[ now what the hell is this? it's all flames getting everywhere, and surge even stomps her shoe down to prevent it from moving any closer. that was just a small one, but the magitek appears to be putting out all the smoke at an alarming rate as it continues. with her powers, that'll only make it worse, that's why she's scratching her head before looking at kitsunami. ]

So you're gunna stand right next to me and douse it.

[ her first initial idea would be to pick it up and carry it off, but that would be bad for her, and who knows if it'll explode again.

two. if she gets kit to do it, it really is like she did something because who was chain of command here? is it impressive, close enough, but she'll snap her fingers at the fox so that he can focus on her. she's not too sure what conversation he's having with della at the moment. ]

And you, the floor is gunna get pretty hot, so...

[ and it's without della's permission will surge walk over, picking the duck up to prevent any of the heat coursing through the ground to get that flipper of hers, or this iron foot she's lugging around. ]

[ Della tries to look over the fire and surrounding effects quickly. As much as logic would say otherwise, sometimes water isn't always the best solution to put out a fire. Electrical and oil fires mean water can actually make it worse - and given this is a tavern, both are possible. Does Magictek count as both or neither?

She knows this world can be both behind and ahead of technology, so right now her biggest goal is to see if they actually have fire extinguishers. ]

Do either of you see a bright red canister on the walls, because that'll be best for -

[ OH GODDAMMIT SURGE, NOT NOW. ]

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

[ della sounds concerned, probably rightfully so, but surge's orders are orders. sparing only a glance to see della get picked up, kit focuses on sending water in the direction of the flames. but, just as the streams from his hydropack seem about to touch and douse them, they fan out, the sheet of water wrapping around the flames like a blanket to suffocate them.

kit's assessed that enough damage has been done to the restaurant, and more importantly, surge has managed to get some attention by saving people—della as a witness. there's no reason to draw the situation out.

before long, there are only the hot, smoldering remains of what's left of the room. ]

[ della may complain, she may even curse, but the tenrec jumps up onto a table leaving kit to do the work. ]

Look, Chick. If somethin' happens to you, I'm gunna have to explain. I ain't tryna explain shit.

[ it's only that she sees there's no reason to, she got chewed out already for not having enough information about her last dilemma, and who is going to listen to them about della? the girl has connections, better ones than surge does, so she has to be careful about it. ]

If you wanna go around and try to die, do it, but not around me.

[ because even though she's trying to help, what if that thing exploded and she got hurt.

at least with them it's not like they can't fix what's broken. ]

'Sides, you get hurt, I'd have to tend to you every minute, now is that somethin' you'd want? [ wink. ]

[ But it's too late, the water is out! Della winces... and then lets out a huge sigh of relief. Okay, good, not electrical or grease. And from the sound of things, there doesn't seem to be another explosion on the way.

Despite the awkward position she's in, she can still feel confident enough to give out more advice. ]

... See if you can open some windows, there's still going to be plenty of smoke for a while. And both of you, loosen the clothes around your neck, it'll help you breathe easier. Sometimes smoke inhalation doesn't catch up until later. If either of you get headaches, dizzy, or nauseous, go see a doc right away.

Surge knows what she's doing.

[ just so della knows, surge is aware. she might not actually know what she's doing, but even if she doesn't, kit does. that's their partnership.

that's why he looks at surge for a moment for approval before he trots to the nearest window, beginning to open them up one by one. he ignores the instructions about his clothes and the headaches though. he really doubts that will be an issue, and instead, makes his way back to some of the scattered pieces of the magitek generator to poke at them and see what was wrong with it. ]

Who the hell are you to call the people sufferin' a fuckin adventure!?

[ this is one reason she couldn't stand sonic, his whole life an adventure, eggman just an obstacle in his adventure and leaving that man alive is what made who surge is today. adventuring has nothing to do with this, this is life or death, and even surge growls under her breath as she glares at the woman in her arms. ]

I'm tryin' here, workin' my ass off to keep you from makin' a mistake and this is what all this looks to you? A game?

