catches his attention.

Lost he may be thanks to these shifting trees, he trusts he can eventually find his way clear, but for the moment, his attention is on that mass of out-of-place-black, a thoughtful frown on his features as he reassess the situation.

( swamps and marshlands were definitely not on aziraphale's list of favourite places. they were too damp, too humid, and he didn't exactly appreciate any of the dangling vines. he would have elected to skip over visiting entirely, but rotagcorc was another place that could use considerable help.

and aziraphale was in need of something to do, something to keep himself busy. helping to heal the land and its creatures was a worthy distraction if there ever was one.

just as it would be to prevent a stranger from getting stricken by a serpent's fangs.

( Planting Trees Around Eltrut )

[ Garuda had done quite a number on the poor turtle leviathan. G'raha Tia is truly upset for the poor thing. He doesn't really have much in the way of cooking skills, so the only way that he feels that he can really be of assistance is by planting trees.

Shovel in hand, G'raha will be digging out places for those trees to go. Does he ever really take time to actually rest and recover? At some point he will lose the layers of clothing he typically wears, simply getting too warm for them. ]

Might I ask for your assistance bringing that tree this way?

( Shell Washing and Turtle Tending )

[ If helping out on Eltrut isn't enough, G'raha simply has to assist on Rotagcorc as well. Here he can be found helping with scrubbing Esiotrot. G'raha can be found giving it shell scratches and working hard to keep it's shell clean. Occasionally, he will be telling the young, but large, leviathan tales and stories from his home - nearly all of them featuring his companions and one particular hero that saved them all.

Otherwise, G'raha will be using his healing magicks to provide comfort and aid to those that are near Esiotrot. Minor wounds and injuries will heal in no time. But G'raha's own strength might start to waver from time to time, too focused is he on others rather than himself. ]

[ There are all sorts of magicks in the world that could give someone the ability to breathe underwater. G'raha hadn't thought that it would go to this extreme. His tail and legs have been replace with a red and white shimmering tail. The webbing between his fingers match the coloration and his nails are a fair bit longer and sharper.

Naturally he is going to go off and explore! That jelly fish forest that so many are talking about? G'raha is there, eying the jellies as if he intends to go through with it. Encourage him? Stop him? Or maybe just be there in case he gets stung with a zip zap.

G'raha will also be searching in very low places for those magitech batteries. Find him scouring the ocean floor or venturing into a dark cavern. Alone. Without assistance. ]

At G'raha's request, he grunts his assent and begins rolling the sapling over, manhandling it by the trunk and using its rootball as a pivot to make the task mildly easier.]

[ well.. being a merman certainly is something different! at first, he's thrown off balance a bit, entirely unused to having an enormous tail rather than legs, but in the end, it's no different from other forms of transformation, really - or using the soul shifting spell. it just takes a few moments to get comfortable in his new skin, that's all! once he does, he's delighted by his pearlescent scales and the gossamer veils of his fins.

on the downside, his cursed shackle is entirely visible around his neck, as well as circling the very end of his tail, but.. that shouldn't be an issue, here. he's doubtful that anyone will recognize it for what it is, though it may draw attention - if it does, he will deal with that when the time comes. for now.. rebuilding!

thankfully, this sort of thing isn't too difficult for him. he's not a master craftsman like san lang, but he can make do with the available materials. holding a large piece of pale green seaglass, he attempts to carefully fit it into an open window frame, but it's a little cumbersome on his own. ]

[ oh, an underwater treasure hunt! that certainly sounds fun. really, xie lian just wants a reason to go exploring, so with a bag woven from seaweed over his shoulder and a palm torch to light the way through the caverns, he makes his way through the twisting underwater corridors. smiling, he glances toward his treasure hunting partner. ]

Do you think we'll find anything interesting?

