[She goes to reach up to cover her face, and forgets that she has no hands, and instead slips further into the shell.]

I'm not trying to do any of that!

[A pause, and little strained noises as she tries to climb further up to where she was.]

I didn't even know a creature like this existed.

[He just chuckles at her and lowers her so she'll feel less embarrassed. Against his chest.]

It really suits you. But I prefer your normal form better.

I think I do, too.

[Even her mermaid form was preferable to this!!! How is she supposed to do anything!?

But she does feel much better tucked close to him, and she relaxes inside the shell, closing her eyes.]

[Now that she's secure, he gets onto the seahorse and they start the slow ride back, but he will have a sour expression.]

I'm... still not really sure what happened there.

[She stares up at him, at that sour look on his face.]

One second I was spinning and the next...? He thought I was his wife?

I still don't know how that would work... No I don't want to know.

[A small sigh.]

We should be careful if there are any more of his...kind.

[starshower]

[She does kind of enjoy seeing Eustace all huffy about her... It makes her feel special, and protected, and cared for.]

I doubt we'll run into any more problematic ones. As long as none of the others have been given weird "prophecies" by sirens about a bunny slug being carried around in a seashell by a wolf...eel.

[There's a somewhat bitter laugh at that.]

Then their prophecy better include that the "wolf eel" is not someone they can handle.

[Her ears and nose twitch up at him.]

[A quiet chuckle as he tries to imagine.]

Not sure if I'd be able to feel anything if you tried now.

[Which is a shame. He could try to kiss one of those cute little ears, but—a thought occurs to him as he stares at her coloring...]

[Oh no, now she's worried, and she huddles away further into the shell.]

I don't feel poisonous, but... you aren't feeling itchy or anything after touching me, do you!?

[Just lets his voice drift suspiciously.]

Eustace?

[Can he hear the stare that she is giving him in her voice?]

But then he smiles and laughs quietly.]

Sorry. I still feel fine, so don't worry. But it would be good for you if you did have some kind of defense, like spines that really could poison someone...

[She puffs up her body, and those bristles do stand on end.]

I've got a few, from the looks of it, but don't know how sharp they are.

You can try them next time, if someone else tries to claim you as their wife.

Let's hope you can scare off any "next time".

[She doesn't mean to make a little squeak noise of a laugh, but when it comes, her ears stiffen and stick straight up, and she clears her throat, which is even squeakier.]

So uh, where are we going?

[There's just a small chuckle that she might feel more now that she's against his chest, a gentle rumble as he continues to direct the seahorse back to—]

The village. There should be someone there who might know what happened.

[A gentle rumble that makes her entire body shake inside the shell, but it's... oddly comforting, too.]

This potion came from the surface though, didn't it...? You think the whalefolk might know?

It's from the sirens, so if it's using some kind of underwater magic, they might. There might also be sirens or other merfolk there, too.

Hmm, okay.

[She frowns to herself.]

Maybe we should stop trusting the sirens altogether.

It has been a bit hit or miss lately...

[And they'll soon see the village ahead, so Eustace places a protective hand over the shell.]
