Who: Cidolfus Telamon & Benedikta Harman. Status: Closed. Where: Around places. What: Cid and Benedikta follow a lead and sneak into a fancy holiday party. Event stuff TBA. Warnings: it's them, what do you want from me
[The more she spins, the tighter the rope twists around her. It doesn't help that the path is obstructed, and she continues to scream at him some more.]
Cidolfus!
[The children are all screaming and running after her as well, and now they have the whole lodge watching as Cid is now forced to chase her through...
[Because he had to weave through people and furniture he doesn't notice that she's headed right towards an deer head mounted on the wall, those antlers nice and sharp enough to pop anything that might get caught. At the last possible moment and with screams all around them, he manages to yank on the rope to pull her away!!!
...
But then the rope snags on something else, and between his yanking and Benedikta's flailing, there's a tear and then a snap as the rope breaks, making Benedikta fly loose once more and the momentum strong enough to really send her flying off.]
[Yeah, she sees that deer head too, and she is flapping her wings desperately to try and steer herself to avoid it.]
Cidolfus—!
[His name is broken by a sound. She doesn't know what kind of sound it is, but it's a cross between a shriek and a grunt when he yanks on the rope. It jerks her backwards, and she is half expecting to go crashing into him. Instead, the momentum sends her spinning rapidly back the other way. Or in some direction. She doesn't know left from right anymore. She catches a flash of the kids rushing after her, shoving their way through people watching uselessly, but that's all she does see as she spins and spins and spins, like a balloon lost in the skies on a violent wind.
SHE PREFERS FLYING TO THIS.
By now, she's so dizzy and all tangled up in the rope that she can't use her wings to steer herself anymore, one of them tied to her body while the other one continues to flap flap flap, but that just sends her in more circles.]
[He quickly makes another lasso, this time to try and get it around her so he can pull her back.
However, before he can throw it, a group enters the lodge through the door near her, causing a gust of cold wind to blow through and pull her towards it.]
She's blown back and then pulled forward when the door swings open. She can't even attempt to fly as the cold air sucks her towards and then through it. Fortunately, the wind is not as strong as it could be, but it is still enough to drag her further into the air.
There are few times when Benedikta has truly been scared of anything. Usually, she would love being so high up in the air, and would take the wind and the skies with ease... but when she is a balloon tied up in that rope and her wings do absolutely nothing to aid her, it is a terrifying thing. She can't remember the last time she had been this scared of the endless blue sky stretching above her.
She screams for him again, this time more desperate, before she vanishes through the door, the string uncoiling from her before that disappears too, leaving those who had just entered confused when several people rush after her—]
[Although a little dangerous, at least they are in a building so there is a little bit more control in trying to get her down. But the moment that door opens, everything changes. As if in slow motion, he sees her practically sucked through the door outside, and he shouts for her while shoving his way through, the small kids and some others now wanting to hell following.
Once outside he desperately looks around, trying to find her voice and someone manages to point up to her in the air, tumbling around by the cold air that blusters around them. He doesn't even wait as some people make calls for a net or someone who could fly, he's already taking off in a burst of lightning over the ground to try and cover the distance. Despite being only seconds after her, the winds are strong enough to carry her so far and worse—so high.]
[The wind only makes this tangle of limbs and rope worse. It whips her this way and that, changing directions every few seconds, as the wind is wont to do. She tries to control it with her magic, but like everything else she's tried with it so far in this form, it is nothing but a fart of wind that she manages. She's pretty sure that it's only made it worse—
It won't take much to find her, at least. With her shrieking his name over and over, as well as swearing (parents should be covering their children's ears with the curses she is screaming into the skies), she's a very loud but very small balloon being carried away faster than she can do anything about.
And it is about to get so, so much worse when a bird—a hawk, though she cannot quite see it—swoops in from behind her seemingly out of nowhere and grabs one of her legs in its beak.]
What are you—!?
[She tries to wrestle with it, and she at least manages to claw at the bird, knocking it off kilter.]
[Why was the wind so damn strong...?? Everytime he thinks he gets closer she's somehow sent farther away. But now there's a new problem that he sees.]
Bollocks—she's not yours!
[No more fun and games. In one moment he's on the ground, and in the next he suddenly appears in a burst of lightning and slams his fist against the bird.]
[The hawk shrieks loudly, though Benedikta is pretty sure that it's swearing up a storm as it tries to right itself and keep its hold on her when Cid appears in front of them and punches the bird. It teeters in the air, the impact of his fist sending it flying in that same direction several feet. Its talons try to clamber for purchase on its quarry—her—while it flaps its wings madly.
Benedikta, meanwhile, is somehow on the verge of tears as she screams and screams and then screams some more. Mostly just a string of incoherent swearing at this point—she is much too tired for anything else.
But in all of the chaos, between Cid's punch and Benedikta swinging her claws desperately at it, the bird drops her, and she is sent flying off into the wind again, with a crooked bird on her tail—]
[Levitating I the air for a moment, he takes a breath and concentrates before he once again disappears and then reappears in a burst of lightning. He succeeds in appearing right in Benedikta's path, and he will grab her and clutch her to his chest before releasing a burst of lightning forward towards the hawk.]