[ and just then, a sparkle lights up nearby, glittering under the light of the palm torch. ]

[ well. in hindsight, this.. this was probably not the best idea. a man with luck as poor as xie lian's shouldn't take chances, but.. the jellyfish forest just looked so lovely..!

he hadn't meant to swim so far in, really, he'd only been chasing a rather fetching blue jellyfish, wanting to get a closer look at its bell, but before he knew it he was caught and snagged by several stringy, elegant tentacles. yet while anyone might guess that the pain from the zaps might be severe, considering just how entangled he is, xie lian seems.. mostly fine. he's well accustomed to pain far worse than this.

unfortunately he cannot seem to untangle himself easily. he could just cut his way out, sure, but he doesn't want to damage the jellyfish - they hardly deserve to be mutilated just because he didn't have the foresight to consider that he might get stuck here. carefully, he begins to disentangle himself, but as he grows closer to the edge of the forest and freedom, he finds himself more bound up than ever. please assist. ]

Even given the few transformations she'd experienced at the hotel, this is downright otherworldly, like how she imagines traveling to the Elemental Plane of Water would be like... only one such place she'd never thought she'd ever be brave or adventurous enough to visit, and yet here she is, transformed, and swimming amongst the fishies...

It's a bit reassuring, at least, to know she's likely not the only one feeling like....... a fish out of water........ and when she recognizes Xie Lian even in this new form of his, she can't help but smile for running (swimming) into a familiar face! ]

[ He doesn't even like cleaning up his own messes, so why would he bother cleaning up someone else's? Truthfully, more than anything else, he's curious to catch up on the events that he missed just prior to his arrival. His timing couldn't have been worse — had he arrived just a few days earlier, he would've loved to square off with Garuda and test the limits of his powers, dampened though they may be.

...Something he's still annoyed about, the notion that anyone would think to limit him, but those are chains he'll have to try to break with time. For now...

For now, some punk-ass bird kids gave him the puppy dog eyes while asking for his help cleaning up some trees. How do birds even do that?! Beats him, but — whatever, it's not like he was especially busy, anyway. Gives him an opportunity to flex!

And so flex he does, in the figurative sense, walking nonchalantly back towards the dock from the forest with a bundle of downed trees hovering in the air behind him. He has his hands in his pockets, but there's no question that he's the one "carrying" them. He's also not paying a tremendous amount of attention to the clearance of the trees, and very easily might clock someone right in the head, or nearly so. ]

[ Given the regular hijinks he experienced in Hotel Caelum on top of all sorts of regular jujutsu sorcerer bullshit, being transformed into a merman is a new one. That said, as usual, he adapts quickly, as he must if he's to make the most out of taking this form. Rather than immediately contributing to any of the efforts to rebuild relationships with the merfolk, Gojo instead swims his way to the jellyfish forest, seeking danger that he can test his mettle and skill against. Even without using his jujutsu, he bets he can swim through these jellyfish without touching a single one.

...Of course, such feats aren't as much to appreciate solo, so instead, he'll wave down anyone who happens to be swimming nearby. ]

He tries to remind himself of that as he wanders, gathering some wood in his arms and going to and fro. He is on his way back to collect more wood when he pauses in seeing someone bringing more over.]

Hm. Maybe some feathers might make this feel a little softer, more comfortable.

[Plus, they were pretty. Sorey can attest to that given his own earrings for example. He gathers some feathers he has found around on the ground and adds some in weaving them through the bottom of the nest for the eggs and mother bird that might use it. To help keep them warmer, more comfortable, hopefully. He sits cross-legged on the grass, tongue poking out as he tries to focus on the nest at his lap.]

I'm not sure I'm the best cook exactly beyond having basic experience with figuring some simpler dishes, hunting and growing fruits or vegetables mostly. But uh, these buns might be simple enough? I hope. I'm sure I can help somehow.

So he sheepishly approaches the others that are working on the buns, glancing and watching, observing what everyone was up to. Not that he necessarily has much if any use for it unless there might be some earrings he might like but he takes it anyway. Maybe someone else might like it.]

( the second impromptu skinny dipping session in the middle of the rough ocean is just as awful and uncomfortable as the first. actually, maybe it's a little worse. worse because there's a sense of deju vu to it now—both the near-drowning and getting fished out the water with a big chain like some kind of fiery sea monster.

there's a sense of familiarity to touch down on this ship's deck again, to walk around a place she's walked around a thousand times before. it feels so distant, yet recent. like a dream she's had many times before. mostly karlach just feels confused and muddled. she's having conversations she has had before, being told of the same things she was told before.

she's . . . dreaming now, right?

