Maybe I'll give it a shot.

[A pause, as she gets to her feet and wanders closer to the edge to peer into the pool.]

Or you think these fish would be too big?

[He just watches her.]

Not really. Bigger will make it easier to catch, but they'll be stronger and harder to hold onto.

Just know if you do, whether you catch one or not you'll scare off the rest if you make a lot of movement.

[starshower]

[It's not like she can go far so he'll manage, and those bristles on her body smooth out yet again as she flattens against the inner curves of the shell under his finger.]

I'll get smothered by this shell if I do. It's ten times the size of me, and I'll get lost.

[He'll hear the humour in her little voice, though, as well as her appreciation.]

I'll wait until after to give a try. And if I don't manage, at least we'll already have a fish for dinner.

[A pause.]

[Instant rejection as he finishes peeling the branches and works on cutting the hook.]

Think it would be more fun watching you.

[A playful grin at that.]

If you get lost I'll just break it open.

[After another gentle stroke along the top of her head, he lifts the shell up a little higher to his face.]

But how are you otherwise? Don't feel... Strange or anything?

[starshower]

[Wow!!]

Rejected. Thought it would be fun, but if you're scared that I'll beat you, I'll understand.

[She crosses back to him and leans down to pick up the reed that he'd fixed into a rod.]

[starshower]

About as strange as anyone would feel like... this?

[She still doesn't really know what she is supposed to be, and she pokes her head a little further out of the shell, that little tip of her face twitching like a bunny wiggling its nose.]

Seeing your face so close and so big is gonna take some getting used to.

[flamekthunder]

[A small shrug.]

If you did I would actually be impressed and leave the fishing to you from now on.

[UGH.... Too cute. Too bad he can't use his shellphone down here to capture this...]

Hopefully you don't have to get use to it for long.

[He then smiles a little.]

But... I admit you are quite cute.

Hang on a second!

[A few of the curious bunnies startle at Tifa's voice, but not enough to deter them from wandering in and sniffing around Eustace's work.]

We're supposed to do that together.

[starshower]

Am I?

[She shakes her head at him.]

You think slugs are cute?

Well if you prove to be the fisherman...

[He just continues to smile playfully as he finishes the first hook and is making quick work with the other.]

Especially since you seem to prefer the bare hand method.

No, just you. And somewhat fitting that you looks like a little seabunny.

[Seeing him nearly finished with the rods, she sits down at the edge of the pool, careful not to disturb the water, and a few of the bunnies hop over to see what she's up to... or if she has any food. No sorry, friends. She is all out of berries now.]

Maybe that's my way of trying to impress you.

[starshower]

[Well, alright. As long as it's just her that's cute...]

It's the ears, isn't it?

[She gives them a wiggle for him.]

Why do you think I want to watch?

[A more wolfish grin as he carves that last bit for the makeshift hook.]

But if you want to learn how to make your own rod, come here.

Ears, small eyes, relative shape. Even the way you wiggle your face.

[Ah, she flushes at that look, her gaze dropping to the water for a moment before she shuffles closer to him, the rabbits following her.]

Thought you were gonna do all the cutting.

[But she's picking up a reed anyway.]

[She goes to reach up to cover her face, and forgets that she has no hands, and instead slips further into the shell.]

I'm not trying to do any of that!

[A pause, and little strained noises as she tries to climb further up to where she was.]

I didn't even know a creature like this existed.

I just finished. From here I can show you how to assemble everything.

[He shows her the strips of bark.]

You can make rope out of a lot of things, like bark, fibers from long leaves and reeds. And if you need to tie them together, there's a knot you can use that will secure them better. I'll show you.

[He just chuckles at her and lowers her so she'll feel less embarrassed. Against his chest.]

It really suits you. But I prefer your normal form better.

[starshower]

[She grabs the strip of bark from him and holds it in her other hand, looking everything over.]

I'll follow along if you demonstrate with yours.

I think I do, too.

[Even her mermaid form was preferable to this!!! How is she supposed to do anything!?

But she does feel much better tucked close to him, and she relaxes inside the shell, closing her eyes.]

Pay close attention.

[And with a light smile, Eustace proceeds to show Tifa first how he made the hooks and then how to tie and strengthen the makeshift line around the reed and then the wooden hooks. He'll even explain how it works and answer whatever questions she has, including anything on how or where he learned to do all this. The most important piece of story would be how his father taught him everything.

Once assembled, he shows her how to bait the hooks with some clam meat, and then just drop the line into the pond. With that set...]

Now we wait and try not to make too much noise. We could when set the poles to stand on their own if you don't want to hold onto it the whole time.
