Shellton | Eltrut | "Movable Type" Bookshop - OTA
[While there are many things to see and do throughout the wide world of Escordvi, Dion has started small and has started by taking time for leisure, something he rarely had time for in Valisthea, and so he was browsing shelves, surprisingly vast ones, in a bookshop off the main market. Mostly, the tall blond is keeping himself to the non-fiction section, amazed at the sheer number of titles spanning the shelves. It would seem printing was a thing here, as the typewriter which initiated him suggested, and he's rarely seen so many books collected in one place.

So much knowledge is collected here he hardly knows where to begin, and so he might turn to a fellow browser, leaning slightly so as to keep his voice low.]

Begging your pardon, of course, could you perchance suggest a title? I've no idea where to begin.

Eltrut | A Clearing Outside Shellton | OTA
[He's received a word of warning from Jill regarding the potential potency of Bahamut, which only serves to further reinforce the caution Benedikta instilled in him, and so in an effort to assure he's prepared to aid those here in whatever capacity he is able, Dion has found a suitable clearing outside the port in order to acclimate to the way his Aether pools in this place.

The prince is clad in his mithril armor for no other reason than it serves the purpose of protection and doesn't force him to spend doubloons he'd rather keep for food, and sets about moving through warm-up drills first: simple polearm forms designed to get his muscles loose and to work out the stiffness from his joints he always experiences in association with the Crystal's curse that's slowly turning all Bearers and Dominants to stone.

He'll welcome the company, and is more than game to spar with anyone looking to hone their skills or keep themselves sharp. He'll offer an amicable smile when he pauses in his rhythm, inclining his head.]

[Dion finds himself fairly regularly in the Paladin MANTA office. He's always been most settled in motion and the MANTA office offers no end to tasks in need of performance. This latest posting has him concerned, though, as he reads over the explanation: missing ships and crews with no trace around an island of which little is known. There was little and less information to go on and people in need of rescue, but in this strange new place, Dion isn't foolish enough to go it alone.

It's then he notices the woman near him, reading the same posting with what he hopes is concern mirroring his own.]

Passing strange, is it not? Are you of a mind to investigate?

[ neve is, quite honestly, still getting to know the layout of the people and the city areas. what she can find, who she can ply for information. for her, it's all about the connections and this board might bring her both connections and something to do.

she takes note of the other person also examining the board, though she doesn't immediately address them until they address her first. ]

It's interesting. Exactly the sort of thing I'd be looking into were I at home.

[ it's giving her some ideas, certainly. wouldn't want to go it alone, but she's got thoughts about whether or not to try. ]

[While Dion doesn't find himself particularly beholden to these Paladins, when he reads the description of this monastery where the dead were laid to rest had gone silent, he can't help but feel concerned. No matter who they were in life, they deserve the peace of an end.

And though they may have called him Bold, he doesn't fully trust his powers here, not yet, not with how strange his connection to Bahamut feels, and thus he's seeking a partner when he sees the woman beside him, also eying the bounty board.]

Greetings. Are you of a mind to work with a partner? If so, the monastery ought take priority, if you would join me?

[ What is she even doing here? That's a question Betsy's asking herself and one she doesn't quite have an answer to. Perhaps she's just here to try to get a feel for the differences between the two armada and what they do. Or perhaps it's even more abstract and pathetic than that: intel gathering is what she's used to--something to default to.

While the sudden voice doesn't particularly surprise her his question does. ]

Hm, you'd partner with someone you don't even have a name for?

[ Not that she's opposed to the idea of going along with this. Intel is what she's interested in and he's offering quite a lot of exposure. Still, it's curious for someone to so readily ask. Oddly trusting. Or maybe she's just disturbingly jaded. ]

[Lyney peruses bookstores like this one on occasion, though usually it's less for himself and more to see if he can find a new detective novel for Heizou; the detective has a proclivity for a good mystery, and while the books here are nothing like the famed detective novels of the Court of Fontaine he's found some interesting ones. He has a few books tucked into his arm and is just browsing the titles for another when he hears someone calling out to him. Looking over, the magician blinks a couple times before offering a friendly smile.]

