1. settling in / nogard
a. [ Well... Sumina can't help but find a bit of humor in being conscripted into the Corsairs in spite of her personality and nurtured allergy, and when she finds their base to be situated upon something that looks awfully dragonlike, she simply has to accept that the powers that be seem to want her to lean into her heritage a little more.
Regardless, she spends much of her time after the excitement of her arrival and the ensuing shenanigans wandering about Fang and geting settled into her new housing, getting acquainted with her surroundings, and visiting local businesess. She can be found simply walking along the streets, looking rather out of place with due to her demeanor and the notably un-piratelike clothing she still wears from where she last was. It might well make her a target for others with ill-intent, but perhaps not if someone were to accompany her... Regardless, she pauses in her steps, her (half) elven ear twitching ever so slightly at its tip as she glances over her shoulder. ]
Hello? Do you have business with me?
b. [ She would be remiss not to peek into The Naughty Gorgon, where she yet again sticks out like a sore thumb, yet somehow seems utterly unfazed by the fact that she's utterly surrounded by the chaos of an ensuing all-tavern brawl. Deftly ducking under a wooden tankard that's gone sailing through the sky, she gestures at an empty seat... perhaps one next to a fellow riftfarer. (You!?) ]
Pardon me - is this seat taken?
[ What is someone so polite and proper doing in Nogard... ]
2. good impressions / atnam / quest: life in colour
[ She's no detective by any means, but... This, at least, seems like a quest she can take, unlike many of the more... violent or thrilling ones. She's rather observant, and perhaps that will be useful in this investigation. That, and she's curious about the painting scene here...
Entering the painter's home with another who's taken the quest, however, makes her realize this is going to be thrilling in its very own way. She's not sure what she expected to find here, but there's something unsettling about the chaotic scene before her.
Shortly, she'll find her interest piqued by a painting not too unlike this one, her eyes widened in wonder, unaware as to what awaits her and whoever comes to look at the painting with her. ]
What a lovely painting...
3. respect the brussel / atnam / quest: every day i'm brusselin'
[ Food-related quest. Or at least, produce-related quest. This she can definitely do!
...Though maybe not, because... She's standing in the middle of this strange little farm, holding a vial of the supposedly magical growing potion, staring at the column of brussel sprouts waiting to be picked and tried. ]
Did... Did you happen to catch what the farmers said? Something about little green men popping out?
3. maiday / naughtilust / quest: maid day mayday
[ Okay. Well. She's no stranger to the ole "suddenly put into an outfit not of your own choosing" gambit by now, at least, otherwise this would be considerably more upsetting. As it is, Sumina's maid ensemble isn't too drastically different from what she typically wears as an innkeeper, but still... It's the principle of it all.
She doesn't appear to be very interested in the, uh, festivities, and is very much trying to look Respectfully whenever she makes eye contact with anyone, and trying to ignore the absurdly high slit on her skirt as best as she can. What she cannot ignore, however, are patrons trying to get handsy with the service workers. As a service worker, herself, she won't sit idly by! Needing a bit of confirmation, she leans over to someone nearby and clears her throat. ]
Sorry to bother you, but... does it seem to you like that guest over there is staring the staff a little too much?
[ She tries to gesture at the troublemaker as subtly as she can. ]
4. spill the seaweed / eltrut / quest: sipping on seaweed
[ Another food-related quest! Yes!
...Only, no. This one's a strange quest, too. Why seaweed, of all things? Into tea? Wouldn't it be better used as a base for some sort of soup...? She's no chef, but she's learned she's what would be considered a "foodie," and trying to make seaweed tea is ridiculous.
Though she has to at least try. Taking a sip of the tea without any fruit additives to accompany it: ]
Oh, that's... [ her features pinch tight as she frowns. ] No, about as awful as I'd thought. What fruit could complement this...

