[Seeing as it's an absolutely insane time to be awake, you bet your ass Sonic grabbed a coffee on his way over. Between getting up before dawn and sleeping like crap lately (y'all might be giving him anxiety ok), dude's exhausted.

He arrives at the loop de loop what he thinks is a few minutes early, hoping to have enough time to caffeinate before it's time to talk. Or probably get kicked in the head. Maybe both. Either way, he pops the lid off his cup and just tries to take a second to wake up. If he hadn't just happened to glance up when taking a sip of his coffee, Surge might have landed that blow right on his fat stupid head. But he did look up, and instinctively darts out of the way to avoid her.

Spilling coffee all over himself isn't how he'd envisioned this conversation starting, but here we are. With a sigh, he tosses his now empty cup aside and squares up.]

Hey, Surge. Are we talking, or are we fighting?

[PLEASE SAY TALKING...]

Don't act STUPID. You think I'mma come here and just TALK to you?

[ like someone civilized? hell no, the smartest choice would be to race him and talk, but she's always been violent. racing is not violent enough unless she can run him over. ]

You know how this goes! Nothing is goin' to change so treat every encounter with me like life or death.

[ she brings the back of her hand to her palm smacking them together with a glare, sparks coming from the contact. don't act like things are different, don't he dare think that they can do something normal. that's not how this works. her ears twitch, she takes a step forward with a few sparks snapping around on the ground that comes from her shoes. they're staying close to surge as she hasn't started to direct her attacks towards him yet. ]

You're supposed to survive everything else but me. You're supposed to know this, Blue. How dare you even forget!?

[ yeah, she's going to dash right towards him to try and grab his arm, if not, she'll make sure to avoid physical contact and send an electrical current right towards where he's drenched himself with the coffee once close enough. ]

[It's fine, adrenaline is just as good as caffeine.

Being electrocuted might wake him up more too, but he's not interested in letting her get her zappy little hands on him again. He may avoid being grabbed by zipping to her side to flank her, but the electrical current ripping through him is enough to freeze him to the spot for a second and stop him from retaliating.

Maybe it's time to air dry that fur real quick.]

I haven't forgotten that. I'm just choosing to ignore it, just like I do every time Eggman says it. You want me so bad? Then you better keep up.

[With that he abruptly breaks off, blasts through the loop de loop, and takes off up the path. Surely someone as badass as Surge will be able to keep up in a simple race, right??]

[ of course, someone as badass as surge can definitely run after sonic, he may have gotten a head start, but there's a reason she came here early. one foot after the other, she takes the straight path with a crackle of electricity trailing off her body. she can follow him, she can do better than him to the point she'll crush him underneath her heel. ]

You belong to me! You can't even kill Eggman because you're WEAK. You think sayin' you ignore me like you do him means ANYTHING?

[ she pushes herself, winding around the loop de loop right behind the hedgehog. the bracelets around her wrist start to spark with electricity, and once she's close enough, the tenrec will punch at the ground sending waves of electricity to make it explode under sonic's footing. if it leaves a pretty sizeable crate in the loop de loop path, then it's whatever! ]

HOW DARE YOU GET TO FORGET BUT ALL I CAN REMEMBER IS YOU, YOU, YOU!?

[ to have the audacity to forget the race, that really pisses her off.... ]

I belong to you? I don't think I'm ready for that level of commitment!

[Sorry Surge, he can't help at least ONE quip. It's all he can really get off anyway before he needs to focus on his footwork, his answer to the sudden exploding ground being to roll into a spin dash and ride the momentum of the blast until he's cleared the damaged ground. Once clear of any resulting rubble, he bounces back to his feet and boosts ahead, though not so far that he can't shout to her over his shoulder.]

In all seriousness though! The last time I saw you back home was when you almost killed me in a puddle! I ended up here like right after that. Maybe a few days? People don't always get brought here from the same point in time, so it's more likely that the sweepstakes thing just hasn't happened for me yet, not that I've forgotten anything!