But of course! If there's one thing I've learned since coming here, it's that there's no shortage of unique books.

Now, what sort of book are you looking for? Any particular genre, or shall I guess your type?

Full glad am I to hear it.

[He moves golden eyes over the shelves before him, his shoulders twitching slightly in a shrug.]

It's been several years since I've had occasion to read for pleasure, I fear. I've no idea where to start. It is a marvel that so many books are available. Such is the miracle of "printing", I believe.

Is that so? Well, then we should remedy this problem, shouldn’t we?

[Lyney directs the man’s attention to the books before him with something of a flourish to his movements.]

As you can see, I’ve been browsing the mystery section currently, if you wouldn’t mind perusing works of fiction.

[Spring has sprung in Escordvi and Eltrut is in full bloom. It leaves the outskirts of the city lush and colourful. Joshua can hardly skip out on a walk.

When he comes across Dion, clad in his armour and with his spear, Joshua feels the same old ache and joy at seeing him. He strolls up quietly, his hands carelessly clasped behind back.]

Please, do not stop on my part. I am but an observer.

[Don't mind as he admires Dion for a while?]

[He smiles when he noted the one who has joined him.]

Joshua, it is good to see you, my friend.

[He smirks, tilting his head to the side as he flourishes his lance before resting the base on the ground.]

Dreaming of soaring with the Dragoons, Phoenix, or simply wishing to see how it is done?

[Joshua chuckles softly and moves to a big rock to sit on to watch.]

Simply curious to see how it's done. I doubt I could handle a weapon as unwieldy as a spear but you make it look like child's play.

[It's no secret that Joshua tends to favour his magic over anything else. He can handle his long sword easily enough, but he is not a trained soldier like Dion and Clive.]

A Clearing Outside Shellton

[Aerith didn't mean to stare but when she came across the dragoon practicing his spearmanship she couldn't help but stop and observe. He looked very capable indeed. Aerith had merely been out gathering flowers when she'd walked into his little clearing. She had a basket half-full of her cheerful findings and no weapon currently in sight.

She pointed at herself in response to his question and then shook her head.]

Just observing. Sorry if I interrupted your flow. It's quite amazing to watch.

I am quite difficult to distract, my lady, pay it no mind.

[He does stop, though, resting the butt of his lance on the ground beside him, he leans on the haft.]

What is it you have there?

[ kit is trying to get used to the people here, but he hasn't quite managed... that's why, when the person next to him addresses him, he looks like he nearly jumps out of his shoes with surprise.

meeting the stranger's gaze with wide eyes, kit's first instinct is to panic. he opens his mouth, closes his mouth, turns his gaze to the bookshelf. umm. ummmm... he doesn't know any of these titles, so the best he can offer is: ]

W-what about a pirate book...?

[ they're trapped in this place that's filled with so much ocean and seemingly many pirates—even kit has been accused of being one thus far. if they're going to be staying in this place, it seems like a safer choice for what to suggest. ]

[Similarly, Dion is trying to get used to how many non-humans there are here. In his own world, beastmen were merely that, barely more than beasts, let alone proprietors of establishments or avid readers.

But that only means he assumes Kitsunami here is a resident of Escordvi rather than a fellow riftfarer. He'll feel very badly once he realizes the error.]

A simple and straightforward suggestion. Fiction, or...?

[It was by chance that Aranea passed through while Dion was out there training. She was actually on her way out to the forests beyond to fulfill a few simple jobs, some of which included hunting. But seeing the younger man with the polearm had caught her eye as she doesn't see many spear users around. Her own is hidden in that subspace as usual so it's not so obvious, but she's also clad in her own black armor (without the helmet for now).

So there's just a hum and a wry smile in return to his greeting.]

