[While there are many things to see and do throughout the wide world of Escordvi, Dion has started small and has started by taking time for leisure, something he rarely had time for in Valisthea, and so he was browsing shelves, surprisingly vast ones, in a bookshop off the main market. Mostly, the tall blond is keeping himself to the non-fiction section, amazed at the sheer number of titles spanning the shelves. It would seem printing was a thing here, as the typewriter which initiated him suggested, and he's rarely seen so many books collected in one place.

So much knowledge is collected here he hardly knows where to begin, and so he might turn to a fellow browser, leaning slightly so as to keep his voice low.]

Begging your pardon, of course, could you perchance suggest a title? I've no idea where to begin.

[He's received a word of warning from Jill regarding the potential potency of Bahamut, which only serves to further reinforce the caution Benedikta instilled in him, and so in an effort to assure he's prepared to aid those here in whatever capacity he is able, Dion has found a suitable clearing outside the port in order to acclimate to the way his Aether pools in this place.

The prince is clad in his mithril armor for no other reason than it serves the purpose of protection and doesn't force him to spend doubloons he'd rather keep for food, and sets about moving through warm-up drills first: simple polearm forms designed to get his muscles loose and to work out the stiffness from his joints he always experiences in association with the Crystal's curse that's slowly turning all Bearers and Dominants to stone.

He'll welcome the company, and is more than game to spar with anyone looking to hone their skills or keep themselves sharp. He'll offer an amicable smile when he pauses in his rhythm, inclining his head.]

[While she's usually not one to go out of her way for it, it's hard to not admit that she's a little intrigued. Especially since coming here where she doesn't have her usual troops to help keep in shape. So her grin remains as she walks over to him.]

Think I can take some time out for a few rounds. Would do for a nice warmup, anyway.

Any rules?

Only the obvious. We mean not to harm one another. A friendly bout, once lancer to another.

[He moves to a formal stance, offering her something of a salute.]

I am Dion of House Lesage, by the way, if you would know your opponent.

Noble, huh? Figured you might.

[A slight arch of the brow before she grins.]

Aranea Highwind. Don't really have any fancy titles anymore, so hope you don't mind.

Why would I mind? I have few remaining myself, and none with any influence here.

[He smirks in response, adjusting his grip on his own lance.]

And I have found they often have little bearing on ability. Shall we?

Like your way of thinking.

[And with that she just idly twirls her spear in her hand...

Before she's suddenly kicking off for a swift lunge forward, covering the distance in a single leap with her spear aimed right at Dion.]

[Aether swirls around him as he leaps backward, pivoting in mid-air to land on the far side of the clearing, evading her jump and then reversing course to charge ahead as she lance, lance leading in a forward thrust feint before shifting his grip into an upward arch designed to break her guard.]

[The feint almost catches her off guard, and it's only thanks to her skill and experience that she's able to bring up her spear just in time to deflect it, the tip barely missing her. Yet she smirks—]

Not bad.

[—before swinging the back of her spear upward towards Dion while pivoting on her heel for a kick.]

[He reverses his grip, momentarily released one hand on his lance's haft to swing wide, a swipe not designed to deflect her weapon or her foot, but to allow him to pivot in place, grinning all the while, taking hold once away, mid-rotation to bring his own lance around, aiming to bring himself about and leap momentarily into the air about ten feet and bring the lance down hard, again designed to break her guard and send her on the defensive.

Let's see if that was only "not bad".]

[Oh, that is indeed, "not bad."

However...

Will Dion be prepared when Aranea watches him before she smirks and suddenly shoots up into the air to meet him halfway, her own spear spinning before rising up to clash against his.]

[Prepared? Not precisely, but the prince is nothing if not adaptable. Their lances ring as they clash, and the two dragoons hover there for a moment before gravity demands its absolute dominion once more. She may sense the air move, stirred by drawn Aether, as he propels himself in an elusive leap, backflipping away, landing hard on one knee, using his halberd as support.

But he's smirking.]

Impressive. You are well-trained. [And, after rising.] In Dragoon arts.

[She feels that shift in the air, and she can guess it must be some kind of magic which is a bit intriguing. She could actually stay up longer, but she won't reveal that card yet. Instead she follows him down to land lightly on her boots with a smirk.]

I've heard that term used for my style before, and I see you have it where you're from, too. Not as common where I'm from.