. . . right?

before they can stop her, karlach flings herself over the edge of the ship and back into the ocean with a resounding splash. the yells after her become inaudible quickly, swallowed up by the rush of water against her ears.

this time, this time it feels new.

when she resurfaces, it's to far less sympathetic faces looking down at her from the boat. )

( rather than even attempt to explain the mess of thoughts that had been going through her head, she just makes her way back up the chain that had been thrown down for her. )

except a can-do attitude only actually take her so far. it didn't magically make her any better at puzzles than she already was. the best she could do, with any kind of confidence behind it, was figure out the general location where she should find the chest.

maybe general-general. okay, maybe with not so much confidence either.

for someone who already had little patience for puzzles on a good day and had already been trudging along the beach for a few hours, karlach was starting to reconsider her strategy. she couldn't keep wasting time on this!

but she needs her stuff back. she paid a lot of money for her fire-resistant leathers!

that's when she has a thought.

if she just dug up the entire beach, she'd find the chest that way too, right?

with a determined power yell, karlach sets to work on littering the beach with holes. )

( it had taken a little help from the locals to figure out where karlach could best help out and she had been led over to a small pool of water near esiotrot, where many of the injured turtles had gathered.

her body ran far too hot for her to just touch anything directly, but with a couple wraps of enchanted fabric around her feet, karlach made for a fantastic water heater. not hot enough to make turtle soup, but enough to create a makeshift hot-spring.

provided she doesn't put any other limbs in it. )

( just as it's important to tend to the survivors, it's also important to tend to the fallen.

karlach sits on a blanket in the sand, her tail swishing behind her, as she carves another small turtle out of a chunk of wood. they're not very good, not very pretty, and nothing to be proud of, but karlach has still been putting in her best efforts to make them.

they're meant to be burned along with the pyres, little trinkets to help protect the dead on their journey.

it's hard to say how much she believes in that, but it's a nice thought.

she turns her current work over in her gloved hand, looking at how it had gotten slightly better from her earlier ones. )

[ Sherlock wants to keep busy and not think about what happened recently. Despite his injuries, he helps with repairs especially around Cosmo Conservatory and where the golden bee bunny spirits now reside. Anyone who has spent time in the conservatory has probably seen him tending to the little critters or sketching them as he takes notes on them. ]

[ He speaks softly and offers the bee bunnies some flowers as he cleans up and repairs the area like a good beekeeper. ]

[ The reports of missing people instantly catches Sherlock's attention. Even if he wasn't desperate for a new case, he would have dropped everything for this one. His last case back home involved multiple disappearances. It was to awakened a giant destructive leviathan. The fear that something similar could be happening again here has him taking the first passage to Atnam he can get.

He is relieved that it is center around a painter's house instead of a gruesome cult. Time to gather some evidence and find out what has happened to these people. ]

[ He got hurt during Garuda's rampage, and his trusted friend and colleague isn't here to help put him back together. (And he was not going to let a stranger burn cauterize his wound.) Even if it acted to prevent infection and couldn't deliver on the greater promise, it would still be worthwhile. Sherlock hears someone approach as he struggles to roll his sleeve enough to reach his wound. ]

[ This is possibly the first time Sherlock has been on the Paladin Base, and the meadow is a beautiful sight to behold. There has to be something more which could be done than just guarding to protect these rare flowers. He tells himself he doesn't care about their symbolic nature, but that doesn't keep him from wanting to look a little closer with an intent to maybe sketch one. (No, he is not becoming familiar just in case! This is for science!)

[The encounter with Garuda has left Faris moving a bit gingerly in the aftermath. He knows he was lucky to get out of it with all his arms and legs still on and un-disembowled, but boy. Oof. Ow.

It was a bad day in a lot of ways, and surprisingly, Faris has been in a more openly civic-minded mood in the aftermath. That's why he's on the docks, hammering in planks to replace the ones ripped up, fitting new cleats, making sure everything is shipshape once more. And he can be found helping rebuild nests up a tree. He's not much one for the decorating, but it's similar enough to ropework that he's good at it.]

Hoi! [Yeah you, on the ground.] Pass me up one of those whippy branches, would you?

[Elsewhere, you can find Faris hanging around Esiotrot, with a bundle of salad greens under his arm or putting bandages on little stumpy turtle legs, singing them the song of the drunken sailor. IT'S GOT A GOOD RHYTHM, OKAY.]

[It's a whirlpool. It's a damn whirlpool.

Faris, mounted on his seahorse Tempest, feels its drag at his ankles--an all-too-familiar one. He snarls in frustration. Of all the things the past few weeks are going to chuck at him, this too?!