Wasn't really planning on it, but been a while since I've seen someone use a spear.

[He turns, planting the haft of his lance at his foot as he pauses in his routine. The woman before him was lithe, agile and graceful in a way that suggested some familiarity with a similar weapon, further suggested by the strength in her shoulders even at ease.]

Indeed. It is a weapon that demands control and commands respect. You are familiar, I take it?

[Faulkner blinks and looks over, putting on a friendly smile.]

Well... that's an awfully broad question. What kind of thing you lookin' for? Any idea?

[The book he was in the midst of flipping through appears to have drawings of the Leviathans on the page he stopped at. But he's not sure if the stranger wants something more entertaining than information about the islands.]

[small>If the light in Dion's eyes as he notes what Faulkner is holding is any indication, he certainly wouldn't mind a book about the world in which he's found himself.

That being said, he shakes his head.]

Histories of this land may be a suitable place to begin, but otherwise no. I've no idea.

Wildcard: Medicine Herb Gathering

[ Cloud's still recovering, sort of. His back and arm no longer have any crystal on them, but his arm is still in a sling. Yet Cloud is still meandering around on this mountainside. Looking for some of the herbs that are supposed to be out here.

Now he can still use his sword with his left arm. And there's a satchel to collect herbs.

However, Cloud's come across a bit of a problem. The mountain path he has been on... It's gone. Ended. There's only one way to go and that's. Up?

With one arm. Cloud swears under his breath. ]

[Dion was more than happy to assist with gathering herbs once he'd heard they were in such short supply, and his natural abilities as well as Bahamut's wings gave him an advantage in the rocky terrain.

His satchel was slowly filling as he found some of the herbs on the list provided, but he came to a stop when he saw the man around the bend, injured by the look of him.

Dion's course took him over the ridge cliff face as well.]

[Mid had only briefly seen Dion before he had left, but now it seemed as if he were back! So hey, this was perfect to harasssay hello :) as she catches him before he goes off to do whatever a Bahamut Dominant does in his free time.]

Oi! Princely one! Yeah, you! [He'll probably know her voice, so when she finally catches his attention, her smile is wide and her eyes are sparkling. Ha ha you're in danger. Yes, she knows his name, but...] You wanna catch some shrimp an' make sure they ain't eatin' anything bad for 'em? You'll get fed for yer troubles if you do!

[She's already holding out a net to him. You're not getting away, even if her shoes are next to her and feet are submerged in the water itself. She will chase you down, that's a threat.]

[That's the secret, Mid. Dominants of Bahamut don't have free time, though this one is starting to work on making his own.

He does recognize the voice as he makes his way down to the beach. Honestly, it's only because he's rarely had the occasion to visit one rather than the bounty. He hadn't visited the Corsair MANTA office to even know it was a thing.

His eyebrows raise when he sees her, though, and he smiles slightly. The others hadn't mentioned her being here as well, though he shouldn't be surprised.]

Midadol. [He raises a hand in greeting as he steps forward, removing his gauntlets before taking the net she offers.]

It seems a fine way to spend an afternoon, and in good company as well.

[Not that he knows the first thing about shrimping. Or fishing.]

The clearing

[ Hawks just likes to perch places, the fact he's content enough to watch this dragoon do his warm up exercises, admiring his abilities with a polearm, he's not exactly hiding. He's not surprised when he's noticed.

He hums a little bit as he considers the offer. He hasn't really been able to keep on top of things has he? ]

I could stand to sharpen my skills, if you don't mind the fact that I don't use the same weapon. [ Could he manage a polearm? Probably to some effect, especially now that he's seen Dion's technique, he could probably do a semi-moderate imitation of it, but it's not something he's trained with very extensively. Knives and swords are more his thing. ]

[He smiles slightly at the recognition and rolls his shoulder in a shrug as he moves his lance to rest against his pauldron.]

I have trained many soldier and with many more. What is your weapon of choice?
