then he watches shadow eat his coffee beans like he's a zoo animal. ]

[They can give him all the weird looks, he doesn't care.]

Why do you think that? What do you know about me to think I listen to everything that idiot says? [He's not accusing them. He wants to know what they've been fed by...their creator or whomever else. Like what they've been led to believe about Sonic, his friends, Eggman, whatever else.]

the crunch when shadow bites down on the beans has kit make a face imagining the bitterness, but he can stay on track well enough. he looks to surge momentarily, as if silently asking permission to speak, before he mumbles something with his eyes on the table. ]

[ she smirks for a brief moment as she hears kit, her eyes glancing to him and then to the other. closing her eyes, the tenrec tries to imagine the little interest board that starline had made. ]

[ now two of those individuals belong to eggman, three, but she doesn't know your robotnik lore, shadow. even with that said, she can only grind her teeth in slight annoyance. ]

[ surge leans forward, a few sparks pop off her bracelet, dancing on the table and cause the glass cup to snap. water splashing on the table. ]

I want him dead. [The others can go on about whatever they think could happen. He still isn't convinced the doctor will ever change, if he hadn't bother the last ten or so something times. Leaves the question of why the ultimate lifeform hasn't dealt with it yet, and he expects them to question it.

But for now, he sets down the spoon as they provide new details about their creation. Things Sonic conviniently didn't mention, or perhaps he never knew. How did someone get a sample from him? ...Must have been from the doctor, from that time he was under his care after the fall from space. These two, having a piece of him inside them, not just Sonic. It may have been for just a moment, but there was a murderous glint in his eyes. They should not exist if they carry anything of him. A blink and the look was gone. He shouldn't, but he lets them continue on anyway.

Mr. Tinker comes up again. What was it and why didn't the others do something about "his greatest work"? Was it not deem a threat? There's just this growing irritation, these little things being left alone, details unknown to him that are really challenging him to hold his patience right now.]

So, I wasn't imagining who you were trying to replicate inside that leviathan. [His voice remains level, but the growing irritation is just waiting beneath the surface.] Fox, does that mean you were created with essence of the blue hedgehog's sidekick?

[Some of the water splashes onto his gloves. A child trying to hold back a tantrum. He brushes the water from his gloves.] This Starline. He was close to Eggman? [Hard to imagine the doctor allowing someone into his circle that easily.]

[ kit certainly doesn't change his tune to learn that shadow wants him dead. eggman might be the cause of all that's happened to them, but he's also needed if surge is going to become a hero—a great enemy to fight against, somebody to cause the problems. so kit's still looking rather distracted up until the water glass snapping on the table, and water spilling out.

he only frowns, eyes beginning to glow under his bangs as the water gathers into a ball, and kit tucks it away in his hydropack.

though he doesn't look like he's trying to show off, or even very impressed himself as his gaze lifts to meet shadow's. it's only for a moment before his eyes turn back to the other waitstaff in the restaurant, dressed up just the same as he is. ]

[ but that's not what's important right now. the next words aren't mumbled, they're said with a little more force behind them. ]

[ that feels like an insult to surge, especially knowing how she feels about her life in the shadow of sonic. ]

[ if he wanted him dead then why didn't he do so, this is the issue, if he wants him gone... where was the effort? he's no different than the blue one in his shape, the only difference is colors and what direction the spikes go. in the end, they're both allowing eggman to do whatever he wants. ]

Don't get the wrong idea. [ she leans forward, her own brows furrowing as she glares at the other where as the other held that brief intent to kill, though gone, the irritation and anger in her eyes never fade. ] I call him "creator" to mock his efforts, we are not created by him.

[ with a click of her tongue, she huffs after correcting him. when she thinks about it, he needs a little more direction because the path he's going down is only making things worse for him. ]

That hedgehog is nothing but a fake, I'm going to destroy him and do more than he ever could. [ it's the same with starline, she'll surpass all that he wanted her to be. a replacement of sonic? no, she'll become someone the people can count on and confide in, she'll remove the looming threats that put others in peril, she'll do what sonic could never. ] I'll defeat the enemies, I'll crush them under my heel, I'm not afraid of having blood on my hands to remove reoccurring problems!

