two 🔧 it's a pirate's (birthday) life for me
Who: Everyone who knows Cid!
Status: Open
Where: The Enterprise II on Eltrut, long before Cid becomes The Most Wanted Man
What: YO DAD, IT'S YA BIRTHDAY
Warnings: Probably? If people get drunk, or make out... but probably pretty general here.
Under the pretext of "I need some supplies" and Benedikta keeping Cid busy for any and all party business, and the help of Kaveh for some money to get said supplies, the Enterprise II is ready for a party! Another shellphone alert will have gone out to everyone but Cid with a time and place and a note that if you know Cid? Show up! Even if it's been a very brief meeting, it's likely Cid would remember you anyway; he's just Like That. Come for singing happy birthday, stay for some cake and dinner!

THE FOOD
Styled like what you'd find in one of the many taverns dotting Eltrut in a large buffet-styled table is plenty of tavern food and some casks filled (and marked appropriately) with alcohol and non-alcoholic mead, wines, and punches, straight from the Minstrel and Cask. Larger casks are found around the main area as well holding the same.
The cake itself is styled like a night in Waloed, long before any issues arose, almost as if taken straight from memories. Inside is a chocolate cake with some light lavender flavouring, and for those who want some lighter fare, some of the same cake has been made into cupcakes with mini lightning bolt-shaped cookies with some differing decor.
OUTSIDE
Outside has plenty of seating on the deck, tables, and places to watch the hustle and bustle of Eltrut, with some balloons hanging from some high-up strings above everyone's head. At night, the balloons will be lit up to look like stars, and the boat will pull out from harbor to at least circle the main island slowly. There aren't really any places for people to sneak off to (and if Mid catches you trying to break into crew quarters... so help her she'll tell her dad) but people can enjoy the sea breeze and some drinks under the stars.
As sort of a centerpiece is a small potted tree with many branches, and slips of parchment with ribbon ties, and quills for writing to act as a guestbook but also a memory tree. Even if you haven't known Cid for too long, you can still write something nice!
Overall this is very much a mingle post! Drink, eat, be merry, and wish Cid Telamon a happy birthday!

Aye there is, and seems this world is discovering new places still.
[Setting the book on a conveniently placed nearby table, he joins her, back against the railing with his arms propping him up.]
And what of your own adventures?
no subject
You first, you first. This is your party!
no subject
And what kind of adventures can I regale you with?
no subject
This is called the "Enterprise II"... What was the first one?

[A light, wistful smile as he leans back a bit against the railing as if gathering his thoughts.]
I never got to see the real thing. However, it was a ship that I designed with my daughter, Mid. She's the one who would later finish it.
[And then a small hum.]
It was a ship meant to serve as a kind of ark, to carry people away from Valisthea should the Blight be too much and we need to find safer lands. It was actually the second ship I designed.

[There's a subtle shift in his expression before he closes his eyes, thinking back on those days.]
It was the same purpose—a vessel faster than any other fleet and large enough to carry as many people as possible in the event we needed to evacuate the kingdom. However, I left my position before it could be built, leaving the designs in some vain hope that they would build it for its purpose, but...
[His head lowers a bit.]
Well, it was a vain hope.

I have the feeling you always do that, I do. [ Her eyes soften, and, respectfully, she allows few moments of quietness to pass— time allowed for him to gather his thoughts, if necessary, or recompose himself to the previous, casual cadence from before. ]

I've always been told I was something a dreamer. Prefer looking ahead than dwelling on the past.
[He looks at her with a light but genuine smile before he laughs.]
Besides, we designed an even faster and better ship, so no need to dwell on it.
[And for that, he feels more pride than anything else.]
Now this ship—[He gives a few taps against the railing with a rap of his knuckles.]—is not one I built. Just one we "acquired." [A sly grin at that.] Had I more time I would consider and perhaps Mid and I will design a new one just for the crew, but for now we can work with this one and upgrade it to our liking.

And with all your family here, too. [ The 'all' being the key word, as he has more than just Mid. Benedikta is certainly a part of that family. ]
no subject
You can consider yourself part of it, too.
no subject
But then she perks up. ] Me? A Telamon?
no subject
Well if you wanted, I'm sure Mid wouldn't mind a sister.
[But he does look at her fondly. While he wouldn't be so bold as to try and take on that kind of role, it would be a lie to say he hasn't grown a bit fond of Rem and tries to look after her. Granted, he's like this to a lot of kids and teenagers, greatly influenced by having his own with Mid. But perhaps because he knows her story, there's a bit more connection there, too. It's a similar feeling he has to Clive, too, whom he definitely treats like an overgrown son.]
I meant more of the crew. Even back in my world I considered my little group of misfits and rebel something like family, and it feels no different now.
[His gaze sweeps outward towards everyone there on the deck, enjoying the food and the drinks and just general merriment.]
Anyone is free to leave whenever they wish, but while they are here, it's their home. A place where they can feel as if they can belong and get somewhere, look after one another, and have some sense of security when they need it.
[He then looks at her.]
Sounds like a family, doesn't it?
no subject
Upon the deck, she counts the Dominants among the eclectic bunch of other off-worlders he's managed to gather. ] A found family. [ She reflects quietly, her words audible just above the sounds of celebration. ]
I think, somehow, ....with them, you managed to give yourself the best gift anyone could have. [ A feat of which he should be immensely proud. Rem steps away from the railing. ] Happy Birthday, Captain.
no subject
[Again another laugh because—that is very true. At least especially back in Valisthea, he found so many of them. And that's including his actual daughter.
He then looks at Rem and nudges her with his elbow.]
You really have a way with words, you. But you don't have to keep up with this "Captain" nonsense. Just call me Cid, same as always.
no subject
The reassurance that she doesn’t need to address him by title is yet another reason her smile remains. ] I— I see. Okay. Just “Cid”.
[ Wait. ]
Even if you’re anything but a “just”.
no subject
Again you flatter me.

no subject
All right, fine, I'll allow it for today.
[But he smiles, one that is a bit light.]
Now, have you tried that cheese wheel?
no subject
Not yet. Do you want some, oor.... Is this a way of dismissing me so someone else can meet you by the railing?
[ Wagging her brows. ]
no subject
I wouldn't be so rude. I'm actually feeling a bit peckish myself. And you have yet to tell me any new stories.
no subject
But she quickly recovers, grinning. ] A story? I'll have to think of one, I will. Eating cheese first might help.
no subject
[Of course he's just teasing, but he will help in cutting that cheese. It can be surprisingly difficult with the harder rounds....]
no subject
However, she does appear earnestly trying to think of something to share with him. Unfortunately, the blessing over her world gives her very little to work with. ] Um, hey... Sorry, I can't think of anything yet-- and I mean that honestly. But I did want to ask you about something else.