Well, damn the torpedoes, as they say, and turn into the spin. Faris leans forward and nudges Tempest into the pull of the maelstrom, because if they're going to do this, it'll be on their own damn terms!

But at the end of the roaring, whirling chaos is... calm. Faris feels himself floating up from Tempest's back, his lungs not feeling crushed by the weight of the ocean, and... he has a tail. A long, flame-hued, scaly tail.]

...That's new.

[It isn't long before Faris discovers the mervillage... and the problems they've been having. It's not long before Faris and his seahorse get some unwelcome attention.]

Now you just wait a second! [There's a rush of bubbles and he has to duck quickly to avoid a harpoon that bubbles through the air--water--above his head.] How can you be this hotheaded underwater? I'm here to help!

[At another time, you might find Faris and his horse exploring away from the village... searching for treasure or finding some of those magitech batteries, or hanging around the jellyfish forest and meeting some of the local sea life--hungry or curious.]

[ Oh, she recognizes this creature, and despite its rather cute (really cute), adorable, lizard-like appearance, she knows how deadly they can be.  ...Which is why she's crouched behind a wall, quickly ducking her head as it stalks a stone plaza in Nogard, debating if the risk is worth taking when she's been doing so well to be careful.  Five hundred dubloons is the reward for this quest, as well as its (deceptively ordinary, very sharp) knife, but that's not what she's here for.

No, it's its lantern.  She needs that lantern. In her world, the light within that lantern carries something quite powerful and rare, a magic she's been trying to study on her own, and if is it's just like the one in her world, then it carries... it carries--

It's only an hour past dusk, which means the area will soon be fllled with denizens seeking to celebrate a night out, making them the perfect, unsuspecting victims, if this creature is allowed to remain unchecked.  ]

[ After a successful reclamation of engine schematics a few months ago, Rem has finally found the time to study the notes further, as well as attempt to preserve them by rewriting them onto paper that's not over a century old. Why, yes, this is considered giving herself a "break" from all the restoration and repairs.

Find her by the docks on an island during the afternoon as she pours over the notes, trying to discern the faded ink upon brittle parchment by holding it up to the sun. Unfortunately, a breeze flips the paper nearly out of her hands, tearing it slightly at the corner, and she stumbles upward to catch it, barely managing to grasp it by its corner before it flies away. It's then that she notices you, and she smiles sheepishly, sinking back into her seat.  ] Who knew old, water-logged notes were so fragile? [ It's a weak, nervous attempt at a joke. She lifts a hand to her mouth, quietly coughing into her palm, clearing her throat. ] This sea is open, if you'd like to join me.

[ Among the bird-folk was one that stood out as particularly more beautiful and amazing human-like than the rest of the population.

This one wandered the forest, but the locale around the forest as well. Those not paying close attention might catch glimpses of brilliant gold flashing in the underbrush, or a great shadow bounding across the ground near the canopies. Any individuals dressed in red, sporting enough of any kind of shining metal to catch the sun and glimmer, or dressed in bright colors might just find that the rustling in the bushes that had once passed by was now coming back.

They might hear a strange whistle from one side, but the next moment, a red-and-gold blur was darting in from the other side, trying to slip in and lift whatever shiny object he could off of their person.

Those merely dressed in red, or bright colors, would suddenly be accosted by Rakan dropping from the branches, landing easily on his feet. Luckily, the look on his face was bright, exuberant, and excited with a playful curiosity. ]

And just what do you think you're doing here?

A2. Helping the birdfolk

[ Should anyone find theirselves accosted by a birdfolk still in Garuda's clutches, they might suddenly find theirself out-numbered, two-to-one. Or two-to-however-many.

Except this bird came bounding in for the other bird-person. And instead of trying to accost whomever was squaring off with said birdfolk, the golden bird slid in, just in front of the dull, plain-colored birdfolk. ]

Hey, are you watchin' this? [ Spoken, incredulously, to the one trying to help the poor, confused bird. Rather than the bird-folk that was on the defense. Because how dare whatever human/creature/individual not be watching Rakan? ]

[ Who better to help a bird than another bird? Though, poor Rakan was constantly forgetting which individual he was in the middle of helping, and picked up other tasks without realizing.

