[closed] manta board quest.

Who: eizen & zelda
Status: closed
Where: helping out one of the famers so on farm
What: manta board quest - seeds of hope
Warnings: will update as needed

[some days pirates pillage; some days they help out with planting. today's task of the day happens to be the latter and eizen doesn't mind that all too much. sure, treasure hunting and the like is far preferable (and more fun), but it's not as though planting things is all that bad. plus, he IS an earth malak, after all. doing plant-related comes with the territory.

that said, he can't help but side-eye one of the upside-down sprouting trees while walking past it with a tree sapling in hand. the way it's growing doesn't make sense. roots need nutrients from soil so why are they reaching out like that? in all honesty, it's unnerving.]

They way those are growing still doesn't sit right.

[but whatever. it's not his farm and if this farmer wants to grow these then by all means. it could just be another odd thing about this place, anyway. he tosses thoughts about it to the back of his mind for now as he glances down at his partner for today.]

Let me know when you want me to set this one down.

[he'll plop this guy in as soon as the hole is ready.]

[ Zelda was supposed to be digging said hole while Eizen went to go collect the sapling waiting to be planted in it.

Unfortunately, as often happens with Zelda, she was quickly distracted by something curious. In this instance, the upside-down tree. So when Eizen returns, he will find Zelda lingering near it, scribbling some notes into a small journal. ]

Aren't they fascinating? [ Said with an excitement her partner clearly doesn't share. ] How does it use its roots to photosynthesize? And is it actually growing leaves in the ground?

[ ...

Ah. The sapling. Right, Zelda was supposed to be digging... Her gaze travels away from the upside-down tree and lands guiltily on a shovel lying on the ground next to a shallow divot in the dirt-- not nearly deep enough for the sapling. ]

Ah, forgive me. I was a bit... distracted. You can set it to the side for now. I'll be right there to finish the hole.

[ Just as soon as she finishes jotting down this last observation. ]

Well, considering that we are in a world neither of us are native to, what may be "abnormal" in our eyes could be perfectly "normal" here.

[ "Um, actually..." ]

But even in the context of this world's "normal," you are probably right. I've not seen any plants here other than these that grow roots-up.

[ Indeed, Zelda's final observation is not as quick as she implied it would be. Even after she sets down her pencil, her hand goes to her belt pouch in search of a pair of shears-- she has to take a clipping! ]

It seems these were grown from seeds collected in the Abyss? I am still disappointed that I was not able to make an expedition there. I would love to know if the plants down there also grew like this.
