Welcome to the Test Drive Meme for [community profile] escordvi! Anyone can participate in the test drive, regardless of invite eligibility. Just keep in mind that only those who have had their invitations approved by the mods can actually reserve on December 25th and apply on January 1st. Our EMP/ATP can be found here.

For your toplevel, please include the following: Character Name | Canon | Armada Choice | TDM (IF TDMING). Current players can use the same header, just without the "TDM" label. We do require those who are TDMin'g to include the label so other players can distinguish between others.

For everyone's convenience, TDM threads can be carried over in game if you wish! If you are still unsure which armada to place your character, you can play it a bit loose and vague in the TDM and make retroactive changes if you carry over the threads. The log itself is set to cover starting from December 13 until the end of the month. Characters will appear at random intervals during this time rather than all at once, so players have some more flexibility on how much more adjusted they are for someone else.

Players are free to use listings from the MANTA Board for additional prompts.

If you have any question about the TDM, comment here. If you have questions about the game in general, please comment to the Game Info.

HUNTING COMPETITION

This catchall log is for the Hunting Competition special quest listed on the November 2025 MANTA Board. Players are free to use the log for non-quest purposes, but only threads related to the Hunting Competition are worth 12 points. If you have any questions, comment here. If you wish to share cool creatures or finds, comment here. For additional plotting, refer to the CR Workship.

To help prepare islands in colder climates for winter, a hunting competition will be held to help increase the supply of meat and valuable materials that can be sold or donated for use. It's also a great way to bolster spirits and show off one's fighting prowess!

Here are some rules to be followed:
» Do not overhunt. Because the locations are all islands, resources will naturally be limited, and disrupting the ecosystem too much will only harm everyone in the long run. Of course there will be those who only listen to their greed, so anyone is free to stop those they see overhunting or poaching.

» Rare creatures are off limits. A subset of the first rule, and the same risks are present. There are some exceptions, but all hunters should read the guidelines given at the start of the hunt.

» No illegal smuggling of creatures. While some creatures may be tempting to keep or tame, they are not to be captured. Rescues can be performed but the animals are wild and best left alone after all the stress. .

» Avoid nests and young. Exceptions are harvesting common eggs, but even then must not empty an entire nest unless the species is marked as overpopulated and needs to be culled for the health of the habitat.

The following information and characteristics can be generally applied to all species types within the environments, but players are free to come up with more or different qualities to suit their needs or they think is cool. Players are also free to come up with new islands and make other discoveries such as artifacts, relics, or even ruins that could be used in future plots or tie in to current storylines. Although not specifically listed, elemental golems and sprites of each region do exist and can offer elemental minerals, cores, and other resources.

Not specific to the hunting competition, but current MANTA Board entries can be included in the log. Some good candidates are Bread Curse Continues with the mushrooms, Acorns for the Web-Wardens where the Acorn Spiders could be found in many wooded areas, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, A Sheep in Sheep's Clothing, Shrimply the Best, Suspect Fowl Play.

Non-hunters can assist hunters or tag along or be in the area to gather and harvest other resources found in the area.

Grasslands. An environment that is usually wide with sparse trees and mostly vegetation, like fields or plains. Creatures that live in these environments will often have these kinds of qualities: keen eyesight, high agility, earth elemental attacks, etc. Most creatures in this environment are more passive and live in herds which can be safely hunted for their meat and resources. Many plant types of creatures are found here, such as vegetable rabbits and the dangerous jacaranda. A great place to gather other resources such as wheat, flowers, special grasses, etc.

Woodlands. Forests, woods, jungles—any type of environment that has large amounts of trees. The creatures here are more likely to hide and will need special traps and bait to lure them out. Many also inhabit the trees which can make them more difficult to catch as well as dangerous for ambushes, particularly birds of prey or snakes. These rabbits may look harmless, but they hunt small mammals like hawks. Some islands may have living trees to be watchful for, but their bark and fruits can be valuable if harvested safely. These antelope know the best spots.

