[ for a man who is a busy philanthropist, he really did have a lot to say outside of his product. that's why surge has found herself in a room irritable, annoyed, and at first proving herself to be the bigger person. however, her own thoughts are negative, and while she hates everyone else, it's not like it doesn't reflect upon herself.

what did he mean by that. it's true she wants to be seen, by through her own methods, that doesn't mean how she's going about it is like him.

her heart runs rampant inside of her chest, she finds her back against the wall, then can feel herself curl up against herself. is she like him? is she trying to be better just like starline had started to see himself, to prove his worth. is she just like that? is she more like him than she realizes? her fingers curl into her pants, bringing her curled knees to hide her face.

she's shaking out of anger... fear?

a pop and fizzle of a lightbulb goes out and the room turns solid black, she hides within this cloak of darkness hoping to not be seen. she knows sometimes that old voice haunts much like his name, and she doesn't want to hear what he has to say. what if he comes back to agree, because he loves eggman's mind.

[ it doesn't take long for kit to wrap up with eggman and put his phone away. he's even considering blocking him for good measure, but that'll do less good on his phone than surge's. he'll think about it. for now, there are more important things to worry about.

like surge.

he knocks on the door before he opens it, but when he peers in, the inside of the room is in darkness. he can make out the shape of surge against a wall, but before he approaches: ]

... Surge?

[ is she okay...? ]

[ the tenrec flinches at the voice.

that's who she's supposed to be, but is she really who she wants to be? she doesn't even want to be this. it's hard to tell anymore when she thinks about it as no one has ever said that to her. her refocus is being a hero, but is that all wrong because of her need to upstage sonic much like starline who needed to outdo eggman? it's why they were created, she heard it herself, how the other would call the genius to his side and they would rule. ]

I dunno... anymore.

[ her faults is that her feelings rush over: fear, insecurity, anger, and it's obvious which one is winning out at the moment. she hates him, she doesn't want to be related to him, as soon as he was gone forever she was meant to be free, but it still circles back to the impression and marks starline has left on her mind.

the darkness isn't so comforting anymore, her ears angle flat against her quills. she leans closer into her knees to hide herself. ]

...I don't want to be... like him...

[ kit opens the door a little more as surge speaks, taking a step closer so that he can hear her. she's... having doubts. she doesn't know if she's like him. the anger that bubbles up in his stomach would be enough to make his blood boil, but that'sn ot the important part right now. the important part right now is to be there for surge.

he's across the room in an instant, closing the distance between himself and surge so that he can wrap his arms around her, squeezing her tightly, holding her close. his words spill out desperately, but honestly: ]

You're not! You're nothing like him, Surge... You're nice. A-and you always look out for me. You want to help people.

[ surge has moments like this sometimes, but that's why he's here—he'll always be here for her. to remind her of who she is and who she isn't. to support her no matter what he needs. that's exactly why kit squeezes even tighter. ]

I don't want to be...

[ isn't she thinking hard for them, like she may not use her brain, but she's trying to be her own person. even if "surge" isn't truly who she is, there's something that conflicts within her. as much as she's done, there's proof of it here, right? the way kitsunami's arms wrap around her for comfort. she can feel a few tears prickle out the corner of her eyes.

she cannot be like him, she has to do more to avoid that issue.

if she keeps helping people then maybe they can get out of this issue, it's always in connection to starline, but she doesn't want to be near him or relate to him anymore. even if she leans against the wall, the girl shifts into kitsunami's hold.

They will!

[ even if they don't see it right now, it's only because he and surge just got here. they haven't had a chance to prove that they're different, then people will understand. nobody should be listening to eggman anyway, he's eggman.

but kit? kit is determined. ]

I'll make sure they can see, Surge. Don't worry.

[ they should already see how loyal he is to her, isn't that enough? but it probably isn't. that's exaclty why he'll make more—really show people how good surge is, and how she's a hero in her own right, even more than sonic is. ]

[ why did she get sad, why does it scare her, but it's fine, she'll figure this out. because she shouldn't be breaking down over this minor inconvenience, it's eggman, and what does he know.

as unfortunate as it is, surge thinks over her issue, feeling a little uncool and disappointed in herself for upsetting kit. one hand comes to his back to pat it gently in a way to apologize, she doesn't say it aloud, but he should be familiar with the gesture. ]

We'll make them see... you're not alone in this, okay?

[ she can say that at least, and it's with a clear of her throat that the tenrec takes a deep breath. ] Starting with... that pink hedgehog. I told her I'd meet up.

[ ... ]

[ not alone—right, he's not alone. he and surge are partners, and even if he wants to carry the burden of taking care of surge, supporting her, making her happy, he still perks up at the mention that he's not alone. a smile draws across his face, looking up at surge hopefully as he lets her go. and then—

he frowns. ]

I don't like her. [ he'd told her as much the last time they'd met while she was conscious. ]

[ it's not surge's fault, that stupid girl was putting herself in trouble, and even surge ignored her at the start.

... that girl came back herself, she tried to warn surge, and even the tenrec doesn't understand why. her voice still wavers as she tries to collect herself. ]

She... [ there's some hesitance until surge clears her throat, raising her voice not in a bad way, but in a surge way. ] came back like a dummy! She should have left but nooooo!! Can you believe that!?

[ annoying girl, however. ]

When I blow Eggman and that two-tailed, sellout [ has anyone noticed her favorite word ] loser, I can push her into the fire or somethin'! She wants to make them pay so it's a win=win!

So... you want to work together with them for a common goal?

[ kind of like with starline, or with clutch, which both backfired on them? kit seems doubtful for a moment, rubbing his chin, but... ]

I-if that's what you want, Surge!

[ the fact of the matter is that even if it does blow up on them, kit will do his best to protect surge. and if it doesn't? maybe it will give them a chance to get that two-tailed sellout, too.

kit wouldn't mind that. ]

[ she knows what you're thinking. ]

I know... it's stupid, but it's the only way to get to where Eggman and the fox are. I don't know how to get there.

[ surge is willing to hear the other out if he thinks this is a mistake, but hopefully they're able to make something out of this. ]

It's not stupid!

[ the words are out of his mouth the moment she's said it. he'd never let surge think her ideas are stupid. ]

It's a good idea, I-I just didn't expect it.

[ but, give him a minute. hand to his chin, he's going to think this over. and his verdict. after all, surge is clearly thinking of him when she mentions that fox. the last thing that kit wants to do is neglect that. ]

I think it's worth a try...

There! See, it could work.

[ that said, where should she take kit? a little mischievous grin. ]

We can have a meet-up spot, and I'll bring her there. All we gotta ask is that she take us to give Eggman the pummelin' then we win!

[ she thinks that this is the smartest plan and amy won't even see right through it. ]

[ the grin is matched with a tentative smile from kit. ]

Y-yes, Ma'am. I'll follow your lead.

[ or, well, he'll try. kit has never been much of an actor or a liar, and he can't deny that he's unhappy at the prospect of seeing amy, but he'll do what they have to do. ]
