[Sonic doesn't land nearly as smoothly as he would have liked, considering one doesn't typically expect to appear at random above a ship in the middle of the ocean. At least the sail had broken his fall before he'd tumbled ungracefully onto the deck, and it doesn't look like he'd lost many quills to the fabric. All in all it could have been worse, he could have ended up in the water again.

With a groan, he pushes himself to his feet and looms around to take in his new surroundings, only to spot Shadow of all people on the captain's deck. Oh joy, stuck on a boat with Mister Personality! This was sure to end well.]

Ah... huh. I'd say I can explain, but I'm at a bit of a loss with this one.

[He groans.] Don't bother. [He can figure out how based on his entrance. Doesn't mean he has to like this arrangement.]

Don't try to run. We're no where near land. [Meaning he's stuck with this hedgehog. All the more reason his mood has soured. He returns to moving the sail once more to catch the wind, better duck blue hedgehog.]

[Sonic's aware enough of his surroundings to duck the sail, at least. He moves over to the side of the ship in order to stay out of the way, shielding his eyes from the sun as he looks out across the water.

Eeeyup, Shadow's right. Nowhere near land. Sonic sighs, accepting his boaty fate with a shrug. What can you do, huh?]

It is what it is, I guess. What brings you all the way out here?

[He considers for a moment just turning the boat back around and not give the blue hedgehog a response. It's nothing worth hiding, he just doesn't want to deal with the other hedgehog too.

...At the same time, he's already reached his destination and it be a waste having to go back and then return to this spot. Things may drift away before he can return to investigate again. Tch. He glances off into the distance, searching while the boat drifts through the area.] How are you at swimming?

[At least Shadow's not the worst person he could be stuck with right now. Shadow only punches him sometimes, and most likely doesn't want to actually kill him. At least not all the time.

Hard to gauge whether or not Sonic's answer to that question will warrant a punching...]

I've been practicing! I've just about mastered the doggy paddle. Its not great, but I can mostly keep my head above water?

[...] We'll see if that's good enough. [He turns the boat slightly, marking something on what appeared to be a map chart sitting beside the steering wheel.]

I'm looking for clues to Elah's whereabouts. [Considering the whale was last seen diving underwater, swimming might be required. Will this give the blue hedgehog cold feet, or is he going to confront this problem?]

I can't promise it'll be fast... [Which, for Sonic, is pretty embarrassing to admit. He's more than happy to change that subject to what Shadow's doing.]

Anyway. Elah, huh? Any luck so far, or are you just starting off?

[Guess you'll make good fishbait then.] Only possible leads.

[What those are, the hedgehog can ask, cause he's not interested in elaborating as Sonic isn't a concern to him right now. He notices some fish and other marine life that seem to be huddling around an area near the surface. Getting closer, they start to swim away in the same direction.

...He has a feeling following where they go might be the play. The boat gently rocks as he turns the ship once more to follow behind the fishes.]

Gotta start somewhere, I guess. What kinda leads? Oooor should I just shut up and wait and see when we get there.

[He can just keep himself entertained by fish watching, getting on Shadow's nerves in the middle of the ocean would just be annoying for both of them.]

[...] Just tell me if you see something. [Shut up and wait it is. And he'll be waiting for a while. His favorite thing to do. As Shadow continues to trail along the school of fish, the air does noticeable start to get warmer. Not sweltering hot, but the pleasant kind of warmth that you'd want to go out for a picnic in, or a day at the beach.

He did pick up during his research something about a "paradise", and weather was relatively fair at all times. Was he on the right track? If he is, then eventually they should start seeing some landmass somewhere. If it hasn't sunk or dragged away.]

[with a sigh and a roll of his eyes, Sonic just stares out over the vast, boring ocean. Of all people, he had to get stuck in the middle of the ocean with Shadow. At least it wasn't Surge. Eggman might be preferable though, Sonic doesn't feel bad about getting on his nerves.

It does take a lot longer than Sonic would like, to the point that he considers finding a nice place to nap, but eventually he does think he sees something in the distance. He perks up a bit, squinting and shielding his eyes as he tries to get a better look at whatever it is he sees.]

Hey, you see that out there? That look like land to you, or am I just starting to see things?

[The continued silence from the blue hedgehog is welcomed. There's nothing to discuss anyway, not until Sonic brings his attention to some land. It's not in the direction they're heading, just off in the distance, almost like a mirage.

He glances down at the sea life he had been following. They are gradually starting to turn in the direction of the landmass in the distance. A quiet hum as he turns the ship towards those landmasses. As they get closer, there's a gradual uptick of marine life appearing beneath the surface following them. Dolphins, flying fish, jellyfish, anything you could think of, one could spot them. All except for the whales. The climate here must be able to sustain life to have this many species existing in one spot. "Paradise" may have been here.

The boat starts to slow as they approach a cove-like area on one of the islands. Nothing about these islands indicate anything unique about them. Jungles, and beaches stretch forever. Seals and sea turtles can be seen basking on the beaches as they reach shallow waters, dropping anchor.] You know how to lower the sails?

Sure do! I'll take care of it!

[At the very least, Sonic had taken the time to learn how to do a few things around a ship. There's nothing worse than feeling useless while also being stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean.

He busies himself with lowering the sails, taking a little more time than he does with most other things to make sure he does it all properly. He wants nothing more than to get off the boat and go for a run or something, but look he can be responsible and stuff OK SHADOW]

[...If he was impressed at the fact Sonic even knew how to do certain things on a boat, he ain't showing it. He also isn't a hundred precent confident in the blue hedgehog's words. So he'll observe as he turns off the engine.

...

There's nothing for him to even point out with what they're doing. Whatever. He gathers his satchel and will be the first to get off the boat, into the shallow water.] I don't know what it is we're looking for, but keep your eyes peel for anything unusual.

[once he wraps up what he's doing, Sonic joins Shadow in the shallow water. ]

Anything unusual, huh. So basically you were planning to straight up wing it.

[there's no criticism behind these words, sonic's known for doing the exact same thing.]