Desert. With extreme heat, desert areas have little vegetation and water, filled mostly with sandy and/or rocky terrain. Any creatures hunted here are more for their hides, scales, bones, or minerals rather than meat, but there are some that could make for good jerky. Because of the harsh environment, most creatures here are hostile and dangerous. Beware the various snake dragons and sand sharks.

Tundra. Land covered in ice and snow, the frigid temperatures have hardened its creatures to have thick hides and thicker, high quality meat. There are some deer whose antlers are highly prized. The predators, however, are even stronger and more dangerous, camouflaging well with the snow or freeze with their breath. Although vegetation is scarce, there are valuable and sought after berries and other resources that can be harvested. Be careful during blizzards.

Mountains. From tall peaks to rocky cliffs (see UNDERGROUND for cave environments). Creatures that live in these habitats are quite hardy and know how to climb in ways that seem impossible. Even these moose are like mountain goats. They can also survive steep falls, but will knock their enemies to fall to their doom. These areas can either be rocky or have snow and trees around them. Many aerial creatures can be found here such as harpies, gryphons, winged lions, and large birds of prey. Watch out for avalanches and rock slides.

Underground & Caves. These environments can be found in any of the other environments. There will rarely be any light sources, so be sure to bring torches! Most creatures here will more likely be small mammals, reptiles, insects, and rocky golem types who are adept at traveling with no light. This does mean blinding them can be an advantage. But there are larger creatures like giant bats and cave critters that camouflage themselves on the walls to ambush. Don't get lost in the myriad of tunnels, and if mining minerals, be careful not to cause a cave-in.

Water. Anything that is predominantly water, from rivers to lakes to oceans and even swamps. Many will be familiar with the type of creatures that inhabit these environments, but be careful all the same of those that are more than happy to drag unsuspecting hunters down to a watery grave.

Later in the month, while the hunting competition is well underway and large stocks of meat, materials, and other goods are starting to come in, a small disturbance starts to take place near the ports of Eltrut before it starts spreading further into town. Small baby pearl crabs that barely fit in the palm of one's hand are found skittering about in all sorts of places. From businesses to residences to even farms, these little critters are wandering about causing all sorts of mischief and destruction. They are also quite hardy, rolling up into their shells like a ball and rolling out of harm's way and able to withstand even the strongest stomp or throw.

No one knows where they came from, but the truth is they are from the large pearl that the seamstress Dame Cordellia Stitchbane had been looking for. Turns out that "pearl" was an egg! Many are trying to collect the baby pearl crabs either to rescue, keep, or to kill and sell. Regardless of the motives, there are over a hundred of these crabs and they need to be dealt with.

At the end of the month, all three major leviathans will move in close to the island Nogard has settled on and a massive feast will be held. Hunters and other participants can donate what they've gathered throughout the month, and cooks can show off their skills and share unique meals. Just be careful of the bread as there could be "infected" bread that will inflict the "bread curse" on those who consume it. Fortunately, there are remedies available, but it will surely cause some panic regardless. Otherwise, it's a big potluck party with a lot of alcohol that will be filled with boasts, tales of heroic feats, and songs and words of honor for those who lost their lives trying to hunt the big game.

However, as the festivities are coming to a close, there are loud shouts and cries for help at Eltrut's port as a giant crab suddenly emerges from the water, ships knocked away and some flung onto shore. Its entire body shimmers in the light, and it's quickly realized that its entire exterior is made out of pearl, the carapace tougher than thick steel. Hunters and other fighters in the area quickly rally to try and fend off the sudden appearance, but it is a massive crab that towers several stories high.

To make matters worse, those little pearl crabs from before will start gathering, pinching their little claws at everyone as if to try and help the larger one. The sight of the little crabs will also either calm or send the giant one into a frenzy depending on how they are treated. Perhaps if enough of the baby crabs are given back unharmed, the giant crab will return to the ocean depths. Or hunters might think that pearly material and perhaps tasty meat is worth trying to kill. It's a very tough crab so even if attacked, it will take quite a lot to take it down.

