Pokemon Training
[Even though this is a new world with not a lot of Pokemon in it, Kieran still wants to make sure his Pokemon are on their A-game, and that includes training. While he isn’t training to the same extreme levels as he used to back when he was the Blueberry League Champion, he still wants to keep his Pokemon in fighting form, especially since this world has shown it’s got its fair share of challenges already.]
[So whether it’s on Hero’s Rest or just an open area on Eltrut or Nogard, Kieran can sometimes be found with his Pokemon in tow, going through different battle drills, exercises, and mock fights to test their skills.]
Alright, Politoed and Dragonite’re up next! You know what to do!
[He’s a lot more focused when he’s undergoing these drills, and speaks much more confidently as he directs his Pokemon through the drills. He might also not notice anyone approaching, so you may need to make your presence known before he acknowledges you.]
Eltrut Snap!
[Taking photos seemed like an easy task, and he knows Mr. Kaveh is a friendly sort, so of course Kieran wants to help! However, after being given the bulky camera box, he can be found looking it over like it’s some kind of super-computer or something.]
Wait… how’s this supposed to work again..?
[He’s looking over the camera very carefully… but then he presses a button and snaps a photo right in his face. He yelps, before rubbing his eyes.]
Geez… And I thought the Rotom phones were hard to use…
Perfect Pastures
[Simple, honest work like this is right up Kieran’s alley; coming from a small village where farming is quite prevalent means Kieran’s quire adept at taking direction and helping out where he can. While he’s not exactly a carpenter, his rudimentary woodworking skills mean he’s pretty familiar with working with wood and with building things, so he can be quite reliably assist with the building of fences for the animals. And once the]
[However, once it’s time to actually bring the animals to the enclosures? That’s when Kieran becomes utterly distracted. He stares at the cows and chickens and pigs, staring at them wide-eyed like it’s his first time seeing them. Which… it actually is, funnily enough.]
These’re the animals that’re bein’ brought in? Wowzers… They all look so weird.
[He’s absolutely fascinated by them, especially when he gets the opportunity to pat one of the cows.]
You’re called a cow? Heheh, you look like a funny-lookin’ Miltank!
The Things We Do For Cheese
[The lure of a legendary treasure lost somewhere in the mountains is something that draws Kieran’s curiosity big-time, and is what eventually draws him to the quest. However, while he’s quite familiar with scaling up Oni Mountain in the middle of the night back home, climbing up the foggy cliffs of Nogard’s mountains is a bit different, and is what causes him to frown.]
You gotta watch yer step, the path’s kinda narrow here.
[While they make their way up, though, Kieran can’t help but let his curiosity wander.]
So… what kinda treasure do ya think’s up here?

Perfect Pastures
[Nico walks over to Kieran, and the cow makes a small noise of distress when it senses his death aura, so Nico steps back to let Kieran keep petting it.]
I'm useless for this. They all run away from me.
no subject
[Kieran blinks at Nico, confusion on his face. But then the cow seems to be distressed, and Kieran has to pet the cow to help it calm down.]
Woah, easy..! Huh... guess you were right about that, huh..?
[He remembers Nico telling him about his whole "death aura" thing, and that makes Kieran a bit upset. He hums a bit in thought.]
Well, what if you tried approachin' 'er slowly? Maybe if she got used to ya, it could help?
no subject
[Nico shrugs.]
No reason to lie.
[Nico shakes his head.]
Unless she's pure black, it's not likely any animal will get used to me. Especially herbivores. Herbivores fight like hell when they even think a threat is nearby. Carnivores will leave you alone if they're not hungry.
no subject
[Aw, well shucks. That sounds pretty sad. Kieran gently pats the cow's side, which seems to have settled somewhat.]
Wow... I mean, I guess some Pokemon act the same way. But most'll come 'round if you manage to befriend them. I thought animals would be the same, but...
no subject
Percy is... complicated. I guess we're friends. We're from the same world, and he's a demigod like me. His father is Poseidon, god of the sea. And he can talk to sea creatures.
[Nico looks the cow, then back at Kieran with a shrug.]
Dunno. Animals rely on instincts a lot. Guess Pokémon are more sentient. Or sapient? I always get the two mixed up.

Sounds good!
the things we do for cheese
Admittedly, mountain climbing is a little rougher now for her than it was in her youth - what with her metal leg. Still, she's never one to give up, so while she may need to take a break more often than she'd like, she's in a good mood nonetheless. ]
Who knows? Isn't it so great that they didn't give us any details? That means the sky's the limit! If YOU were hiding treasure, what would it be?
no subject
Well, I guess yer right! As for treasure... hmm, maybe a rare Pokemon? Or somethin' super rare an' valuable that could make ya stronger?
no subject
Something to make you stronger? You feeling like you're not strong enough?
no subject
[Kieran pauses a bit, and a thoughtful expression crosses his face. He keeps walking, but he turns his gaze away from Della for a moment.]
Well, before comin' here, I used to be real shy, an' didn't feel comfortable talkin' to anyone. The only thing I felt I was any good at was Pokemon battlin', but even then others would beat me easy. Back then, all I wanted to do was get strong enough for others to be able to rely on me, rather'n me relyin' on others so much.
no subject
... Nothing wrong with that! I think deep down, we all want to feel useful to somebody. I felt that way when I finally returned home to my family... I was so behind on everything that for a little bit, I almost felt like they didn't need me around.

