[A. Network Post - Elemental Energy Survey

The camera opens to...an absolute riot of plants. Most of them are flowering. Most of them are also between six to eight feet tall, with the mourning flowers somehow making it to nine. Kaveh looks a little sheepish about this backdrop, but it does well to showcase the butterflies fluttering around him.]

Hi, hello, please don't mind the garden. I had this put on the Manta Board, but I thought it'd be useful to talk about it here as well.

[He holds a hand up so one of the butterflies lands on it--it's a palm-sized mechanical butterfly with a crystalline container for...something as the body.]

I made these to collect ambient energy! I am hoping to get a better understanding how the elemental energy in this world behaves and how we're effecting it, so taking these around to a variety of different places and recording the results will be a great help to me. They don't need much input to do their job, but I'd be happy to answer any questions about them.

...On an unrelated note, I don't suppose anyone is experienced with gardening? Or plant magic?

I don't know much about gardens or plant magic. The best I am with that kind of stuff is not stepping on the flowers.

But I can probably help with a couple of those butterflies.

[They look like little machines, that's pretty neat.]

[He sighs, but smiles.] Oh, that's excellent news. I have...quite a few of them here, if you don't want to get them from the manta office.

Mr. Kaveh, was it? I would be glad to help.

[A bit wry:] I haven't much experience with magic or gardening, I'm afraid, but I can follow directions.

Ah, Mr. Cyrus! It's quite alright-- that's all I'll ask of you.

[Kaveh laughs, brightly.] They're made to do most of the work. You just need to take them somewhere and press a button here--[He points to a small button at the top of the storage canister.] And they'll flutter around gathering the energy themselves. We're looking to see how long until they've filled up in each location, and how many fill--whether or not you release ten or twenty at once, or keep releasing them one at a time is also valuable data.

More clever little companions, I see!

[Gale had been quite fascinated by Mehrak when he and Kaveh first met, and these butterflies have sparked his interest, as well— especially given most mechanical constructs are still quite foreign to him.]

I'd be very interested to hear of your findings when the time comes, if you're keen to share. As for your question, I actually have done a bit of gardening in my day, though I admit it's mostly herbs.

Unfortunately, I believe you already know that plant magic isn't quite my realm of expertise.

[He coughs, a little embarrassed.] As far as my findings go, I'd be happy to share. Wisdom is meant to be shared, after all.

I'm just hoping I am not the only one with it...I can't imagine I am.

[Kaveh blinks.]

The butterflies? I'd made them initially for a commission back home. These have just been modified a bit to collect energy.

Isn't Alhaitham also a Dendro user? Does he not have any useful information for you there?

[He chuckles a little at the look on Kaveh's face.]

I feel like you keep forgetting that on Inazuma we don't have many people casually building mechanical butterflies for research purposes.

The plant magic came from the tattoo, not my vision. Tighnari is the one of us who's vision directly controls plant life.

[Dendro is weird, Heizou. Kaveh laughs a little, though.] They weren't for research. I thought the interior of a house needed a bit more pizazz than just simply adding flower motifs to the walls, so I made these butterflies after consulting another scholar for the aerodynamics. Honestly, I'd been making them out of scrap material just to do something with my hands anyway...

Oh? Then there really must be someone else around here with relevant experience to help you.

[Someone who is even more definitely not Heizou. He only got his tattoo to cover for times he might not have access to his Vision, so he really hasn't even tried anything related to that kind of magic.

And that explanation... has Heizou raising an eyebrow, lips curling into a little smirk.] You saying that literally just made it sound more impressive, senpai.

I'm certainly hoping so...I like Sumeru Roses but maybe not eight feet tall.

[Pause.] Does it?

[He chuckles a little again.] Best of luck to you in that endeavor, then.

[And the amusement on Heizou's face has definitely not left, his tone taking on something just a little more teasing and sing-songy.]

Yes, it does. My goodness, senpai~ It's no wonder you were the top of your class~~!

Kaveh you thought a B was a failing grade.]

...Are you interested in helping with them, Heizou?

Well, you were in the Akademiya. I'm sure even the brightest stars have their work cut out for them in those circumstances!

Hm? That depends... What would I have to do?

Not much. They just need to be released in different locations and record how long it takes for the canister to fill. They'll land on their own after about an hour, so if they don't fill up, that's also useful information.

We know so little about how elemental energy works here...there aren't even any leylines, as best I can tell. Establishing a baseline for how we effect the natural energy of this world is crucial to making responsible use of the magitech they use here.

Oh? Is this world in danger of misusing the available magitech so much that it throws the natural order out of balance? Do you hope to use this information to improve the way magitech develops moving forward? Or are you simply satisfying a scholar's curiosity?

The thing is, I don't know, and neither does anyone else. Measuring in a variety of locations could reveal to us stark differences, but may not mean much. We don't have enough data to form a hypothesis.

Enough people have mentioned that the overuse of energy in their homeworlds created massive natural upheaval that it's at least worth checking here. It's fully possible that everything in this world is self-sustaining, but the fact of the matter is we don't know.

I see... It does make sense to be cautious. But as things stand, we can only reach so many parts of the world. Really most of your readings are likely to only be taken on Eltrut. Would that be good enough?

I can probably take them to Elah myself, as well as a couple other places...I might be able to ask those on the Corsairs to take some for me as well. But even if it's just on Eltrut, limited data is still better than no data, so that's quite alright.

[Heizou goes quiet for a moment, thoughtfully tapping a finger to his chin while he kind of just... stares at Kaveh through the camera.]

[...Headtilt? What's the matter, Heizou? what do your detective eyes see?]

Excellent. I have...a great deal of butterflies here at the house, if you want to pick them up here instead of the manta office.

[His head tilts as well. Why do you keep inviting him to your house, Kaveh--]