💫 gojo / snaxburg secrets
Still, there's absolutely no replacing that feeling of being on solid ground - or liquid seas, as it were - and fresh air that they're afforded here. Honestly... She's realizing, now, how much she took it for granted even at home at the Elderflower. For as liminal of a space as the inn is, being in another world was simply an open door away. Not that she took advantage of the fact very much, but still.
So as they disembark whatever unaffiliated Corsair ship they've taken to Snaxburg, Sumina takes a moment to simply... let herself feel solid ground beneath her feet, and the sea breeze gusting over her face and through her hair, before she stretches her arms and legs out a bit. ]
I can't say I've ever traveled by sea so much in my life as I have over the last few weeks... How are you feeling, Satoru?
[ He hasn't seemed the type to get seasick thus far, thankfully, but she'll always check on her sweetie-pie regardless. ]
no subject
But he's not to worried about stretching and developing his power right now. He doesn't mind these little journeys, so long as they're with Sumina.
...Even then, he's still a little bit insufferable as they get close to the shore, and practically sprints off the ship as they disembark. Catching her hand in his as he goes, he stretches his arms above his head, as though he was terribly cramped on that ship. The Hotel never felt small, but there is something different about being out in the big, wide world, isn't there?
It's nice. ]
Ready 'n' raring to go! How're your sea legs? Land legs? [ Leaning over, he knocks an ankle against her own. ] If you're not feeling well, I can always carry youuuu!
no subject
She doesn't feel so worried about that with her present company, however. It's a relief, actually, that he offers to carry her, even jokingly so. It draws a little chuckle out of her as she raises her free hand to wave dismissively. ]
No, I'm quite fine for the moment, thank you. I'm sure I'll have to rely on you soon enough, anyroad. Now, let's see...
[ She reaches into her satchel to pull out a journal. Regrettably, not the one he had given her at the hotel... something simpler that she was able to haggle for at the markets on Nogard. Nerdily: ]
I believe our objective for this venture is to simply explore this island. It doesn't seem like there were any other requirements than that, but... I'll be sure to take note of what we find here just in case!
[ He can handle all the brawn, she can do this little guy nerdy stuff! Yeah! ]
no subject
[ They were called "bug snacks", after all, and Satoru can't picture a bug in any shape or form that he would want to eat. He will soon...eat his words, pun intended, but aside from the quest posting, he hasn't heard anything else about what the creatures on this island are like. ]
I need to buy you a new camera, huh? [ ...If they can even find one, and if he has the money for it. He's still not used to being Poor, especially how easy it was to get his hands on literally anything at the Hotel. ] This'll make for a great entry in your Heartleaf journal, though. What do you think, Mina? Are you gonna try to eat the bugs?
[ Without hesitating even a moment longer, he starts down the length of the pier to the beach, hand over his eyes as he scans the shoreline for any signs of life. He may be the muscle, but he also can be the eyes. What he can't spot with the naked eye, he might just be able to spot with his Six Eyes instead. ]

Well... They were described as "insect-shaped." Maybe they aren't formally classified as such? Or maybe they evolved to look like insects for survival...?
[ She's such a nerd... Or maybe she's performing mental gymnastics to justify the fact that her answer is not an outright no, also that she hasn't actually answered his question of whether or not she's thinking about eating the bugs. Suspicious. ]
Come to think of it... Might you remember, when I showed you my grandmother's journal? The one where she drew her guests. I wonder if I ought to try getting better at drawing like her, since I don't have the camera you gave me.
[ After all, she hasn't noticed anything near the level of technology they had access to at the hotel here, apart from their shellphones, and even those aren't quite as advanced as their hotel-issued smartphones. To obtain one here would likely be a tremendous task... but he can definitely gift her drawing supplies, and she would appreciate that.
Anywho, along the pier they go, with Satoru leading the way. Sumina's looking out, too, though she realizes soon enough that she has to let go of his hand to start jotting notes down :( ]

Yet even if they were forced to come here against their will and have to do these quests to get by, it doesn't feel out of character for her to be here. Maybe she was more of an adventurer than she realized, or maybe it's the amount of actual adventuring involved. This isn't like the time they had fought off ninjas or shadows, or even like the sharkfolk they faced down a couple weeks ago. It's just a perfect, Sumina-sized adventure, isn't it? It even involves food...