The fate of the giant crab and the other pearl crabs will be determined by AC Submissions!

SPECIAL QUEST: KUDZU ISLAND

This mini event log is for Kudzu listed on the MARCH 2025 MANTA Board.

A strange large leaf as big as a wagon wheel drifts to Eltrut's shores with a barely legible message scrawled on it: hELp KUdZu

Beneath is a rough "map" that includes coordinates. Although it could be a trap and tensions are high, there is concern that a hostage may have been taken to this island or could lead to more clues for the investigations.

In response to the strange message that was shared through the MANTA Board, and despite the turmoil that was going on between the Armadas, efforts were made to organize expeditions to this strange island. The seas will be strangely rough the closer they get to it until large swathes of green plant float by. Following it, they will soon discover the water completely covered with it to the point that it's almost impossible to discern what is floating over and what is covering the shore…

Because what they see ahead is an island completely covered in vines, vines that extend all the way out to what should be a shore and then out to the water, the plant changing subtly to what they see in the water. This will make docking quite dangerous for a number of reasons, and if it already looks so bad from the outside, one can only wonder what lies within…

🥅 Dredging hydrilla. If ships aren't careful, they can either get tangled in the floating plants, hydrilla, or accidentally run aground or hit something hidden beneath the floating plants. Special care will need to be taken, and dredging up the plants will help clear a path…temporarily, at least.

Free ships. Although the plant is not sentient, it easily sticks and gets caught on rudders and parts of the ship. It even seems to start crawling up the hulls, the currents and wind pushing the plant upwards. This along with any hydrilla that may get loose from dredging will definitely require those handy with blades to cut ships loose before they get trapped further.

🦆 Rescue sea animals. Most sea creatures seem to have adapted beneath the water, but those caught on the surface may be tangled. Birds, especially, can be found struggling if not already perished.

🐟 Piranhas. Not only is the ocean water sludged up with floating plants but a school of wild, aggressive piranhas are also circling the island. Avoid them or kill them before they can take a chomp out of everything in sight.

🐇 Sea bunnies. Small, fluffy white creatures will eventually be noticed around the plants that are capable of consuming them quickly and by a lot. They will become vital in clearing away the hydrilla, but they need to be protected from natural predators like fish and birds. Dive underwater to try and gather more, just be careful not to get caught in the undergrowth.

🍤 Roasted eel. Rumour has it, there is a rare type of eel that can be found in the waters around the island. It’s said that these eels are incredibly delicious if they’re roasted over an open fire and eaten right away. Go get some eel and get roasting. Cook it right there on the beach or on your ships.

Once on shore, everyone will need to find some way to cut through the thick vines. While some may be tempted to use fire, not only are these vines seemingly more fire resistant, because how dense and interconnected they are, it could go out of control quickly if not careful. Thus cutting will be the primary method to get through.

Deep, deep within the island is a small village of various humans and animalfolk that has barely managed to keep the kudzu in control. Although most of the houses are partially overrun, they've come up with different ways to keep it at bay: special herbicide sprays, digging, controlled burns, and their best bet—goats. Although they don't know who sent the message, they are grateful for the help. They only warn for them to be careful not to be trapped and not to go too deep into the island. They seem to be withholding some information...but clearing out the island of the kudzu is more important.

🐐 Find stray goats. Some goats, their best kudzu killers, have strayed and are lost within the surrounding forest. There are still predators out there, so get these precious warriors back!

🍲 Harvesting kudzu. Turns out, there are some uses for this invasive plant. Although the villagers are sick of it, they can make decent dishes and ingredients for others. There seem to be notable health benefits and can be used for medicines as well. Find other uses and who knows, perhaps this island can turn into a valuable resource.

🪢 All tied up. Careful—one wrong step and one can get tangled up in the vines, perhaps even finding themselves hanging upside down from trees! There are even trapped villagers and others caught in the vines, so help them out!