eltrut snap!
at least, until a bright flash of light off to the side pulls kit's attention over.
a... human? who seems to be struggling with some sort of old school camera. kit looks over... looks away... looks over... looks away... takes a deep breath...
and finally approaches! ]
Um... Are you having trouble?
no subject
[Oh, right, he's being asked a question.]
Uh... a little. This camera's a little different from what I've used before, so...
[He holds it up for the not!Fennekin to look at.]
no subject
It looks... old.
[ pause. is that okay to say? ]
S-sorry, what I mean is... I didn't expect the technology here to be so... um, like this.
[ he can't think of a more polite way to say old, but this is one of his first opportunities to see something a little more complex in this place. ]
no subject
No, it's alright! I uh... honestly, I kinda agree with ya. I mean, my grandpa's got an old camera back home, but it's a lot newer than this one here.
[So it's okay, the camera is indeed old looking.]
It's a lot different from what I'm used to, too. Back home everyone's got computers an' Rotom phones an' Pokedex apps an' other stuff, but here it's like... somethin' out of some old sci-fi fantasy comic, y'know?
no subject
so instead of commenting on all that, kit just nods fervently when the boy looks at him all expectantly. his own gaze wanders off to the side, trying to gather up his words as his eyes flicker to the camera. when he does? they come out hesitantly, with slight pauses as if he's trying to figure out how to say this without offending the other. ]
... Can I see it? I'd like to... see how it works.
[ you know, open him up. ]

Pokemon Training
They are attracted to a strong individual and can choose to stay with them....he remembered their talk, but it's hard to shake what he knows so easily. All of his experience is what keeps him ahead afterall. As long as problems aren't being caused, there's no need to act. His brows furrows. A tired phrase at this point.]
no subject
[All while the training is going on, Kieran's demeanour changes. Rather than the somewhat shy and friendly face he usually is, when undergoing his drills he's much more confident, giving directions with all the conviction and anticipation of a seasoned veteran. While he may not have the same single-minded drill sergeant mentality from his Champion days, he still retains that competitive edge that comes with the thrill of a good battle. When the drills are gone through, Kieran will call over Politoed and Dragonite, giving them both some well-earned pats on the head and snout for their efforts.]
Good job, you two! You did great. Okay, Hydrapple an' Incineroar, y'all up for some trainin'?
[Hydrapple looks eager to battle and lets out a trill of excitement, while his most recent acquire, his Incineroar... well, it actually looks a little huffy, frowning up at the drizzling rain. Usually the fire cat is all for battling, but the rain always put a damper on a Fire-type's mood...]
[Meanwhile, Furret is nearby, and while he doesn't look like he's taking part in the battle, his ears do eventually perk up a bit and glance up over at the hill. His long neck sticks up then as he catches sight of Shadow. Hey! He remembers you! Why are you all the way over there??]
no subject
He crosses his arms, watching as Dragonite and Politoad get called back. They summon another set of two. One he is already familiar with, the other...like a large fire cat. That one, seems built for close combat. They would be more intimidating if they didn't look like a sad wet cat in the rain. There seems to be a balance of their pokemon choices though. Hm. Time passes without him realizing how long it's been, till it's already too late.
His eyes lock onto Kieran's Furret. He sees them like they had spotted him. With a huff, he takes that as a sign that he should leave. His back turns to them as he starts to walk off.]
no subject
Aw, c'mon, the rain'll let up soon, you know that. Besides, you gotta know how to fight in rain, too...
[Furret, meanwhile, sees Shadow leaving and lets out a chittering call. Hey, wait! Don't go! The call draws Kieran's attention, and he looks over to Furret... then up to where Furret is looking.]
Oh! Mr. Shadow, issat you??
no subject
I was just on my way. [He calls out without turning back. He was only meant to pass on through. He tries to keep walking, but now there was suddenly a Furret in his way. Fast.] I have no business with you.

[ surge looks to her shorter companion, a blue fennel fox who has her shellphone to guide them to the suggested meet-up spot. she's already skeptical while looking around for a certain someone, and if she's been duped then she knows the next time she sees him that ... well, good things won't be happening!
it's with a bored expression that she stuffs her hands in her pockets, searching for kieran through the various camera flashes that light up. ]
Hey! Stop doing that!
[ it's not an event she's familiar with, but when another flash flickers in her eyes, there goes surge storming off to take care of the problem. ]
[2/2] sorry im crying
[ kit's voice doesn't sound sure, but he seems to insist that he is. regardless, even if they weren't in the right place, kit's always happy to be by her side when they get the chance. unfortunately, they're not here for kit and surge themselves. the two of them are waiting for someone, and surge is clearly not enjoying the camera flashes going down not far away. ]
Surge, w-we're not going to be here for long. Maybe we should... um, a few more minutes?
[ he touches her arm to try and stop her, ignoring the burn that runs through his fingers. he's all for you beating up people interrupting the peace of the park, but like, maybe give it another 5 minutes first. others might get the wrong idea like she's not a hero if she does that. ]
This is going to be a disaster and I am HERE FOR IT LMAO
Thanks, Dragonite. I owe ya one!
[His Dragonite rumbles in response, nodding happily. Before Kieran can recall the Pokemon, a familiar blue Fennekin catches his eye.]
Huh? Oh, hi Kitsunami!
u hear that? we're counting on u surge
... kieran. but it's not kieran he's so focused on. he's glancing rapidly between kieran and dragonite, hesitating for a moment as his eyes linger on the creature for a long moment before he answers the greeting. ]
Um... Hi.
[ turns back to look at surge is she seeing this. ]
guys I'm trying to be a hero...
surge stares, squinting as one hand comes to her head to scratch behind her ears. ]
Okay, I think I've missed somethin'.
[ well, dragonite isn't hard to miss, but there's still something going on here with the way kitsunami gives her that look. ]
I know I said show us around, but I sure as hell know you're not ridin' on our backs. This the norm here?
[ animal adjacent people can't move around being looked upon as spectacles for people to take pictures of because they can walk themselves? ]
