[The glass charms they've been asked to make promise to not only be decorative, but quite practical— but it was the method of the magic involved that had caught Gale's interest when he had initially caught the listing while reviewing the MANTA board for jobs he might take on that his constitution could weather.
Given the effects these charms are meant to have, he thinks they would make excellent gifts for friends and loved ones across various crews, as well, but that's getting rather ahead of himself— he and Koh have to determine how to blow glass, first.]
Well then, our first step is to heat the glass, yes? The furnace is meant to be unfathomably hot, so perhaps best to take precautions first.
[He offers the cleric a smile and raises one hand to wiggle his fingers.]
A touch of fire resistance, perhaps? Though considering your chosen path, I realize you may not need my assistance in that regard.
[The drow was also drawn to the MANTA board request under similar interests. Besides the delicate beauty of these blown glass trinkets, this spirit essence admittedly peaked her interest. What would be the shape of her heart? The answer to that question both intrigued and frightened her at the same time.
But she shook off that thought, turning to her wizard companion with a faint smile.]
While I do have magic that grants certain resistances, sadly fire is not one of them. I could heal a nasty burn if the need arises. [She chuckled softly to herself.] Unless you have something better, I am all ears.
I happen to have a few elixirs that ought to do the trick well enough— though very glad to know myself to be in excellent company should any injury occur.
[He reaches into his bag to rummage through his belongings, producing a triangular vial with something red and translucent within, holding it out in offering.]
Fortunately for us, I tend to keep several of these on hand. They're something of a necessity when you have a housemate like mine.
[Sometimes everyday things just end up on fire. He's learned to work around it.]
[The drow eyes the vial with an amused smile on her face. How he just had it on hand like that...]
Your roommate must be very accident prone if you feel need to have them handy. [She raised eyes to cock a brow at him.] Do you really think this will be necessary? You planning on jumping into the furnace?
[He laughs, raising a hand to make a so-so sort of gesture.]
Ah, not quite, I'm afraid. She's a rather special case in that she runs hotter than the rest of us— dangerously so.
[Regarding the present situation, however:]
It may not be necessary, but better safe than sorry, yes? Especially as neither of us is an expert glassblower— to my knowledge, at least. With these in place, we ought to be able to proceed without care!
[A memory tickled across her mind, remembering her first nights when she arrived at this place. In the garden she had met a tiefling whose skin was warm to the touch, a bit overly warm, but it was pleasant at the time in the cool night air. She remembered the woman mentioning something about running.... hot.]
Oh, you mean my little dancing friend? [Koh said with a kind smile.] Well I wouldn't call her small, If its the same tiefling I met.
[She gave the bottle one last glance before she took it from him, shaking her head resigned.]
True enough. This would be my first time and even if I do have magic to fix us up, lets keep it for emergencies. Bottoms up.
[Uncorking the vial, Koh easily downed the whole potion in one gulp.]
You've met! [He chuckles again, his smile pulling wider.] You're quite right, 'little' is hardly an apt descriptor, but if you've had the opportunity to meet, I'm sure you can imagine why these might be useful to keep on hand.
[Lifting his elixir to her in a mock toast, he uncorks his own flask and proceeds to drink its contents down, just as a precaution. Though he doesn't wish to alarm his companion by saying so, he has his own troubles that he'd like to avoid aggravating with any unnecessary excitement.]
Well, then! That ought to do it— I believe we're meant to use these until they're ready to be shaped.
[He reaches for a pair of long poles that had been provided, each with what looks vaguely like a pair of tongs at the end, laying one across the workbench for Koh to take hold of.]
Once it's hot enough, then we get a glimpse of the magic at play here.
Indeed I have. [She chuckled softly to herself.] She honored me with a dance upon my first night here. Much like yourself.
[Koh gave a small nod in thanks as he passed her the long metal poles, looking is over with vague confusion. Maybe she should have read a book on glass blowing before she got here.]
Wait, we're meant to heat these up. Where does the glass come into all this then?
We use them to grab hold of the glass, if I'm not mistaken— to hold it over the flames in the furnace from a safe distance. Mind, I've never done it myself, only seen it done by people with far more experience, but I've no doubt the two of us can put our heads together and fumble through it well enough, hm?
[Optimism! Approach any task with confidence, and you're sure to meet with some measure of success.]
When the glass is heated, we'll be able to give it shape— I think.
