eighth bolt ⚡ nega-sacabambapsis
Who: Cid and Hawks
Status: Closed
Where: out on the ocean
What: some extreme fishing as they go after the Nega-Sacabambapsis, much to Cid's dismay
Warnings: none
[Upon hearing about this "evil" Sacabambapsis, Cid was actually a bit disheartened to think that such a magnificent creature could even become darkened as such. He was also curious how large these fish really could be since he was more familiar with their smaller form. What if they were just misunderstood and could be taken care of instead!?
Okay, no, he wasn't that foolish, but the thought may or may not have crossed his mind.
Still, if it's a menace then it needs to be handled, and the glorious reputation of the Sacabambapsis must not be tarnished!
Utilizing the Hideaway crew's ship, the Enterprise II, he has picked up someone else who had decided on taking on the bounty, and he approaches them as the ship quickly cuts through the waves towards one location where the fish have been sighted.]
Hawks, was it? Before we reach our destination, we should firm up our plans.

Of course squid is n o t happy about that, and it tries to lash out at the ship. Knowing this would happen, Cid slams his hand down against the deck and releases an extraordinary amount of levin. Of course, he can't cover the entire the ship. But the system he put in place to help defend the ship can. All over are special nodes that once sparked will start a chain reaction of electrifying the ship, which will give the ship a nasty shock when it tries to smack it.
Thus while the ship is rocked, the squid's tentacles are forced away.
With a low exhale and shake of his wrist, he shouts up at Hawks.]
Get the net!
[Said net will have been prepped and some crewmen have it ready for Hwaks to grab and throw onto the squid.
But they need to act fast. Although momentarily stunned, that squid won't make it so easy!]

Any tentacle that gets too close is bombarded with more feathers. Hawks is still airborne though, so he hasn't lost that many, but each one cuts into the squid, which is a decent deterrent at least. ]

That tentacle smacks him right out of the sky and into the water with a harsh splash. No points on his diving score. That's going to sting. ]

Hawks!
[While he quickly commands a group to try and help pull him out, focus has to return back to the squid. If they can deal with that then it might be easier to get Hawks out.
Problem is, he has to make sure Hawks is far enough away that he doesn't get electrocuted from the net. So for now he'll do isolated lightning strikes that should at least keep the squid on them and as far away from where Hawks landed as possible.]

Get it together. [ He mutters, more annoyed at himself than anything. He did mention he is not a duck and is therefore not very buoyant. Good news is, he's been dumped in water before. No matter how awkward it looks, he ducks his face into the water so he can get his wings flat onto the surface, enough to flap them.
Hawks appreciates the offered help, but he just waves a bit. He's fine. He gets himself up out of the water after a moment or two, looking like a drowned rat with wings. He coughs a a little and realizes he needs to get a bit higher up so Cid doesn't get him.
At least with the fact his wings have gotten smaller, this is easier than it would be otherwise. ]

Due to its huge size, it's possible it doesn't kill it. But it should deal significant enough damage that it might just, anyway.]
no subject
It feels like he crashed into a billboard or something. He's definitely never done that before, definitely.
The lightning is impressive, and he's glad he's not still in the water. ]
no subject
You all right? If you need a medic we have one on hand.
no subject
Eh, nothing's broken. I'll be fine. I've taken worse hits.
[ It's just some bruising and he didn't hit his head or anything. All he's lost is some feathers in the end, and that's a very temporary problem. ]
no subject
[A wry grin as someone is already making their way and will hand Cid the towel to give to Hawks.]
But I think we've taken care of the squid at least.
no subject
Think we can convince this guy to head that way? I guess more to the point, need me to give it a shot?
no subject
Hmm, I think so if you feel up to it. We'll drag the squid away, and we still have a few crates left of the food you can use.
no subject
[ Hawks is nothing if not a professional and he's worked in all kinds of bad circumstances. One bad bone-rattling hit isn't enough to stop him.
Yet, with smaller wings he's a bit off-kilter. He's definitely going to need a ride back to shore. Aside from flight issues he makes the rest look easy.
Some food, some sweet talk. This is just like wining and dining an informant. Once the creature diverts, he zips back. Hopefully there will be some squid for dinner. If not, well, Sidestep gave him some rations.]
no subject
Looks like this is a success. Great work and thanks for the help, Hawks.
no subject
It was no trouble. I'm happy to help anyway. You don't mind if I catch a ride back do you? I could fly, but I'm a bit lopsided now.
no subject
[A grin.]
Unless you'd like to come back with us. I'd say you deserve at least sharing in this feast we've caught for ourselves.
no subject
Sure, that sounds great. I could eat a whole turkey!
[ Raptor sayings, what are you gonna do. ]
no subject
Unfortunately I don't think we have turkey, but I'm sure we have some other options to add to our feature dish.
[As the crew lashes the squid fast to the side of the ship, Cid will watch the giant fish slowly sink under the water. Did they really change things? Who knows, but they'll profit from this one way or another.]
But it really was quite impressive watching you, Hawks. Looks like you weren't bluffing about your skills.
However, what happened earlier?
no subject
Oh, uh, thanks. I've been a hero for...guess we had Christmas, so about six years now. Or almost six. [ Maybe, maybe not. Time's kinda wonky like that. ]
I know you saw me take a hit but did you mean the start? [ Hawks chuckles in a way that makes it look like he's embarrassed as he rubbed the back of his neck a little. ]
I didn't know the ocean was so loud. It really surprised me. I can pick up vibrations with my feathers that allow me to hear and see with them, and I wasn't expecting it. I've never sent my feathers into the ocean before, that's not usually where I end up fighting.
I already know that's not acceptable. Won't happen again.
no subject
No need to apologize, you came out all right in the end.
I wouldn't have considered the vibrations from the ocean, but I suppose it makes sense.
[A wry grin.]
Looks like you'll need to do some more training.
no subject
He certain now that Cid knows about this, like he suspects in Chris, he will probably be wary of him. Ah well, that's why he doesn't have any friends. ]
Not to worry. I'm used to training. I've been doing it for years. I shouldn't have gotten distracted and taken the hit either, but better me than your crew here in the ocean.
no subject
Mistakes happen. It's also my fault for not activating the net sooner.
[But he is looking at Hawks thoughtfully—or rather, with renewed interest.]
no subject
It all worked out in the end.
no subject
[A grin as he nods towards the squid dragged along by the ship.]
We won't be needing all of it, so in case they don't accept our efforts for the bounty on the fish, you are welcome to a share of what we can harvest from this. I wager you could get a decent price off the meat at least.