[ don't look down on her and don't think she can't keep up with him, she was made in his image after all. she has to do everything to surpass him, and it's with this in mind that she blinks and electricity makes her iris, practically radiating outside of her eyes as another source of power for her to use.

jumping off this ramp to the second on the side, the tenrec flips, both hands landing on the ground with ease as she rolls onto her feet and begins running. there's a gap between them on where they run, and in the distance these two ramps will combine.

If I kill you here, does that mean your future will be taken away!? Does that mean you'll taste what I suffer through because of you!?

[ but she doesn't wait for the ramps to combine, instead she jumps up to grab a dangling vine to swing herself other to cut the hedgehog off. surge makes sure to release it, sending a diving kick in his direction with only her leg engulfed in electricity.

she's not going all out, but she is testing the waters. sonic knows she can be more violent, more erratic. ]

That way you won't disappoint the people around you by ruining the race, aren't I so KIND!?

[ignoring yet another death threat, he's more focused on watching surge's movements and trying to predict where she'll end up in the next like threeeeeeish seconds-

He abruptly hits the breaks, skidding to a stop just short of where it looks like Surge is about to land, and quickly juking around and past her. It isn't lost on him that she's holding back, but he still doesn't want to get hit.]

I would assume if I died here, I wouldn't be alive back home? Might create a time paradox or something? I dunno, I'm not smart enough to science all that out!

[That's why he keeps Tails around obviously.]

I still don't know how I ruined this race, y'know! You're hittin' me with a lot of gotchas that are just over my head right now!

[ that's right, they're here because of that. if he doesn't know then it's that time thing he's talking about. does he really only remember his was-to-be-death or is he fucking with her? either way, cutting him off is what matters, and she takes a step towards him with a growl. her ears twitch as she listens for if any of the grass nearby sonic's shoes rustle indicating he's trying to ditch. ]

In some time, you'll become the Phantom Rider. Stupid name, I know.

[ she doesn't allow for him to leave though, she moves first, wanting to kill the distance between him. surge reaches out to grab his wrist, but if he focuses on moving to the side to avoid, it's only so that she can distract him and follow up with a thunderpunch instead... striking him right in his shoulder, she's trying to dislocate a bone here. ...teehee... ]

All suited up, no one would have known it was you! You looked so stupid!

[Unfortunately for Sonic, he's more interested in getting information out of her than he is in ditching her. Still, the less he's electrocuted the better, so he does shift to avoid being grabbed. Aaand then takes the full force of her punch to the shoulder. Is it dislocated? Hard to say, but after using the momentum of that blow to dive into a spin dash and put some space between them, the arm is hanging uselessly at his side once he hops back to his feet.]

Now we're gettin' somewhere. Do you happen to know why I decided to roll in with a disguise and a corny super hero name? Doesn't really seem like my style, but I don't really have a reason not to believe it either.

[ she moves closer to him, a growl under her breath as sonic manages to keep his distance. surge knows why he's doing this, she gets what he's up to, in order to avoid fighting he'll stay away, but close enough to listen. ]

Fight ME.

[ if she has to tell him what's going on, she at least wants to kill him all while doing so. there's that anger bubbling up inside of her again as he speaks to her so friendly, as if it's like playful banter. electricity clicks around her bracelet, running up the length of her body and snapping at the top of her quills. ]

If you wanna know you're gunna have to do somethin' other than run away!

[ besides, she doesn't wait for him to strike first, she'll chase after sonic herself with electricity trailing behind her body in a blur. ]

Let me break your arm and I'll fill you in!

[He heaves a sigh, but ultimately he's not surprised that Surge is going to make this as hard as she possibly can.]

Okay, okay, no more goofin', I'll fight you!

[He really doesn't feel like it, but maybe giving her what she wants will make her run her mouth more? Who knows, man.

He's not quite done dodging though. When she charges at him he leaps into the air over her, but he does risk getting zapped by spin dashing towards the back of her head.]

[ as she skids against the ground, paired with the spindash against her head, the tenrec is pushed forward almost falling off of the track. she manages to catch herself, eyes glaring at the hedgehog as she turns around to face him. ]

Take me seriously, all you do is make fun OF MY LIFE!?