🪲 Bug riders. One ship managed to bring special giant beetles that are capable of using their pincers to cut through the kudzu quickly (and even have a small snack in the process). These beetles are specialized to be ridden and have special gear equipped to them. Gentle creatures, they can be controlled well even by a novice.

🍃 Koroks. Hundred of little creatures using leaves as masks seem to live all over the island. They are incredibly playful despite being so shy. If anyone can seek out where these little ones are hiding, be it under rocks, in trees, in the sand or after solving some sort of ruined rock puzzle, the koroks will give little rewards. The koroks will give bits of metal, old gemstones, peanuts, dried grapes or other random bits and trinkets.

🪙 Buried treasure. With such an overgrown island, there is bound to be some buried treasure somewhere. Go digging in the ground while avoiding or hacking away the vines and massive leafy overgrowth and see what you can find. There are even strange stone pillars with strange squiggly, spiral carvings on them that sometimes glow… Weird.

🐨 Animal life. Along with the local plant life, the island is also home to a variety of small island mammals such as koala bears, bandicoots, kangaroos, wallabies and quokka. They tend to be fairly friendly in general but can get a bit clingy. Or punchy. Be careful.

The contents of this log can be carried over into the next month, so those who may not be able to participate fully this time can reuse prompts and setting material in their own threads later. Everyone is allowed to harvest the plants for their own needs or later markets. Animals cannot be taken.

Keep in mind the tension between Armadas is still around. Although the more neutral minded members are willing to work together, there will still be suspicion and some may even take advantage of the environment. For those who need a setup for their character to be taken or arrested, feel free to use the island's setting.

Escordvi—

An old world filled with older legends and myths, so old that no one knows what is real or not anymore. But there is one myth, one tale that some may say was just a dream… but it is the one they must now all live in.

Ancient beasts and their people waged wars and ravaged the once bountiful lands until the ground split and the waters rushed in, flooding and drowning all who once ruled the now barren surface. All civilizations were lost beneath the unending tides until the angry waters calmed and became still. Only a small handful of land, people, and creatures were saved, protected by mythical leviathans in hopes to one day revive the world. But no one cared for such lofty goals, content to only continue their survival. They would live on their leviathans with only a few deciding to settle on the numerous islands scattered throughout the world, and as time went by two armada factions developed.

The Paladins were originally created to help enforce some sense of order in a chaotic time. But as they grow more organized, their interests and purpose grew as well. Not only were they a source of order and enforcement, but they were also the frontrunners in scholarly and academic work, research and excavation of any old ruins that surface, charting and surveying all new islands for new resources, and protect and restore any new artifacts or other discoveries made. They grew in prominence, that security allowing those to flourish and create a rich city on their leviathan, the whale Elah.

The Corsairs developed in response by those who did not fit the mold. While known for the criminals and miscreants and thus often called "pirates," others who were independent minded would join to "temper" that ruthless notoriety. Adventurers, treasure hunters, mercenaries—they, too, are considered pirates. They pursue the freedom to adventure and stake claim to new horizons. While Corsairs may also delve into fields of "research," their motives are usually more selfish and have less regard to preservation. Their leviathan, Nogard the bone dragon, aids in their endeavors to avoid the Paladins, moving from place to place.

And so the people lived—until one day, someone or something found an ancient artifact that opened dimensional rifts to other worlds, forcibly bringing these outsiders to Escordvi to now live amongst its people. These rifts also brought in strange lands and stranger creatures, things that the native people find disruptive and wish to stop.

Of course, there are also those who wish to use this power for themselves.

Rumor has it that there is a special treasure map that could help guide them to the artifact, but the pieces have been scattered all over. Thus a new "hunt" is on to find that artifact, lost somewhere in the Endless Ocean.

Escordvi is a panfandom semi-private game that primarily uses invitations to join but with occasional public app cycles. It is a quest based exploration game with focus on finding and exploring new places and CR building. Despite the existence of factions, it is not a competitive factions game.