[ it's like della got under her skin with just a simple word, even the orders she gives out causes surge to bend her fingers into the attire della wears. though, she closes her eyes, a horrible attempt to calm herself down.

she clicks her tongue. ]

You shut your beak and follow your own damn directions, because if somethin' happens to you, and you're in my vicinity. I'll never hear the end of it, even when I'm doin' this to keep YOU safe.

[ she shifts one hand to grab at the girl's collar to loosen it instead, she tugs pretty hard which will cause discomfort. it's not they're like her anyway, they won't get headaches. it's without warning that surge jumps through the crack of a window, della in tow as her feet touches the ground. she walks, smoke still lingering on her skin, and there are others who are looking towards the building wondering when all three would come out. they only see two, but surge is dropping della on her ass here. ]

[ Well, when she's one of the ones suffering because of YOU YOUNG LADY, then she feels just fine saying the word.

And then they're out! Della coughs a few times at the influx of smoke and the hard landing, pounding at her chest. She gives Surge a silent glare, and then goes to check her leg. Good, all functioning.

She stands up, brushes herself off, and looks over the crowd. ]

Who's in charge of this place? We're gunna need a good headcount to make sure everyone got out of there.

[ She begins approaching the crowd to help the count, but just as one of them starts to speak... ]

Oh, and before anyone gets any funny ideas...

[ She jerks a thumb back to Surge and Kitsunami. Despite all that's happened, despite all the harshness exchanged, despite the anger and humiliation, she says... ]

... Those two did all the work. I was just the passerby.

[ at first, kit is a little bit apprehensive as della begins to lead the headcount, but she quickly turns the spotlight back to surge and kit, pulling a round of applause from those who had just evacuated the premises. there are even a few hoots and hollers from the guests, not all being entirely sober, who were personally escorted out by surge in the chaos.

kit shrinks into himself a little, but makes sure to look up at surge. get a sense for how she's feeling, given this positive reinforcement.

all according to plan...

with a tentative smile on his face, kit will approach della once the noise has died down. ]

Should we help...?

[ a chance for some of the people surge saved to get to know her? though some are already approaching della, seeming expectant as if she knows what to do here. ]

[ Della looks at Kitsuami, looking exhausted from... well, everything. But she still wants to help people, and give the little guy any assistance he wants. ]

Only if you guys have the energy for it. You both did a lot already, so nobody's going to hold it against you if you need a breather.

[ She then rolls her shoulders with a sigh, trying to survey the area. ]

All right, headcount's first, and we'll see if anyone's injured... help them get into contact with their families, if they don't have their phones on them. And the Paladins will probably want a word or two from us.

[ ah, della makes a good point, and additionally, she already turned an additional spotlight on surge on top of surge's actual rescues. kit doesn't think that she's going to be too upset to miss some of the more administrative cleanup now that everyone's safe, and overall, this has been a great success as far as kit's concerned.

so della's already wandered off towards the crowd to help, and kit's going to trot his way back to surge. ]

Do you want to help? Um... We don't have to though.

[ at that, he'll offer a wide smile. ]

Since you already saved them.

[ usually surge would be cocky about it, give a damn right and move on, but this doesn't really like "their save" to her. della did most of the work right, with the people, and surge does go by anything kit does immediately is credit given to her. for a moment, she's over-thinking it as she glances back at the building. ]

...Uh, yeah.

[ she shakes her head. ] I'm gunna talk to the chefs about what happened, get an understandin' of what they know.

[ as she does that, she'll make sure to get in contact with anyone that they need like... this place version of a hospital and such. surge lifts her hand as she points to the group of workers adorned in white, and one even holding a chef's hat to their chest while trembling. ]

I'll handle that, and you guys got the customers?

[ she doesn't even wait for a response as she's already on her way. ]