[ sonic never does anything that makes her happy, his actions only make her angrier, makes her goal feel even more distant. what about him makes a hero when all he's done is take away her life? ]

Why you wore that stupid get up, don't ask me, but those stupid Diamond Cutlass or whatever they were played security. No one knew it was you at the time, so imagine their face when they learned, the oh-so great hero, Sonic the Hedgehog, was ruinin' the restoration's reputation and their partnership!?

[ she'll dash towards sonic, one hand reaching out, and if she's lucky, she's going to watch to grab his neck to spin him right into the side of the loop de loop... and if it's with enough strength to take a chunk out upon impact, it'll make her happy. ]

What? I'm not making fun of your life, I'm not doin' anything I don't normally do in a fight!

[Dumb quips and banter is the Sonic way, Surge! Don't take it so personally???

Anyway LUCKY HER, Sonic's a little more focused on what she's saying than the fight itself. One small misstep and she's snatched him by the throat and crunches him into the loop de loop, taking out a nice big chunk. Good job Surge you did it!!

Not much liking his current position, Sonic kicks himself free of the nice crater his ass left in the loop de loop, aiming another spin dash at Surge to knock her back some and give himself a little room to recover.]

Technically, I'm not with the Restoration. But sure, the way you describe it, it all does sound pretty sus! Can't think of a reason I'd deliberately ruin a race, though. Who was running it?

[ she remembers that small threat sonic, she remembers it well, because given the choice she would have been the one to cause destruction. it was that look in his eyes, the way he was willing to fight against her, how it makes her stomach twists that even then she should have killed him.

quick on her toes, the tenrec jumps out of the way of sonic's incoming spin dash. as soon as he hits the ground, surge attempts to match his pace. limit her movements, make sure to move, when he stays in one place too long then try and close the distance.

being asked who ran it does get under her skin, another one of those fool's who wanted to control her. another mistake she made along the way. she stands in place, her hand curling into a fist as sparks pop off the bracelet she wears. it's almost like he woke up a memory she's been trying to forget. ]

Someone I would have killed if you didn't get in the way. Maybe I should have taken care of that damn hedgehog problem like! He! ASKED!

[ it comes out like a shriek, a snap of electricity covering her whole body that sounds like a roar of thunder as she takes a step towards the other, then the energy disappears as she tells herself she doesn't need it. she can handle this with her fist and scarce amount of electricity. ]

[Sonic would be lying if he said he wasn't relieved that Surge decided not to zap the absolute hell out of him. Punching he can handle, it's less likely to stop his heart or something.

He hops back to his feet after missing with his spin dash, ready to move whenever it looks like Surge is ready to start pounding on him again]

So the guy who's race I ruined is someone you worked for, but also want to kill. And he has a problem with me. So a bad guy ran the race?

What makes a "bad guy" Sonic?

[ surge glares, her patience wearing thin. if they look at it from an outside perspective, sonic was the hero playing the bad guy, but still a bad guy because he wouldn't tell anyone what was going on. sure, others came to realize when it's sonic, it's something good, but their stupidity travels in packs. ]

You're the worst bad guy here. Again, something like that would have never happened if you were dead.

[ she takes a step forward, looking where he is before disappearing in a flash in an attempt to kick him in his side. the thing is, she doesn't expect this to hit, because it feels like she's not putting enough anger into it. ]

[Sonic's already gone by the time she arrives, the dirt and grass he'd kicked up settling back to the ground as he reaches his new perch atop the loop de loop. She could have still hit him if she'd really wanted to, the fact that she wasn't displaying her usual level of murderous rage doesn't go unnoticed.]

Well, I like to think I'm not so bad, but it's really all a matter of perspective, isn't it? You know what they say, 'everyone's the hero of their own story'. Call me arrogant, but I admit, I never really expected to become the villain of someone else's. But here we are, huh?

[He's her bad guy. That doesn't feel great! He fully expects all this to just piss her off more, if only because everything he says seems to just piss her off, but this is probably the most willing to talk that he's ever gotten her.]

I wanna make things right with you, Surge. I really do, but I'm not just gonna let you kill me. If all you really want to do is to keep trying that though, then so be it, but what if you succeeded? Would you really be satisfied?