Ergo, Rakan, with a bundle of sticks in his arms, might just catch sight of someone and just.. ]

[ Dump his armful of sticks and shoots and twigs on them, then turn to skulk into a bit of underbrush nearby, seemingly fixated on something. ]

Directly near it, despite not being in season, flowers were blooming on the branches hanging nearest over the bramble of fabric, down, and sprigs. MissingStolen trinkets were strung throughout or left hanging around it. There was, likewise, a store of chocolate candies in a nearby tree hollow.

No one seemed to be home at the moment, but a quick rustle from nearby underbrush would betray something being near. ]

A5 Happy Turtle

[ Those elsewhere on Eltrut might just run into the golden bird-man sitting near the pathway leading closer to Eltrut's head.

He had recently been turned away, but not after stealing one of the guard's swords. Anyone approaching might just catch Rakan in the middle of thoroughly enjoying a round of keep-away.

Later on, however, the way was cleared and Rakan traipsed along towards Eltrut's head. Should anyone else have a similar idea, they would come upon the golden bird-man sitting, with his legs dangling over a cliff--the edge of Eltrut's shell over its head. He was sitting, calmly, with his golden cape splayed and gently glowing while he hummed softly in an unfamiliar language.

It was as soothing and warm as it was unfamiliar. It was gentle, quiet, sung almost like a summer night. The plants around him seemed to lean in closer, with some resting against the golden bird-man and his softly glowing feathers. His voice was small compared to Eltrut, even if the wind carried it, but it didn't seem to bother or deter him. He seemed, instead, to be moreso off in his own world while holding this lyrical conversation. ]

while walking, he finds someone turning to him and, with only a moment's warning, dumping a bunch of sticks into his arms. how nice. kratos eyes his newly acquired stick bundle before turning toward the one who'd shoved it all at him. asking for help is fine but at least wait for a response-- ...what is the guy even staring at? kratos quirks a brow.]

Sipping on Seaweed - Closed to Ann Takamaki

[After all the chaos that occurred in Garuda's wake Denji could use an easy going quest put up on the MANTA board to earn a few extra bucks and it just so happens the teenager got his wish upon reading over this month's assignments. A little teashop on Eltrut's boardwalk by the name of Sailor's Brew and Biscuits were looking for willing individuals to test out some new type of tea made out of seaweed of all things. Sure it sounded a little odd but it beat having to kill some other monstrosity and ruin one of his brand new shirts. Rem would be pretty upset after helping him find something he genuinely liked after his usual digs were ripped to shreds after countless tussles throughout his time here in Escordvi over the last few months.

This would be a piece of cake by comparison to everything he's been through lately, happily waltzing up the shop in question with a smile on his face ready to indulge in some weird tasting beverages. What he wasn't expecting next though was to come face to face with a rather cute girl standing at the front entrance looking a bit lost as she hesitates to go inside. Maybe she was waiting for someone or was just afraid to go in by herself? Whatever the case may be she might be interested in joining him on this endeavor if he was lucky enough. Play it cool, Denji!]

[Though she had looked a little uncertain at first, Ann brightens immediately upon being addressed, giving the boy approaching the same teashop she'd set her gaze on an easy smile.]

Hey! Uh— yeah! I still can't believe someone is willing to pay for that, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try it out. I'm just getting started around here.

[Eltrut is overwhelming in a way that honestly surprises her after how much time she's spent navigating Shibuya and other neighborhoods in Tokyo without trouble. The shift in scenery has been interesting, to say the least. She's used to finding herself in new environments, but only in the Metaverse— at the end of the trip, they always got to go home and sleep in their own beds.

In this place? Not so much. Looked like she was going to be here for awhile, so it was time to start picking up odd jobs and saving up.]

Putting seaweed in food isn't all that strange where I'm from, but I've never had seaweed tea.

[Well, for one, Tifa was not going to say no to helping out the locals in repairing the damage done by that... giant bird... and its storm that swept through Eltrut. She's been a busy bee—offering food to those whose homes and ships were damaged, assisting with the fixes around town, and trying to make the poor turtle leviathan feel better with turtle breads and head massages.

Two, Tifa was not going to pass up exploring a local mermaid settlement just off the coast of the island Eltrut had been sitting at when it all hit just a few days ago. On top of that, they would be given the magic to swim under the sea, with mermaid tails to boot—something that she only ever read about in stories and saw in movies that she would watch with Marlene. Never, in a hundred years, did she think she could actually become one...!