[ is it wrong to be confident? she's being bold with her words, putting sonic's name on the chopping block, but that's how things will be. when she talks about him so much, she starts to wonder why is she here when he's out there. her mind running a mile a minute, she's becoming so irritated that she wants to take out all her anger on him. even as her hand shakes, she stomps her foot on the ground once with a groan. ]

For someone who is meant to be a "hero" and save people, all he does is put people in danger. I'll be a real hero, and I'll kill that faker.

[ as for starline, no, she's so pissed about this that she's already getting up and her chair slams against the table behind her. she has to take her frustrations out on something, it drives her crazy knowing how close starline wanted to be to eggman. ]

If it wasn't for Sonic's meteorocricy, I wouldn't have to know how close Starline and Eggman were!

[ because she's up, there is a cook who's smacking together a knife and fork to get surge's attention. they point at her indicating that she needs to take someone their food, and it's with a growl that she leaves from the table to go do that. ]

He is a nobody in this world. [He'll cut through her ranting about Sonic the faker, Sonic the hero. All this talk, but nothing he's seen from them has impressed him. Your time here is better spent proving to the mass that you can be the so-called hero you keep raving about.

[They seem to like making a big show of things. So he's playing into that, thinking if they don't get a show from outing Sonic, they would focus their efforts on where they would. He leans back, crossing his arms. He's now left with the fox, a glance as the tenrec stomps off to handle an order.]

Would you say Starline was devoted to the Doctor's work then? Or using him to work towards his own goals? [Perhaps the Fox will give him a more level headed answer.]

[ the words don't come as such a surprise to kit. he might even go so far as to agree—their first priority is to make surge a hero. at least, his is. sonic is secondary. why does shadow think they're working here instead of trying to find him right this moment?

but speaking of this moment, kit's about to follow after surge, actually. he's sliding off his seat, but then that hedgehog speaks again, and surge disappears into the kitchen as kit's attention is pulled back to shadow... ]

[ there's a moment where he considers just... not answering. he doesn't like shadow. he doesn't want to talk to shadow. it's as simple as that to him, but... he knows that surge must have a reason for hearing him out. that's why he'll finally mutter an answer. ]

He was devoted...

[ perhaps not in his methods, but in his goals. ]

...So he fancied himself the doctor's understudy then. [He still can't believe anyone would want to try and be like the Doctor. Then again, there will always be people who will needlessly be cruel, and he will despise the fickle nature of others. He ponders for a moment, whether to let the fox go and wait for the tenrec to come back to continue.

They don't speak much. They seem only focused on supporting Surge when they do. Even when he observed them inside that cave...

[ fine, kit will pull himself back up into his seat. he still doesn't make eye contact, but the way he opens his mouth, huffs, closes it. he clearly knows what to say. should he say it? surge isn't here. he doesn't know. he isn't sure. biting his tongue momentarily, he'll make a decision: ]

[ they'll hear a loud voice coming from the side, and surge has returned with a couple of plates stacked on top of each other. breakfast, lunch, and dinner portions as far as she's concerned. setting them down where she was sitting previously, the girl sits down with her feast. ]

[ she's interrupting them not really know what they had been talking about, and not like she cares. she's pretty sure they've been staring at each other the entire time.

the first plate? seven belgian waffles with lobs of butter smothered on top, and some sort of honey glaze drizzled around the corners and little mixed fruits on the side. bacon cut into thin strips, some black, some a pretty decent brown... whatever happened there, that doesn't stop her as she picks one up to bite down on. ]

You know, Starline was disgusting. If you look at my body, he chose something so close to that weird hog, the whole tan limbs thing. Super weird.

