eighth bolt ⚡ nega-sacabambapsis
Who: Cid and Hawks
Status: Closed
Where: out on the ocean
What: some extreme fishing as they go after the Nega-Sacabambapsis, much to Cid's dismay
Warnings: none
[Upon hearing about this "evil" Sacabambapsis, Cid was actually a bit disheartened to think that such a magnificent creature could even become darkened as such. He was also curious how large these fish really could be since he was more familiar with their smaller form. What if they were just misunderstood and could be taken care of instead!?
Okay, no, he wasn't that foolish, but the thought may or may not have crossed his mind.
Still, if it's a menace then it needs to be handled, and the glorious reputation of the Sacabambapsis must not be tarnished!
Utilizing the Hideaway crew's ship, the Enterprise II, he has picked up someone else who had decided on taking on the bounty, and he approaches them as the ship quickly cuts through the waves towards one location where the fish have been sighted.]
Hawks, was it? Before we reach our destination, we should firm up our plans.

Hard to say, but since he wants to eat, guess he has to get on with bounty hunting. ]
That's me! [ Hawks flashes Cid his media-worthy smile. ]
Uh, well, I'm not a duck, but I won't drown or anything, probably. How hard can catching a fish be?
no subject
How well can you fly with those wings? Able to perhaps swoop over if needed?
no subject
Flying is my speciality. I can handle that, but I'm not sure the fish is going to jump out of the water for us.
no subject
[He leans against the railing.]
Do you have a preference on whether we catch it alive or dead? Of course if we have no choice we will need to kill it, but I wanted to know your thoughts.
no subject
Well...I'm pretty indifferent, I guess? It didn't sound like it was evil but if it's causing a big problem I get it.
[ Hawks hums. ] I mean, I'm not exactly bloodthirsty, I'm fine doing the harder work to capture it alive.
no subject
All right, let's gauge how aggressive it is. Brought some large bait that we can try and use to see if it will take. Who knows, maybe we can just lure it away from the busier sea routes.
no subject
[ Yeah he eats birds, shut up, he knows it's hypocritical. It's just... ]
Especially if it's the kind of creature that knows what's going on.
no subject
[A wide grin as he does hope they can convince the large fish, but
the dicefate will be the one to answer.]Anything else I should know about your abilities?
[Might as well know what cards they have so they can adjust as needed. Since no perfect plans change and grow etc etc.]
no subject
My abilities? Hmmm. [ That's a fair question, and one that most people don't have to ask because well, at home Hawks is a celebrity. His quirk is fairly well known - while keeping some aspects hidden of course. ]
I'm fast enough to zip from end to end of this place multiple times a day. [ Ships are so slow. ]
I can sharpen my feathers to use as knives, and I can manipulate all of them at once, save the baby feathers on my bone structure. I can also lift things with my feathers. Each one can handle roughly 200 pounds. Give or take. If I think someone is going to possibly be heavier than that, I'll send more than one feather. I do a lot of rescues, you know, like pulling people out of collapsing buildings, that kind of thing.
no subject
You can lift things with your feathers? Individually?
no subject
[ He'll make his point though, a pair of feathers - sorry Cid, you're a strapping guy, this is not a slight - will zip out of his wings and hook into the shoulders of his shirt before he gives a little yank to pull him just off the ground.
Hopefully not enough to frighten him or anything. ]
no subject
Hah! Could use you around whenever we need to move things. Does it take a lot of energy to use?
no subject
I get that a lot. With bigger, bulkier items even if they're not that heavy, I just need to use more feathers. [ He shakes his head. ]
It's like breathing for me. I use them all day every day.

[ Hawks hums lightly. ] Yes, of course, I'm a professional hero. That's my job.
no subject
[A light grin.]
Does that mean there are professional "villains"?
no subject
Well, some villains would certainly say they're professionals at it, but they're not getting a salary from any legitimate means. We get small time trouble makers and big time villains, yeah.
[ He'll explain - he knows by now what he says isn't fully understood by people from other worlds. ]
I come from a world where nearly everyone has some kind of special ability or power, we call a quirk. It's a superhuman ability compared to the quirkless. It can literally be anything, and it usually manifests by the time kids are four or five. So in a world with that many powered individuals, we have rules as to how we can get along and some people don't agree with those rules.
Instead of doing something productive, they start hurting the people around them. I wish it was a lot less of a problem, to be honest. It would be nice if we didn't need heroes. There are upwards of eight thousand agencies in Japan alone. Agencies tend to have one or two heroes who head the agencies, and a number of sidekicks who work for them.
no subject
He's also not so surprised to hear that there would be those who are against it. Great power and responsibility and all that, and add to the human nature and vices, just a recipe for disaster.]
That certainly sounds more complicated than your average world where crimes are more about theft and murder.
[Which, you know, still not GREAT but adding those with superpowers in the mix would certainly make things more difficult and the magnitude of damage already increases.]
And you must be quite the professional with your skills.
no subject
[ There are pros and cons and quirks are ranked like anything else. ]
As a pro, I'm subject to the pro rankings. They're based on a metric between cases handled and public support, weighted heavier towards the caseload. Not where I would go, but I don't make the rules. I am ranked number two in Japan. My country. In speed, on a global scale with All Might's retirement, I'm probably the fastest.
no subject
Number two? That's quite impressive. Now I wonder if handling a large fish is beneath you.
[A wry grin as he leans against the railing.]
What would you say was your worst case?
no subject
Worst case huh... [ The case he's on now is pretty bad. It's going to be really bad, he knows that much, but he pivots from that one. ]
Probably when we had a tsunami hit three years ago. There were so many people hurt and injured and trapped...dead...it was terrible. We worked long hours for several days. [ He's not that old, he's only officially been in the game for five years. ] Natural disasters can cause the worst mass casualties. It's not a good day for us. We can't stop the weather.
no subject
Surprised there isn't someone who has a—"quirk" you said?—that could. But then what of this world? Still doing the same "job" or adapting differently?
[Surprisingly, there weren't so many natural disasters or large scale threats or attacks so far that he's been around...well, except that time when a certain harpy went on a rampage. But anything else has been incidental and small scale.]
no subject
[ Hard to say how far they can push the boundaries of quirks. ]
Still doing the same thing. I patrol around, drop in on people who need help, chase away poachers at the sanctuary. That kind of thing. I wouldn't know what to do otherwise. At home, all I do is work.
no subject
[He then hears a shout from one of his helmsman, announcing the sighting of their quarry, and after a return command he grins at Hawks.]
Now let's see if we can't save this fish.
[And should they look ahead, they will be able to see an ominous giant, black fin breaching the water before it sinks back down.]
no subject
Now might be a good time to admit I'm not a duck.