Maybe he'll try eat one after all. For her nerdy research. ]
Think so, Momo? You're welcome to practice by drawing me anytime you like.
[ He'll help her practice her anatomy, wink wonk...though before he can say more, there's some rustling from a thicket up ahead of them. There's the shape of something rifling around in the roots, but it draws still once it realizes it isn't alone. ]
...Okay, I lied. I'm totally gonna eat that little guy.
no subject
She can't help but quirk a brow at his comment, knowing straight away that he's stirring mischief with his words, but soon enough, they encounter their first bug-shaped snack! And this one is shaped like... ]
A burger...?
[ Said with a hushed tone. And does it have fries for legs? Wowie... ]
...Come to think of it, how are we supposed to catch them?
no subject
[ Comes his answer without a second thought, though he isn't leaping to gobble up the bug burger (bugger?) just yet, likewise captivating by just how...weird it is. It's kind of bug-like, in a way, but fry legs are way more appealing than the typical buggy leg. He can't really find it in him to be grossed out.
Just hungry. Borgie time. ]
Want me to teleport and snatch it up? Won't even know what hit it.
[ He's already leaning forward like he's about to do it... ]
no subject
So, with a smile, for once... she'll let him go bananas. ]
All right, honey. Have at it.
no subject
No sooner has Sumina given him the go ahead than does Satoru zip over and unceremoniously pick up the Bunger in his hands. It only felt right, to defer to her when this outing was her idea, and generally speaking, he isn't deliberately trying to go out of his way to ruin her experiences. But even if this wasn't her doing, he still...makes more decisions with her input these days, doesn't he? It just...sort of started happening naturally that way.
They've come this far together. It stands to reason they should continue on the same path, likewise together.
In any case, he's turning the poor creature around in his hands, picking at its bun, nibbling on its fry legs like a barbarian. ]
Hohhhh...it really looks and tastes like the real deal! The eyes are kinda freaky, though...c'mon, Momo, you gotta try this!
no subject
He's gone and back in a flash, expectedly, but even despite her initial enthusiasm, when faced now by the reality of, uh, munching on a live (?) creature (?) that just so happens to be bug-shaped but also made out of already-cooked food... Sumina finds herself faced with a dilemma. ]
S-Somehow, seeing it up close like this really is a bit unsettling...
[ Like... should they put it down before starting to munch on it like that?? How does one even go about that? She's trying so hard not to look into its eyes. ]
But the food is already cooked, so it does make sense to simply eat it as it is. Logistically speaking, this is a bit of a nightmare, isn't it...
no subject
Satoru, however, seems to have no qualms about it. It tastes just like the real deal, so as far as he's concerned, that's good enough for him! Noticing the way that Sumina is looking at its eyes, he flattens his palm over them, obscuring them, though they are still Looking. ]
Do you want me to take the eyes off for you, babe? Then it's just a normal hamburger.
[ Even he can agree that eating it while the eyes are just looking at him is a bit weird?? Even if it doesn't bother him much. ]
no subject
Ahaha...
[ It's no use... even with his hand over its eyes, she knows they are still Looking. ]
How about this? We're here to sample and gather data, yes? Instead of eating the whole specimen, we could simply take a bite or two out of each. [ gods. She sounds insane. Laios Touden where are you in our time of need.. ] We'll have more energy and room to sample a wider variety that way, too.
As for the eyes, though... Maybe you ought to cover mine while I take a bite out of it, instead?
[ :flushed:??? ]
no subject
Damn. Kinda hits close to home...anyway. ]
You got it! Better move quick, though — we got another one just a little further up the beach.