I hate you. I hate you.

[ over and over again, it's what she knows. she hates him, she dislikes him, she will never be able to remove that feeling. never has she thought of a life where she could see him as a friend, he'll remain a foe for everything he's done to her. she crouches down, her hands coming down against her head to cover her ears. ]

You... don't. You want to hurt me... like everyone else...

[ it's like she's hiding, but who knows.

everyone wants to hurt her, no one is trustworthy, even if she tries to do the right thing people are judgmental because it's not their way. her fingers tremble on top of her head. ]

Everyone will hurt me... because of you, everyone will hurt us...

[Man, this is hard to watch. She's obviously suffering, but there isn't anything he can do to make it better. Aside from die, apparently, but that's not really in the cards. What good is being a hero if you can't even help the person right in front of you?]

I don't want to hurt you, Surge. You or Kit. I never did, and I don't want anyone else to hurt you, either. I don't like hurting people, I don't even like beating up on Eggman when he deserves it.

[He can't tell if she's just getting angrier or if she's actually stopping to think about what he's saying, but either way he doesn't let his guard down just yet. He does try to appear more relaxed though, less threatening, whatever to ease the tension. Assuming that's even possible.]

[ his words hurt, there it is, the very reason why she even exists, why everyone hates her, why she has nothing. sonic doesn't like hurting people, but why is he hurting her? does he know that keeping eggman alive is why she's like this, why she was taken advantage of. no one saved her.

if she didn't figure it out herself she'd still be in the same predicament. ]

[ slowly she stands up, her hand held out, fingers twitching before pulling away. that isn't anything she can do, can she really do this?

she tries again, like she's willing to offer her hand. ]

[This feels like a trap, and mister 'tries to look for the good in everyone' is going to hop down from the loop de loop and willingly step right into it. He closes the distance between them, holding his hand out in the same manner, but doesn't just grab hers yet. He'll let her make that move, and if she's just going to use his stupid good nature against him in order to zap his brains out or something, so be it.]

Look, I'm not asking you to be my best friend, or to even like me or anything. I'm just gonna ask for a chance to prove that I'm not the horrible monster you think I am. Can you grant me that?

[ she doesn't expect him to close the distance really. her eyes note the tips of his shoes close by, and surge's breath hitches. her eyes flicker up to meet the other's gaze, and the expression on her face is of someone who doesn't know if that's true. skeptical, afraid, frightened that he may be lying to her. it's why she takes his hand, white glove wrapping around his own, her grip tightens to pull herself up so she can meet him face to face. ]

...I know, we can't be best friends. [ her words are pretty soft, volume only growing lower. ] We can't be anything positive.

[ it's almost... upsetting to say, how is surge able to feel this range of sadness compared to her anger is amazing. but part of her seems willing to move on. her other hand lifts up to touch at his shoulder as she looks down. ]

I'm... afraid...

[ she whispers, her head leans forward pressed against his chest as her body shakes, her grip on his shoulder tightening again to keep herself up. ]

I'm. Afraid.

[ surge admits this easily, her voice cracking as her hand relaxes on the hedgehog's shoulder, and loathe as one is to admit through text, those quills of hers may hit against his face for just a bit. with sonic close like this, what sounds like broken bits of sobbing has a quick shift, her grip growing on his hand, and the hand on his shoulder is quick to grab his throat. electricity pops off her bracelets and around the hairband that she wears, she lifts her head up with a wild expression in her eyes. ]

I'm fuckin' afraid you got the wrong gal! You've had thousands of chances to make it up to me, and you failed each and every one.

[ electricity snaps again, this time it's going to reach sonic as a whole because her whole body is covered in the energy, quick to consume the other hedgehog, and if she's able, she's going to push him down onto his back while choking him. ]

I've granted you so much when I didn't exist, so grant me somethin' Sonic the Hedgehog! Just die! Don't let anyone else kill you here, let me be the one to end your pathetic life for all the pain you've given to me!