[She hurtles into his chest, the world's spinning coming to a sudden stop, and she's not sure she's ever felt so dizzy in her life. Not even when she was first learning how to harness her powers...
The lightning strikes the bird's wing when it tries to dodge, clipping and burning some of its feathers. It dives out of the way, screeching more curses at him, before it turns around and crookedly flies away in the other direction, back to the trees to hide.]
Cidolfus!
[She doesn't know why she screams his name again, considering she's finally safe, but it's an oddly comforting thing, as her claws cling to whatever part of him that she can, digging holes into his coat.
[As he continues to levitate in the air she'll feel his chest heaving and his heart racing, pounding against his ribcage. It's not even out of exertion in using his aether. Really, he didn't use much of it at all.
It's all from the fear he felt in those moments, fear that she will feel in that tremble of his hands as he clutches her tightly to him, head lowered close to hers as his voice quivers before he forces it to be steady, wanting to comfort her despite his own fears.]
It's all right now... You're all right.
[The fear of losing her to the skies only to be worsened when she was attacked... That fear of losing her... If he hadn't practiced those flying skills, what would have happened? Could he have still saved her? Would he have tried to prime instead?
[She can feel the trembling, the fear in the way he clutches her and how he holds her so very close that she wonders how she can even still breathe. But through it all, she too is quivering like a leaf, and as hesitant as she is to admit it, she had been terrified as well. She's never been so vulnerable before—not physically, at least. Without her wings or her powers to fend for herself, she was at the full mercy of the wind. She knew that the wind could be a frightening thing when left uncontrolled—she has seen it for herself—but to be the one who could not control it...?
She never wants to experience that again.]
That was horrible.
[As she clings to him tight, her little claws digging further into his coat, her face hiding against his cheek, she doesn't realize that she has started to cry until she lets out a tiny sniffle.]
[She hiccups with a sob and lifts her head to look at him, her eyes big and shimmering with held back tears. Her claw reaches up to try touching his cheek.]
[This is so cute that he can't help but feel some of that guilt fade. But those eyes with those tears also tear at his heart, so while he does smile a little and leans his cheek closer to her little claw, the touch still warm despite the cold air around them.]
No, it is, I took the situation too lightly. And I had promised to keep you safe.
[She does feel a little bad about him blaming himself, though it is not all that surprising. If the roles had been reversed, she might have blown the whole place apart just to get him down if she needed to.
Never mind the fact that if she had not let go in the first place, it would not have happened. ... She really should have listened to him, but she is both rattled and far too stubborn and ashamed to admit that just yet.]
It was the winds.
[And those people who opened the door without a care in the world, frankly. She will choose to blame them.
She rubs her face against his cheek, her large tears wet on his skin, and there will also be a red spot where she was hit with the rope earlier.]
Perhaps we can start by getting back on the ground?
[A slightly scolding tone, but even as he smiles at her, she feels those tears streaming down her face, falling onto his cheek with big plops. She is not usually a crier, so why now? Is it because of her form? Questions that she will not linger on.
Instead, he'll feel her face peck against his cheek in what is supposed to be a kiss before she tries to awkwardly climb into the front of his jacket on her own.]
[It would never be too much if it meant saving her. But it's when she tries to climb into his jacket will they hear some cheers, and he'll glance down for a moment while still keeping a hand close over her.]
[The children, especially, are cheering loudly, and she catches a glimpse of them as she continues to try and shuffle into his coat.]
Yes, because you are quite the show off...
[Except just as she is about to do slide in, she feels that same tug of magic she had earlier when she'd been skiing down the hill and transformed. It's abrupt, a bit jarring, and she only gasps before one second, she is the tiny bird balloon and the next, in a puff of smoke and magic, she is wrapped around him. Her face is inches from his, eyes wide in shock, her hands splayed across his chest, and legs tangled with his.
[In one moment he was about chuckle and wait for her to cozy in his jacket, and the next he's staring at her wide-eyed, not expecting to have her turn back so soon least of all up here.
And that stunned silence will be broken by a loud WHOOOOOAAAAA and cheers, the children shouting how the balloon bird turned into a princess!!!!]
[Her arms immediately wrap around his shoulders for support when she feels herself slipping ever so slightly, and she can feel her cheeks growing red and warm at the children calling her a princess???
"It's like in the books!" One of the little girls shouts.]
[She needn't worry too much as he had tightened his arms around her, but then again they were sill up in the air and he was still semi-reclined on his back.]
How could I? If I could I would have done so long before now.
[Well, he should probably bring them back down now.]
[Before he does bring them back down to the audience that is somehow awaiting them...
She gives him the kiss that she has been wanting to give him since he had caught her, but couldn't. Of course everyone below sees it, but she ignores the hoots and cheers, and perhaps even relishes in them a little (even if she is a bit embarrassed), as she wraps her arms tighter around him and kisses him with all the appreciation in the world.]
Thank you for catching me.
[Her nose is cold as she nuzzles it against his cheek.]