[ Stepping closer to Sumina, Satoru lifts his hand to brush his fingers over her eyes, obscuring her vision as he holds up the burger-bug for her with his other. ]
Go on! Take a big, juicy bite. Really dig in.
no subject
All right, all right. Ah—
[ she's doing the anime girl bite, ]
—mmm! [ A moment, as she chews. ] It really does taste like the real thing!
no subject
Freaky shit, huh?! Ah, well, so long as it tastes good. [ He has enough moral quandaries to deal with, he does not need another, he will simply not perceive the horrors of leaving half-eaten bugsnax everywhere.
So he just tosses the bunger back into the bush. Bye... ]
Onto the next, Momo?
no subject
[ She has to take notes like a NERD. Surely with his Six Eyes he can see what she's jotting down in her neat handwriting, but he's of course welcome to peer over her shoulder as ever.
1. Burger-shaped insectoid. Found in vegetation near shoreline.
Its legs were comprised of potato fries and its abdomen resembled a burger down to its components: bun, patty, lettuce, cheese. Unsure from sample if other condiments or ingredients are present... ]
All right. If we encounter another, I'd be interested to see if it has the same ingredients, or if it varies from specimen to specimen.
[ sorry she's just like this (cute and nerdy) and also... a bit excited about this little adventure? If her family could see her now... ]
Onto the next, Satoru!
[ What happens, then, if their next encounter is with a Scoopy Banoopy? What will Mister Sweet Tooth himself do in the face of a dessert bug...? ]
no subject
It's good that she had some time at the Hotel before arriving here, he thinks. If she had jumped straight from the Elderflower into piracy, she would've drawn right into her shell, but now she has her feet underneath her, to walk or run as she so chooses. It's a lovely thing to see, and even more so to have something to do with it. ]
Onto the next, Mina!
[ He echoes her, skipping off towards the next bug that he's spotted with his Six Eyes. This one isn't beneath the bushes this time, but rather vibing on some rocks, and...oh. Oh...
The Scoopy Banoopy. Be still, his heart. ]
...I changed my mind. I'm gonna devour it whole.
no subject
She follows him dutifully, and the moment she lays eyes upon the Scoopy Banoopy, she knows the chances of them sticking to their original game plan have all but evaporated. It simply looks too cute, too scrumptious, to sweet. Gods please forgive them for devouring this creature whole... ]
Ah... Satoru... I know there's no stopping you from this one in particular, but leave a bite for me...?
[ She wants to try it for science... ]
no subject
...Not that Satoru is particularly concerned with mercy at the moment. All he's concerned about is how alluring said Banoopy looks while his slightly-melted ice cream dribbles down its chin. Already, he runs his tongue over the bow of his lips, hunger burning within his stomach — ]
— Better get one in quick, 'cause I'm not stopping until there's nothing left of it.
[ Is this where Sumina gets her first glimpse of feral Gojo??
...
Maybe not quite, but there is a distinct, manic glint in his eyes as he hoists Scoopy Banoopy off the ground by his...bowl? And tears off one of its banana mandibles with his teeth. The Scoopy Banoopy appears...mildly concerned, as if this may as well happen. ]
1/2
2/3 jk
no subject
Sumina watches Satoru tear the Scoopy Banoopy apart with only his mouth and an unnaturally enthused glint in his eye, though more than anything else, she notes the way ice cream has dripped and runs down his chin... ]
You're... Satoru, you're being a bit of a slob.
[ Just casually takes a handkerchief out of her pocket... ]
no subject
Hnff? Whff nffth ghhthf — [ He swallows a gratuitous mouthful. ] So what? C'mon, take a bite before I finish it off.
[ There's still about half left, but he will not hesitate for long, holding out the Banoopy bowl to her. ]
no subject
[ he never listens!! Except for during emotionally-charged conversations!! ]
Ugh...
[ ...but yes, she's going to lean in to take a big ol' Banoopy bite now, her annoyance quickly dissolving into delight at its flavor. And as she draws away, she's already opening her notebook to scribble in it some more. ]