[Whether she's being sincere or she's just a really good actor, she has Sonic convinced that they're actually making some real progress. He can accept that they can't be friends, he can even accept that she doesn't want any positive relationship with him at all, he just wants her to be able to heal and let herself be free from all the anger and hatred. Maybe this is the first step towards that? Maybe Sonic's insistence that he really doesn't want anything bad for her is finally getting through to her--

And then she's got him by the throat and starts going off like she always does, and suddenly Sonic's very much regretting getting within grabbing distance of her.]

Waitwaitwait--

[Turns out trying to pull away is pretty difficult when you're being electrocuted. His knees give out, so Surge wouldn't have a difficult time pushing him down. He catches himself with an elbow, the only thing keeping him from ending up flat on his back, and he grabs her wrist with the other hand to try to pull her hand from his throat. Considering the electrocution and the strangling, any meaningful reply is going to have to wait.]

Shut up!

[ there's a bite in her words, as annoying as sonic can be, if only surge could pull the plug in real time. he's so durable, so all she has to do is go harder, push past the limits of her creation and if she died in her attempt to kill him then it sounds worth it. ]

I... hate you so much. [ her hands tighten, he can feel the sharp nails underneath her gloves press against his body. electricity wildly rushes off her body, some sparks hitting against the ground, other snapping into the air causing the air around them to get hotter and hotter. as it stretches off her body, the hedgehog may be taking the brunt of it, and some strikes might cut at his skin, but a burn mark miiiiight be left around his neck from how she won't let up, as she's forcing all the pressure she can down onto his throat.

her irises spark, a zig-zag pattern as they no longer keep their form as she glares down at the other. everything is his fault. ]

You think anythin' you say can fix what you did to me! This life is shit because of you! I don't even know what my life was before this all because you hate hurtin' people! YOU HURT ME, I'M HURTING BECAUSE OF YOU!

[ if anything, surge wants to hurt him back, she wants to take everything away from him because she has nothing left. no friends, no companions, just whatever fucked up place that starline put her in because of his fascination with eggman, and who allowed that to happen? she's incapable of forgiving him or even feeling as though things could change, because nothing has, even if he's "here" in this world, when she was in the other, still nothing good happened. ]

You will never know what it's like! You know who you are!? But who AM I? You took that from me, I hate you, [ like a mantra, it leaves from her lips honestly, because she believes it, she knows it. ] I hate you, I want you dead! [ his earlier question resurfaces in her mind, and she thinks she should give him that luxury at least. ] You asked me would I be satisfied with you dead?

[ is he listening, he better be, because she'll knee him right in his stomach to try and cause discomfort, make him choke on his breath from the force. ]

I was made to finish what you started, and when you're gone, I'll be happy.

[ is that true? it has to be because there's nothing about sonic that means anything to her. he's friends with others, not with her, he's ruined anything she could have ever had. once he's gone, the possibilities will open up for her, anything and everything she wants to pursue will be easier as soon as this damn hedgehog is out of her head. ]

[He is listening. Somehow. Despite the blinding pain and the lightheadedness, he takes in everything she has to say. Even if it is the same things she always says. I hate you, I want you dead, it's your fault, you ruined my life. How much of this is genuine hatred and how much of it is Starline's programming? Does that even matter? At the end of the day, the result is the same. She's still going to try to kill him, over and over and over, and he's just going to keep defending himself and trying to get her to see reason. Has there ever been a better example of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object?

Man, life would be so much easier if he would just take Shadow's advice and destroy his enemies permanently. Maybe trying so hard with Surge really is just a futile effort, maybe Sonic should just stop holding back and take care of the problem so that he doesn't have to keep looking over his shoulder everywhere he goes.

Who is he kidding, of course he's not going to do that. He'd never be able to forgive himself.

Anyway, she'd answered his question. As things are right now, he can only answer with an understanding nod. Going forward, they were going to keep butting heads like this. Fine. He gets it, but he'll have to wait until later to be disappointed about it. He abruptly releases her wrist, his hand shooting up to grab her by the ponytail so he can yank her head down. Shoving off the ground with his other hand, he tries to headbutt her in the nose with his forehead. If he can stun her, he can probably get himself free, and considering his current position he's not above fighting dirty.]