[ she looks to shadow's arms which are one solid color, she's noticed amy also has this... oddity, but it's whatever. ]

Then Kit here, a whole fox. [ she'll use her free hand to pull at one of those big ears. ] But you, what was so special about you that he went out of his way to take somethin'?

[He doesn't doubt what Kit says. Their words came from the heart when he brings up her smile. So there was a point that Surge did smile. And Sonic wasn't dead for it to happen. The timing of the other's return couldn't have come at a worse time. He just gives her the side eye as she comes back with a comically large amount of food. Did she go on break? The establishment lets them have all that? Whatever. Long as she doesn't cover him in that nasty food.

She gets an eyebrow raise when asked what made him special. Really? Nothing in Starline's notes about him?] I am the Ultimate Lifeform. [That's all that needs to be said. He sets aside a few coffee beans, caught in some glaze and jelly that reached over. His eyes wander a few times to the fox. Their conversation wasn't finished. He looks to Surge, grossly devouring her first plate.]

[ how else is she going to get back all those calories she burns on running? obviously he's missed a plot point here.

not that kit's about to be the one to correct him. he's too focused on surge coming back, watching her attentively and letting her pull on his ear to make a point. though, when she lets go, each of his hands wraps around one ear to hold them—as if for comfort. ]

[ he's said what he's got to say to this black and red hedgehog, so it's her turn to talk now. ]

[ she's waiting to hear what it is starline left out of the data they saw from him. what's something they don't know that they can compare to themselves to see what connects them. what can he do? who is he?

the curiosity in surge's eyes only grow as she stares while taking another bite of her bacon until it comes from the other and she inhales. surge coughs, the dry piece of food caught in her throat as she bangs her fist on the table as she looks away trying to get herself together. after each cough, it turns into a chuckle, and then a full blown laugh. ]

W— WHAT!? Noooooooooooooooo!! Really!? Pfft..

[ surge clears her throat, looking back up at shadow's face and he looks so serious that it makes his confession a little more... funnier than it should be. ]

Why do you look like Sonic with a different paint job. The hedgehog form is really gassed up around here!!! Anyway, tell it to me straight, what is it about you that made him go "This individual has what it takes to be an asset in ending the Sonic Cycle."

[ she doesn't mean to laugh, but now she's focusing on catching her breath.

now she has to focus on his question as she tries not to laugh in his face because who knew he could do jokes? the form, alright. ]

[ she's not on break, but she's done what she had to do back there to be given something to chew on. it's like taking samples but in really big portions, there's nothing here that the other probably wants. ]

[ that's normally how it is, isn't it, but that's what they get to be treated differently than everyone else because of where their hatred goes. to sonic. to eggman. to every person who allowed sonic the freedom to make certain decisions.

it's not like hiding who they are does anything, they'll hear it sooner or later, and surge takes one of the waffles off the plate to break apart. ]

You act super old, and you eat bitter treats like someone's grandpa. Is that it? The whole white patch is an age thing?

[ it's not like they ever got to finish searching, it was more so who cares about those bozos and looking into who surge and kit used to be. they found nothing, and everything else to be scrubbed through was interrupted by someone.

if the information was there, they didn't have the time.

even with the lack of information, it does make surge curious, who is he? it's obvious he doesn't know who they are, doesn't know who starline is either. this is enough for her to tell he's not from their time. ]

All you eat is beans... kinda borin' if you ask me.

[ shadow glances in his direction again, and kit glances awkwardly to the side, unsure of what he's done to attract so much attention from the hedgehog. when he returns his gaze, it's in his best attempt to give another glare for talking down to surge. ]

Yes. [If they were expecting him to provide information back, that was a miscalculation on their part. He already told them the only thing that matters about him anyway.]

And I've concluded that you're both nothing more than misguided children. [Confused, upset children. Still, it be foolish of him to take them lightly. So he will act accordingly if they choose to continue to misbehave. He moves to stand, this conversation likely coming to an end.] Killing Sonic won't bring the happiness you think it will. Figure out what will while you're in this world.