So, needless to say, she's been quietly giddy about that fact the whole time they've been underwater. She's trying to subdue it, because it feels a bit insensitive given the reasons that they are down there, but as she and Eustace work to put the last piece of driftwood to the side of a building, he might catch her flicking her tail about, amused, as she spins around in the water, searching.]

Oh... Was that the last piece?

[Eustace's purpose is similar to hers—after the mess that occurred the other day, he was willing to pitch in where he could, though his was mostly in dealing with the remaining harpies and elementals that remained a threat. But to be down here with mermaids...he wasn't sure what to expect, and he still feels weird with this "tail" that was more like an eel's than a fish tail like many others. It was certainly a time trying to get used to the side to side motion of his..."legs" but he eventually got the hang of it.

Now with Tifa, he just looks over at her with a slight arch of the brow as his gaze moves to her tail...

...What is she a puppy—]

I believe so.

[He looks around just in case, but after a quick swim around he once again confirms.]

I don't see anything left, so let's report back.

Giant salad

[ Hearing that the fields of food have been torn up by the winds, Orchid is out there helping to restore what she can. This might mean using some of her own power to heal a broken plant stem or simply tying back her sleeves to get her hands dirty by replanting entirely. Any that can be used and taken out are placed in a large basket. ]

There you go, good as new. [ Orchid brushes her hands together after having healed a stalk of corn - it doesn't even look like it was damaged in the first place. ]

Turtle tending

[ When Orchid is tending to the turtles that have been injured, she is so very careful with her touch. The smaller ones are placed within her lap as she tends to them, gently talking to them in a soothing voice. Sometimes she can even be found humming quietly as she gently rubs medicine on their wounds.

It's the ones that have the severest injuries that Orchid struggles with the most. She looks down at their wounds that will prevent them from going back into the ocean, back to their homes. Tears threaten to form in her eyes as she pets their heads to comfort them as they're worked on by people more skilled. ]

❀ PEARLHAVEN

[ Orchid is a little clumsy in her mermaid form, unused to having a tail, but more than that - she is a flower who is submerged in salt water. Normally, this would not be good for her, though the transformation does help with that. It doesn't prevent her from worrying a little at times. Or struggling in general with trying to swim with her new tail. Help a girl out? ]

Bond with dolphins

[ She's come upon the pod of dolphins who are eager to play with her, and Orchid is enjoying it. While the flower isn't going to be very good at racing, she can be found holding on to their dorsal fins for a ride.

Upon seeing someone else nearby, Orchid will swim over to them with a smile. ]

Come try it, they're having so much fun.

Playful otters

[ When Orchid is up near the surface to bask in the afternoon light for a little while, that's when the otters strike. One of them finds the shiny hairpin still in her hair fascinating, and plucks it away from her. By the time she's realized it's gone, the otter is out of reach. ]

You must give it back. That is important to me.

[ She takes to the water to chase after the otter, but now the cute creatures are playing a game of keep away with Orchid. They seem to find it a fun game. ]

Dead soul forest

[ There is no wish that Orchid needs granted that she would go to see the sea witch for. Any that she has, she would tell to Daqiang when he was in a good mood. Perhaps then, he'd grant it for her.

Yet something draws her there. Not to the sea witch's door, but to her garden of souls. Her hand hovers over the sickly looking seaweed, and a shudder runs through her body. ]

You're... not a plant. You're a person. Maybe I can... I can turn you back.

Every Day I’m Brusselin’

[ A potion that can help plants grow faster? Orchid is curious to see if it's as effective as her own powers, because if so, she wants it. Mostly so that Daqiang doesn't worry if she's growing a lot of plants all in one go. She knows she still has a damaged immortal root, making her very weak compared to... everyone else.

After using a few drops, a little green man pops out - scaring Orchid. ]

I didn't mean to turn you into a plant spirit! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!

[ Truthfully, Orchid has quite a few of these bugs around her as she offers up a collection of plants for them to eat. If there's anyone who wants to study them all, now would be a good opportunity. ]

[ Upon learning that this was something Kaveh had requested, Orchid took one of the mechanical butterflies to unleash upon her own garden. Each plant there has been cared for with her own energy, though before that - it was Daqiang tending to them.

She watches as it flits around the garden, quietly speaking to herself: ]
